People need to remember who and why invented survival tins. The RAF crews in WW2 had innacurate dry button compasses conceald in a button and wire saws in vollarsvfor cutting barracks lumber. Tobacco mtins were packed with adfitionsl add ons. All miniature to facilitate flying a Wellington Bomber and possibly bailing out. The reality? You want the best quality items And in the best size. min 2:48 isn't that a compressed towel? got that in my kits, too (very small, light, put it in water it gets big - great for washing yourself outdoors) have to say - it's not bad and could cover the worst of all emergencys... though, i wonder if the manual states to retrofit an emergency-map to the kit, otherwhise you gonna know where north is, but not where to go ;)

Bought 3 of these and love them. Sooo comfortable. We've mastered inflating them. Both hands squeeze like we're wrining out a large wet sponge then wait till its absorbed air again and continue. Did it in 5 minutes. Love, love, love. No backache.

Thanks for posting this Wally. Volume is a bit low. A torch you need to keep pressed, is practically useless. But I'd still take that kit over most of the hundreds of dollar ones available, because of the bivvy bag. Was this put together by a pensioner? The Kendal Mint Cake was the UK 'survival kit' in the 60s and a bivvy bag was added in the 70s. For our climate it's the most important item. Tip: tie some buttons in the corners so you can slit it open and make a tarp. That means tying the button on the same side of the bag.

I have finally found a way to get consistent results for no char flint and steel, ash lye. I have started to treat punk wood with ash lye and it will consistently take a spark from flint and steel uncharred.

Showed me right away, damn thing is too thin to split wood, knot or no knot. I will keep my own camp ax, don’t need that thing!

Coming from a US Marine, most of the guys hate these boots, but not me, I love them. Most of my friends say they’re ugly, heavy, and overly bulky, and while I’ll concede on the looks I far prefer a tough as bricks design over the popular lightweight boots like the reckonings, I’ve never seen rats wear out, replace the tread and you could wear these for a very long time, the stitching is incredible, they’re thick, I’ve put them through the ringer with almost no maintenance and they’ve held up phenomenally.

One of the most overrated knives out there. The edge on mine, kept chipping like crazy, no matter what edge angle or how much steel I removed, to get rid of the "burnt" steel.That means that the heat treatment is the worst Ive ever seen. All bevels were way off also, handle kept moving back and forth,sheath's leather is very low quality.
