Make that video, Sky-Guy! Would love to hear your expertise on marketing for your small business/reselling enterprise. Also THIS VIDEO IS EVERYTHING. One of the more underrated channels on all of TH-cam is the CATRP Crew. Thanks fellas!
I'm a part-timer and do this just to fund my own collection or get my hands on some really cool games. I am Level 1 but I'm mostly browsing through local classified apps like Marketplace or Kijiji (Canada). These apps are extremely competitive because people will try to snipe good deals. I want to start leveraging other means to source and the most obvious one is garage sales. How do you find garage sales. I can only ever find them on Facebook Marketplace which as I mentioned before is very competitive.
Great video. Thanks boys. Currently just bought-out my first store - a close friend who just retired. Warhammer, D&D, and Pathfinder products. I'm swimming in inventory now and am very excited about the future. Building connections have been a big thing for me this year. I always aim to be transparent and generous in purchases that could lead to connections in the future. Thanks for all the content!
I've always been blessed having pawn shops in my area that DON'T look up values on ebay and flat rate price their older games. Switch games are the only ones they price pretty high, but they used to be $10 flat rate just like PS4 and Xbox One games...anything older than PS4 and Xbox One is cheaper than $10 no matter what the title..cartridge games are ALWAYS $2 each. Well yea!
Great video and very informative. I do 1, 2, and 4 and recently hit the legendary "Level 6" - I can't talk about it though, there might be people watching.
Deffo would love too see that video sky guy with the power of social media 👍 Would say I’m currently at level 3 but have dabbled with 4 when doing Amazon FBA
When sourcing for my store, I had a lot of luck bulk buying from whatnot sellers. In addition to buying strategically, sometimes you can also ask to buy all of their unsold games at a discount at the end of the feed.
I am currently at level 2 and plan to stay there. I do this as a great side hustle while I pursue my main career, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Love your guys content, love learning the business, keep it up!
I would say I participate in level 1 and 4 the most. However, so many online auction houses have no clue how to ship items and it is getting frustrating receiving damaged items when the margins are already slimmer than garage sales.
Good advice. Lowball if you want to stay at level one and two for the rest of your career and you want those people you lowball to not only never contact you again but to tell all the other sellers or businesses around to never deal with you.
Because of my location I have done lvl 2 mostly. It's the easiest and I have become friends with the auctioneers. They have pointed out items that have not sold and said take what you want.
Currently at level 1 at a hobby level but would love to “buy out game stores and collections” to keep a few high end items and resell the rest to break even.
Shopgoodwill is very iffy when it comes to video games. most if not all their auctions go above market value. Plus you have overpriced shipping on top of the sale price. I'm just doing this as a part time side hustle but have learned so much from you guys. Like you said you get more buys if you pay up, I've started to offer 60% of market value for games/consoles. I'm ok with only making 10-20% profit. IU must say my area is tough to find games, older games that is since I'm in a part of the country where most people that moved here sold a lot of that before they moved.
By far the most helpful video for us video game resellers, thanks guys! btw ive always been a level 1 and i went straight to level 4, i really need to gain more exp points to level up to level 2 soo i can master my skills and upgrade to level 3. Need to save more coins along the way then level 5 . Here we come!!!
Currently sitting at level a level 3 but have dabbled in level 4. I mainly specialize in Video Games and Toys to life (Skylanders/Infinity/Amiibo) and have been a long time subscriber of the CATRP Crew! Always looking to learn more and your videos have helped a ton! Cheers!
Small small seller here, been using goodwill primarily for my stuff, started buying lots with things I wanted, 4 years ago. Finally decided to get rid of the collectibles in those lots that we didn't keep, took money from the profits and bought more from them. Fun to win what we win, and resell. I'm disabled, 8 kids 7 at home, only been selling like 6 months 50+ sales, 100% feedback on about 20 so far. Makes be feel good. Not tryna make it rich, just be cool to take my big ole family out to dinner once a month with the money lol
Yes make a video in my 40’s dabbled in Facebook for sourcing do a lot of local flea markets have a summer time client base would love to learn how to better market myself.
im just over 2 years in now, started with just Level 1, these last few months ive been doing 1, 2, 3 & 4, problem is im not good at Communicating, or feel like im not, so dont think i can form the kinda freindly bonds needed for getting "Contacts"
Right now I am at level 3 I have made a alot of connections over the 20 plus years as a reseller I don't see myself getting to level 5 I am very comfortable were I am now My inventory flow is good even though the winter months great video thanks
I have bought out some local collections. Nothing consistent but did get me to the point where I have cash available to buy big collections. I want to start going to more pawn shops and buying locally from them. I'd say I am between level 2 and 3. 5%
I have yet to get to the point to get to that point. Currently parting out a dsi not worth fixing and that would be the way to make the most on that dsi. I’m definitely between level 1 and 2
I'm sorta at level 2 and want to end this year at level 3. Right now I'm in the middle of relocating but the area I'm in is great for a ton of level 1 stuff. Thank yall for your informative videos. Hope to join the discord soon. Keep up the fantastic work yall.
I’m only at level 1 but since I live in Florida it makes it much easier to find items year round. Definitely keeping to level 1 for a while but would like to ge to level 3 as soon as possible to expand
Currently level 2 but have been to level 3 before. It's really all about time. Can easily work part time in the first two levels but level 3 requires more effort. Good videos guys!
This is spot on, I pretty much took the same route as you, and have hit all 5 levels of resell for several years now. And your right a reseller will only reach this through integrity and getting known as someone that pays well, in fact to build relationships it helps to be able to pay more than you would like too sometimes to get more relationships. My goal for 2023 would be to buy a major collection, and for me that would mean a massive record collection or store buyout :)
Just had my first 5k gross sales week and it is only Thursday. Thanks CATRP for inspiration! Is it worth making videos? my niche is 30% video games 50% car parts and 20% other.
I'm between 1 and 2. Started in April and can't wait to hit the 1 year mark. In 2023 I'd love to at least double up where I'm at, and get my feet into Amazon. Going to be a good year!
Another local place that is often overlooked: Antique stores/Antique Malls. There is a perception that everything in Antique stores has been looked up and priced at ebay prices. Not true. A good chunk of the people who sell at Antique stores are your "true" antique dealers: Glass Wear, Furniture, Decor, stuff from 1950 and older, so the "Newer" stuff often slips through at lower prices because the knowledge isn't there for them. I've been finding quite a few underpriced items lately that I know the sellers were not able to comp and just threw a price on. Plus a lot of times they will put together bags or boxes full of smalls for a cheap price because they don't want to do the work. I picked up a box of antique Milk Caps for $10 and have been selling them for $8-20 each. (slowly, they need to wait for the right buyer). Also things like Matchbooks, ephemera (old maps, postcards, etc,) usually sold in lots for cheap. Recently I bought a bag with about 10 old kids erasers marked at $2. Among them were some 60s Cereal premiums and Frito Lay premiums....I sold 4 of them for $25-50 each. Plus a lot of times booths will run 40-50% off sales to clear merchandise, which is a great time to cherry pick the good stuff for ebay.
I’m at 1 and 2 and dabbling in 3 just as a means of funding my own collection. Would like to camp out in level 3 more this year, just have to fight the urge to *immediately* blow all my profits on new games and save up for those bigger collections that come up
Late to the video, but oh well. I’ve definitely been sitting at Level 1 basically since I’ve started 10+ years ago. Which isn’t necessarily bad. I have 1 pawn shop in my town and it’s had mostly the same stuff since I’ve moved here 8 years ago. There was another one but they closed probably for the same reason. There some storage unit auctions but I wouldn’t know where to put all the stuff right now. I went to one out of curiosity and they seem pretty affordable, usually in the $150-$225 range, so it’s a possible in the future for sure. Anyways, I’d like to be at Level 3 by the end of the year. It’ll be work, but I think it’s doable. I know my main hang ups are consistency and organization, so if I keep working on those, it can make any of the levels easier to attain.
I’m at level 0 and by the end of the year I will want to be at Level 0. I don’t resell I’m just interested in your videos. Waiting for the next main channel episode
Thank you for sharing the tips and more importantly your faith in the videos. Question: Where did you find the shelving behind you in the video and what are the dimensions if you don't mind sharing that info as well. God Bless!
Sky is taller than I thought he was. Funny I went from 1 to 4, mostly because yard sale season ended. So many different little goodwill sellers for each area just looking through lots, etc. One lot I grabbed I knew the controller alone would pay for it so all the games were free even if they are not big huge sellers. Sometimes auctions will go decent, lately more competition has been driving up stuff though. This one guy recently must have sold off his whole collection in lots because they were some amazing games from each system and his feedback number was only average. The price would be bargin then last minute jump 200.
Have the number of garage sales in your city dropped significantly after covid? In my city they've dropped over 50-60% and have yet to pick-up. I also think people became a lot more used to & adept at selling things online which might have had an impact on garage sale numbers.
Out of interest, how do you record purchases when sourcing on eBay from private sellers for Amazon? Do you use the “request an invoice” option? I’d assume amazon wouldn’t accept that as proof of purchase if they ever requested the invoice for that item? And is that only used items? Thanks.
No, you really can’t get an official invoice from most sources, receipts will have to do for us and for most sellers. There is definitely risk to sell things that don’t have invoices anywhere, but that is why we sell on multiple platforms and stay diversified
For level 3, I just place "In search of" ads on every single swap and shop fb group in my hometown area and surrounding counties...that's how I have found TONS of stuff. I ask for pictures. Add up every single item on pricecharting lot calculator, and then divide by 3. The value after dividing by 3 is my top value i will offer. But I always ask THEM to spit out the first number because it could be significantly lower than my "divide by 3" number and I can get an even better deal and maximize more profit.
Yeah the majority of my biggest purchases ever were off Facebook. if it wasn’t for Facebook and Facebook market I would’ve found SOOO much less over the years.
To add to this. When I’m in the mood to add to my collection, I just send a message to every single person in my area selling video games if they have more video game stuff they’d like to sell, and list all the systems. I’ve found a ton of stuff where they list one item but have a ton more.
I would say I am at level 3 and does bidding online count as 4? I am only part time now but can't wait to go full time. I did it for a while but didn't have any back up money so all my capitol was being used for bills after it circled back.
Thx for the shout guys!! Master class on leveling up. Appreciate the info
