Air Canada's 777-200LRs Are BACK!

- Throughout 2020, Air Canada flew its fleet of 6 Boeing 777-200LRs to Victorville and Marana in the U.S. for storage, and after just over a year, some of these have flown back to Canada and re-entered service!
One visited Calgary on Christmas Day, and seeing as it was our first visit from an LR in 21 months or so, I think it’s worth a video. Enjoy this frigid 777 action!

Beast! The plane, not you, Alex. :) Love both of AC's 777's, the -300ER and the -200LR. And can we all agree that Alex is not a fair-weather planespotter? Anyone who braves those winds and temps, on Christmas Day, to get some footage of a rare bird, has to made of pretty stern stuff. Two thumbs up from YLW.
Actually, if you have met Alex, he IS a beast...or rather, more of a gentle giant. Great guy to talk to, and one that really does an amazing job of promoting everything in Commercial aviation in Canada! Humbled to know him.
@@rikkus67 Thanks for the insight. I haven't had the pleasure, but looking forward to that one day. Happy new year from YLW.
Excuse me Sir/Madam
Are you saved?
If you died tonight are you going to heaven?
Jesus loves you

The toothpaste livery is literally perfect for cold snowy winter days! My first time in Canada (back in winter 2005 when I was 7 y/o) I remember seeing all the AC aircraft in Montreal in their unique toothpaste livery, along with the clear blue skies and the snow everywhere (coming from France I had never seen so much snow)! Plus I had a toy set of AC A340s with a bunch of ground vehicles/equipment to play with at that time lol. So yeah, this livery holds a special place in my heart with the earliest memories of Canada I have, and to see the 777L coming back on such a cold day, along with a 788 in old livery taxiing by it just brought these memories back!
Boeing 777-200ER, LR are back while great as Airbus A350-900
Great video, as always. When I first began flying as a 777 passenger, the seats were 3-3-3, and it was extraordinarily comfortable. Not so much with 3-4-3. I think the 767 is the only plane that’s remotely comfortable in standard economy.
I have to agree with you. Although I have not yet flown on the 787 or Airbus A350 to compare. I sure miss the AC767. I had many a comfortable trip with them overseas and domestic.
@@carlhaluss I’ve been on the 787 several times - very uncomfortable in economy. It was designed for 8-across, but most airlines squeeze in 9.
The 333 is fairly comfortable in 2-4-2
You can thank Emirates for that.
I find Delta's position on the 777 odd it had in it's fleet as they got rid of them all but keep almost all their 767's still operating.
Yes, my second cousin just flew to Sydney from Vancouver with C-FIUJ just after midnight on December 18. I myself flew years ago on an Emirates B777-200LR from Dubai to Barcelona. Loved that plane. I took-off like a rocket from Dubai. Impressive aircraft!
Thank you so much for this footage! I hope to fly in ANY 777 before they're retired. What awesome, massive craft. Kudos for dealing with the weather and giving us a holiday treat. Greetings from Michigan!
Well they’re going to be around for a loooong time!
@@JOEM747 I hope so!
@@JOEM747 absolutely, 25+ years would be my guess!
Hello thank you so much for this video! I love this rare plane in that livery!
That AC '87 dripping in green de icer with the blue sky & the frosty white taxi way ....😍🤤
Always nice to see rare aircraft, Great video Alex!
Awesome footage as always, I got some amazing shots of it coming into the gate and then cleaned it! Loved it!
Loving the old air Canada livery
I've noticed on FR24 that AC uses a 77L to fly the YYZ-MUC route. So glad they are back!
They’ve also been using them for flight 135 (YYZ-YYC). FR24 says it’s been here on the 25th and will be on the 29th. Can’t wait to test my new camera with it.
I love the sound of those Detroit motors in the morning!
Another great video. Gosh I'm dying to fly again just for the sake of flying. It's so fun!
Very good photography of these planes!
in case you didn't know some of the 777 300's have less leg room in economy. you can tell by looking at the fin number. fins 739 and below are not high density but 740 and up are high density
Boeing manufactures them to airline specs, different airlines might have different seating
Thanks for the video. The only 777-200's I've been on have been Air France YYZ-CDG and return, though they were either the ER or original variant.
Glad to see there 777LRs are back in the sky once again
Thanks for posting this!! Love your vids. Two mighty LRs are back, 2 more are being prepared to return from VCV and MAR, I believe C-FIUF will be next to return.
Nice video. I was actually surprised to see the LR back in Calgary so soon. I was working the 788 (fin 808) on gate 76 at the time.
Fantastic news! Awesome to see them daily in Munich, they will switch back to 789's in a week though sadly... Merry Christmas and thanks for the amazing footage!
Great Video About The Return of Air Canada's #Boeing777200LRs To #YYC
Been flying the 200 LR and later in 300 ER from Toronto to Hong Kong and back since 2010. Great comfortable long haul plane!
I flew the 777-200 LR in June 2019 with Air Canada from Frankfurt to Calgary in the Businessclass! Ist is a wonderful plane with huge Engines!👍❤️🇩🇪
I’ve taken the same flight to visit my grandpa in Germany. Love Frankfurt
@@Arlo310 yeah, i Live Near Frankfurt and i have work here 46 years! But i love Calgary Tool! It is a wonderful city!
@@wolfgangbing2497 it is! Hopefully you experienced the Rocky Mountains while in town :)
@@Arlo310 yes of course! I like The Mountains. Hopefully i can come for visiting next year! Wish you a good and Healthy New year 2022! 👍❤️🇩🇪
Neat. I was on that exact plane last week between Montreal and Toronto.
Always great to see wide bodies in our sparsely populated country. Anything that isn’t a 737 or A320 is always a treat in Alberta
Wonderful! Thanks for showing my favourite aircraft!!
Thanks Alex for the wonderful 777 pics!
Welcome back it's good glad see you back again.
That was one amazingly gentle looking landing! :-)
This is my favorite 777 variation. I think it was ahead of its time. The 300ER gets all the attention, because it can hold 100 more seats and has high range capability. This is basically a 787-10. If this plane comes out today it would beat the A350 hands down. The smaller jet with the ultra long range is the airlines dreams, and smaller non hub airports best hope for international destinations.
Beautiful capturing ❤
777😍
Best AC livery ever!
Great video Alex!
I just took one from YYZ to YUL and back. So great to fly them again. They’re such fun to fly.
man, you're keen. It's certainly frigid outside. Oh, and to be colder tomorrow.
I'm flying YYC to LAS on Wednesday, currently a 40 degree centigrade temp difference between those 2 fine cities :-)
Today's AC135 from Toronto to Calgary is using 77L. Amazing!
I flew a 77W in 2012 on Air Canada and than a 77L in 2018 . You only realise how Golden the 3-3-3 layout is when you sit in the new 10 across
Great to see there amazing airplanes ✈️
Great to see these in the best livery AC has ever had. I wish they never got the new black and white livery that looks like a 12 year old's work, and stuck with this.
Love the sound of those big turbines spooling up.
I’ve really wanted to fly on one of these!
You deserve credit for being in those frigid conditions.
Been a long long while since I was offered any 777 option domestically. The last time I did plan my flight around that option, it was last minute replaced with a garish mid-90's décor 767. This was not the only reason, but was the last time I used my own money to fly Air Canada.
we have similar weather in YVR at this point. Its too cold to wear flip flops and smoke dope ,now that is cold! How long would it take to get those machines ready to fly again? I love the sound of the 777. Thanks Alex, also for the Lockheed Electra film.
Greetings from YVR to all 13.280 people who watched this film, and a happy 2022,
Bas.
Is that yellow "highlighter" on the wing de-icing?
at 2:50 the 777 looks like my Microsoft flight sim 2020 fr
Fantastic video! Does the 777-200LR still have the original 3-3-3 seating configuration?
Not since sometime in 18 ish.... They updated the cabin to 3-4-3 in economy.
Why were the wings green on the aircraft in this video?
Sweet!!
Still rockin the saniflush blue paint jobs AC. 👍😅
Great video! what gear are you shooting with if you dont mind me asking Alex? Thanks for sharing.
wow i took that same exact 787-8 tail #808 before. crazy to see it on a video
I hope the 200LR returns to Sydney soon!
That actually starts in Toronto Pearson airport which is the 8:15 PM Eastern 10:15 Pacific Vancouver British Columbia AC33/34 flight.
I flew those to Delhi out of toronto. Uncomfortable as hell, but that's AC packing you in.
Share they a temporary thing and not going to get repainted? Or just a stopgap?
I guess this is the thing that can easily fly from Vancouver to Ackland or Sydney, Oz non stop?
You are correct in the case of the Sydney New South Wales flight AC33/34 it is actually the 8:15 EST Toronto to Vancouver, BC flight then Sydney NSW🇦🇺
My mother’s sister actually flew on the aircraft mentioned in the description
First thanks Merry Christmas and keep up the good work.
Second is the triple just being used for the XMass rush or are some rotations on this route regularly flown by a wide body?
The triple is probably just the rush. But there are plenty of widebodies on the route. Daily infacy
Infact*
The B77L just looks so aggressive!
Hi Alex - a bit off topic but I was wondering if you knew anything about the Westjet pilot who suffered a "medical emergency" on Flight 1590 - Monday December 6th? The flight returned to Calgary at 1:12 PM - the Airline has said nothing about the condition of the pilot citing "privacy" - According to media reports EMS that was dispatched to the Airport (Gate 74) did NOT meet the patient which is very odd. Listening to ATC recordings about 9 minutes before landing a pilot radioed "can you confirm EMS is standing by at the gate - our patient just got worse" ATC confirmed "yes they are all there - you are set to go". I thought you would know more because you are plugged into the Calgary aviation community.
It is a privacy issue. No need to know.
I love Air Canadas Wide bodies (787 and 777) I just wish there were more competition flying to Brazil, Canada charge way too much on this route and the only alternative is to go through the USA. Also the old livery is much more beautiful on the 777 than the new one.
I agree service to Brasil sucks why dont they have direct flights from Rio to Canadá AC had temporary route from Rio to Montreal shud reinstale going to São Paulo sucks for connection only other option is copa airlines with transfer they panama direct to Montreal . Country poorly serviced need more competition and airfares very expensive all get screwed here!
These can also run Vancouver,BC🇨🇦 Newark, NJ terminal A🇺🇸 AC 548/549 primary use was Toronto Pearson Airport🇨🇦 to Sydney New South Wales kingsford-smith Airport🇦🇺 route via Vancouver🇨🇦 in the future the new Nancy Bird Walton Airport. AC33 leaves 8:15 pm EST YYZ arrive 10:15 pm PST. What this plane replaced were the A340-500s for Toronto🇨🇦 Hong Kong🇭🇰 route
Really like their overall proportions, more akin to the B763. (762 too stubby and 77W too long). Gives the sense that they’re muscular….
Too bad they are so bad at moving freight...
Is that de-ice that's the bright green, or did they paint the insides of the slats that color?
I hope to fly on A Boeing 777-200ER & 200LR & The Larger Boeing 777-300ER as well hopefully soon.
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
I love that TH-cam offers to translate your comment into English (in English there are a couple fewer “A”s!)
AC have THEE most beautiful livery in the world (not this blue one, the new one).
What a nice plane to spend 4 hours and 40minutes for a domestic ride.................unlike having to climb on an a320 from Newark to LA or Newark to Europe ................. or worst, a 737 from Cairns to Guam; ugh!
I'm hoping that they take the ex-Delta LRs
Boeing B777GT
It's a horrible cattle car in the back with 3-4-3 seating and really close seat pitch. The AC 787 is much more comfortable.
Do you need permission to record aircraft at airports? I always hear of security trying to flex their muscle. Why's the wings look green?
Green is the type 4 deicing fluid, well type 4 is more of an anti icing fluid, type 1 is sprayed to deice the aircraft, type 4 is then applied to keep the ice at bay until takeoff. It is bright green to aid wing inspection for any contamination.
You don't need any exclusive permission to record any aircraft, just as long as you stay on your side of the fence. As for your second question, the green stuff on the wings is anti-ice fluid, so the planes don't fall out of the sky do to icing
@@jaysmith1408 Thanks for the info.
@@i_am_smitty Thanks, I was wondering about photography since people are so paranoid these days.
@@crushingvanessa3277 welcome 🙂
Id sooner walk than fly such an ignorant airline as air canada, by far the worst customer service in the industry.
