    Go easy on the wings. I have owned all of the ATH-AD__X headphones. Broke one wing of my AD700x with little to no force. Even though the AD900x is now $180, permanently attached cable, cheap materials for wings and ear pads would be my gripes. Love the sound signature. Comfort is the best of all the headphones I have ever worn unless you have a small head. Feels light like it's not even there at times. Too add, a non-detachable cable makes no sense. If someone wanted a long cable to listen to music in their living room from a couch, they can buy a long cable. Detachable cable solves that problem.

    My wing broke on a similar model. With the help of a friend, while wearing it, he superglued it back into place. So it doesn't flex anymore, but its where it needs to be when Im wearing it. Ive moved on to other headphones since then, but I still have it.

      Aw dang! I knew it would be a potential weak point!

    • @Syntaxoutofmind

      I know it's a bit late, but my ad900x wings broke 2 times now, but I always got a replacement. Just search the name of the part: ATPT-ADXHP-WING. Sennheiser sells them, but they are expensive for $ 20 each.

      Another workaround is to use a velcro tie and strap it around the wing to the part that is attached to the headphone. Wings still move. It's not perfect, but at least it moves.

    How Would You Grade The Imaging & Mids?

    • @MasterMarslander
      @MasterMarslander  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Midrange is great. It's clear and forward. Male and female vocals are rich and natural. Mid-bass is subtle but still present. Imaging is also good. Very good horizontal separation but not a whole lot of vertical separation.

    Using a hairband on the wings fix the lack of firmness.

    • @MasterMarslander
      @MasterMarslander  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, interesting! How exactly do you attach it?

    • @josephshim2744
      @josephshim2744 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MasterMarslander you loop them between the 2 wings using the stem where the wing pad connected to the wing as the anchor point.
      I start by putting one wing completely through the hairband and then stretch the hairband to loop around the other wing. So when attached it bridges the stems of each wing together with the elastic of the hairband giving it more firmness and keeping it from drooping.
      Also for pad rolling the XL suede/microfiber pad add all the comfort while retaining the original characteristics headphone, the hybrid pads as a little more bass, and the full pleather pads add a lot more bass & doesn't take away the highs. The best pads for this series in my opinion are the Dan Clark alpha dog Lamb skin leather pads.
      I've owned the 700, 900, & the 1000s. It was actually the 700s that got me started in the hobby.

    All open back headphones are "bass light" me son.

    • @MasterMarslander
      @MasterMarslander  ปีที่แล้ว

      There's a big difference between having natural bass (like many open backs) and being bass light.

    • @TerryBollea1
      @TerryBollea1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MasterMarslander I dont know what you mean by natural bass. All open backs have less bass then closed backs. Full stop.

    • @MasterMarslander
      @MasterMarslander  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TerryBollea1 I understand where you're coming from, but I think that is too much of a generalization. Closed chasis are better acoustically designed for puncher bass, but that doesn't always mean it's guaranteed. Fidelio X2 has much harder hitting bass than Ether Closed, for example. There are exceptions to the rule, but again, I get what you're saying.

    • @TerryBollea1
      @TerryBollea1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MasterMarslander thats impossible. Sound leaks out from an open back. Bass NEEDS to have something to vibrate against. An open back can produce more bass waves, but they will just leak out and you wont hear them. You cannot hear bass waves unless they move through something. Thats just how our anatomy works. If there is ajn exception to that, then someone needs to write a paper on it cause humans have evolved and no one told us yet.

    • @Mosamania
      @Mosamania ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TerryBollea1 There is a big difference between "Clean bass" and "Extenuated Bass" which you get from some closed backs, interestingly enough having clean bass from closed backs is much harder to get than with open backs. I have 16 headphones and best bass I get is from the Abyss Diana V2 which is an open back headphone.
      More bass doesn't mean better bass, not by a long shot.

    AD500X was my first open back headphones. Never liked wing system it just sux, best self adjusting system is created by Meze in 99's. People comments about open back design was mostly that they lack in bass/sub bass, after my first listening session conclusion was simple, poor dumb people can say that. Maybe those ignorants didnt have real amp or just bassheads without a clue what real music is, dont know. So after AD500X opened my eyes and ears ;) I started to love music and headphones again ❤. Until this day I praise open back design, I would buy Audio Technica again but wing system keep me away. BTW I highly recommend to try Tangzu Zetian IEM's for the price they are spectacular, I'm a big fan of those (class A or tube amp recommended + break in time if new)
