  • Hi, this 'How To' video explains in depth how to install cat6 plugs onto cat6 solid core cable. It shows the difference between cat5e and cat6 plugs and cat5e and cat6 cable. The same process is used to install stranded cat6 cable.
    Many thanks Vince

    The green wires did not cooperate making it impossible to follow your guidelines exactly, but I got the general idea from your tutorial, so thank you for that. My Klemko Cat6 RJ45 connectors had a separate guide for the wires too, but the openings were staggered 2,1,2,1,2. Had to cut the wires in a stairway. Highest step pair of orange-white and orange, below that single green-white, then pair of blue and blue-white, then single green, finally and on lowest step the pair of brown-white and brown. Shifting on the wire-guide now had become easy and finishing off like in your tutorial leads to instant success.

    Brilliant! - Worked like a dream first time, with one practice go an a short bit of cable - I now have cabled Ethernet off a second unmanaged switch - at the exact same speeds as the patch leads out of my first unmanaged switch which is attached directly to the router. - Power-line adapters just weren't doing it - Great tips throughout!
    All for just £20. And half of that was the crimper tool.!

    Very well explained and demonstrated. This helped me. I'm about to re-wire our home network. We're using cat 5 that was installed about 20 years ago, with lots of attic and outdoor exposure. I just replaced the RJ45 connectors on one line and they are difficult to keep in line. I didn't know about the testing gadget. I will definitely pick one up as I had to redo my RJ45s after messing up the pairs. Thank you.

    Honestly a very helpful video as always. Using CAT 6 spool, I've actually ran long fairly long ethernet leads this way. Once you memorize the order of the colors, you could easily make hundreds of cables of various lengths for any device you own that supports ethernet. Not to mention that they can also be used for HDMI over ethernet.

    Explained well Vince but this may help you and your watchers. To make it much easier to work the Cat 6, before cutting the center white nylon separator, grab it with your pliers and stretch it out of the main cable and then cut it as far in to the cable as possible.

    I’m really annoyed as I’ve now wasted 21/2 hours doing exactly what you’ve said in that every single rj45 connector I used never worked as the wires kept springy out as the blue and white blue crossed over the rest of the wires which in turn failed at every test.. I’ve now bought the correct rj45’s with the load bars and now hope these work better otherwise I’m giving up..
    Thank you for The video but wish you would’ve been clearer on the video and used the correct wires / connectors plus used them in situe as anyone can wire a wire when all you have is 2’ 🙄, I appreciate its to show and demonstrate the easiness of doing this and I even saved these videos to watch over again and did that exact thing 20 plus times..

    • @kenneb04
      @kenneb04 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps what I should have said is the connectors I have are cat 5 ones which came as part of the starter pack, if I new these wouldn’t have worked I would’ve bought the correct ones with the load bar and saved myself a lot of time.

    • @FMD023
      @FMD023 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can. I use cat 5e adaptors on a cat 6 cable. The wires are thicker on 6 but still fairly easy to insert. I just learned that if you use ethernet for source to source, it has to be a straight connection. If you try to place say an ethernet outlet jack in the middle. It will not work.

  • @zaccarter5110

  • @FMD023
    @FMD023 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So say you have cat 5e adaptors and used it with a cat 6 cable. Will it still work? I notice it does if you connect it straight to a source say media to projector. I tried to add an outlet in the middle and that was an epic fail. Then I read that if you install an outlet jack it's only for internet speed? I'm using an HDMI extender that uses cat 5/6. My thinking was make it cleaner but i guess if it's going from one source to another you have to have a straight connection.

    I love your video's - so good. Q for you. Ive laid 2 x 50m underground cat 6 cables for CCTV and had the ground covered over :-(. Ive tested cables with tester. 1st cable - all of the lights light up perfectly. 2nd cable the 8th light doesn't light up so theres a fault either with the plug or the cable - would this mean that the CCTV camera wouldn't work ? would that 8th cable be essential ? ( didn't want to put a new plug on if the 8th cable wasn't crucial - whaddyathink ?

    Not all Cat 6 connectors are like the ones you used. I have a box sitting in front of me that have all the pins in a straight line, like the cat 5 ones. These are a 3 part connector and unfortunately require a different crimper. Part 1 is the plug itself. Unlike the cat5 plug, it has no pin guides built in. It uses part 2 ... a sled which serves as the wire guide. Part 3 is a separator to help in ordering the pins and stops one inadvertantly untwisting the pairs back into the sheath. I just wired two cables using these connectors and both failed. Turns out that the teeth on the connectors failed to dig through the cable insulation despite a very firm crimp.

    Hi great video but what I don’t understand you can buy a ready made cat 6 cable far cheaper than making one such as 25m cat 6 of eBay £7.99 then to make the cable yourself proberly 2/3 times the amount then you have to buy the tools
    Or are the ready made cables not as good as your own made ?

    • @vvwording4844
      @vvwording4844 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Getting your perfect cable length is hard to find using ready made cables. The cables that are too short are just that - too short. But the cables that are just a little bit too long? That's the real pain.

    Hi Vince, is there such a thing as cat6e cable? it certainly looks like that written on the cable.It has solid colours re the inner wires, NO stripey colours.

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, normally it is cat6a but some manufacturers do have cat6e. If you bought that cable from eBay then there is a chance it may be fake as I tested some cable that matched that description and it was fake. Strip a bit back to see if the core is silver or gold (copper). The fake one I had was pure aluminium and had very few twists in it. If it looks like copper and has goods twists on it then the white/orange wire will be the white wire wrapped around the orange wire and for example the white/blue wire will be the white wire wrapped around the blue wire.

    Hi buddy
    I want to try and get cat6 faceplates in almost every room if the room has a phone line can i pull it through and just change the faceplates, and would each lead need it's own port in the router or can I hook up to one faceplate /master socket to link to the one Lan connection hopefully u understand the ramblings of a novice ;-)

    • @Mymatevince
      @Mymatevince  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      gavin2678 Hi, unfortunately each cat6 faceplate needs its own Ethernet port in the router so you will quickly run out of ports and then need to install a network switch. You will have to run one cable to each cat6 faceplate so quite a bit of wiring will be involved. It is different to telephone wiring because with telephone wiring you can link one socket to the next socket because only one socket can be used at any one time but with network wiring each socket can be used even if the other sockets are in use.Hope this makes sense.Many thanks Vince
