Great video! I can't tell you how many overland videos I just can't watch because of the over gear, overbuilt rigs ,and none of them seem to have a job! Now I must admit, I have a very well equipped "07" fj,180,000 miles, its not pretty,or clean. But i made it a practical working rig for camping....I don't even like the word overlander! I'm not to proud to say I have traditional camping gear(some newer). Have built my own accessories ,have harbor freight stuff. Your message is spot on,most of us just work to get by,not to go in debt to show all that name brand high end stuff. If you can do it,then good for you. But take what you got,be practical in your decisions and just go enjoy. Don't get me wrong, you can add things to make it better experience, but not everything is needed. Alot of people spend more time building up a rig, then out using it. Once again, great practical advice...Thanks, nice to hear that on screwtube,!
As always y'all are full of common sense. You have given some good advice to those new to overlanding. This should be a valuable series. We car camped for decades. While "overlanding" is similar in IMO it is more vehicle centric than car camping. We have parked our old suburban with the two sky boxes and all the tents and other heavy but capable camping gear and now use a Jeep. While we added a Ursa Minor camper top and a winch and aux fuel tank we have kept the drive train stock so it's reliable as possible...for all the reasons you explained. We are more weight conscious now and though we are still "camping" we are pushing deeper into the forest and more often driving trails we would not have driven in the suburban. Our adventure is now built around the vehicle's capabilities however basic or advanced they may be. That's why I think overlanding is different than car camping. In the end it's just words. Call it whatever you want. We have had a great time with our Jeep and met a lot of interesting people overlanding...and wheeling too for the matter.
In my Carport and driveway are: my Aunt’s 2021 Prius (Nikki Delventhal lived out of one for 3ish tears), Dad’s 2017 SR 4cyl 4x2 DCSB Tacoma and my 2023 Tacoma TRD OR 4x4 ACLB. I’m planing on building out my Tacoma’s bed simply and just putting on some 255/85R16 pizza cutter tires without a lift. ( 7:29 well there goes my tire choice since I want C range tires.
Growing up in the 70's we went off-roading or 4 wheeling. In my 60's now, I never head the term overlanding until recent years. Never heard Americans use it once. Overlanding is something foreigners use then Americans picked it up. Overlanding= driving an automobile on pavement or trails. Big deal!
Agreed. So tired of catching channels with unlimited resources building camping rigs that "anyone can do". Can't we just go back to calling it camping...
So in summary what you are saying is buy everything everything the "influencers" tell you to buy (that they got for free) and when those things become old and dated buy the new thing they just got for free? 🤫😜

not a bunch of luxury car items , no stupid 3rd row , massive sunroofs power fold tilt this and that ., most wagons /s.u..v one can sleep in the back . so no need for a roof top tent ,mini van is a good car camper , or just add a camper top /shell on a pick up if one can find a 6.5" or 8' box
One of the best channels on TH-cam! Great work as always!
Thank you for this episode!

Another solid video, Mark. We released a portable jump starter. Can we invite you to do a review? We have emailed for an inquiry.
You two are the best! Thank you for your posts!
