  • Universal Genève has been acquired by the owners of Breitling, Partners Group with the intention of relaunching the brand and restoring it to its former glory. It's exciting news for fans of the brand known for famous watches like the Polerouter but it remains to be seen how things will pan out.

I’m hopeful these will be faithful designs of the originals. Timex has proved with the Marlin that there is a market for smaller affordable watches. However, the cynic in me thinks they may be over sized and over priced.

That’s my concern too. I don’t even understand why most brands nowadays keeps pumping large watches like those 42mm or bigger? I mean, most men watches back in 60s to 70s are around 35 or 36 and people wore it on regular basis so why they got bigger nowadays? It might work well for others but my 5 1/2 inches couldn’t wear anything larger than 38mm. I also prefer my watch to be less noticeable so I don’t really like a larger one (I want people to see my face first, not my watch).

I would pay Rolex prices for a tasteful, respectful reissue of the Polerouter, provided it was less than 40mm diameter.

I think many people would. We'll have to wait and see!

No way! I do like it but it doesn't come close to the Polerouter.

If they are selling 15k watches, yawn, it will be another brand I ignore.
If they produce wafches below 10k I hope the opposite - 40 or 42mm watches.
The last thing the watch world needs is more tiny watches. I want vintage inspired, occasionally, but not an actual watch that’s stuck entirely in the past.

I disagree there are loads of 40mm+ dress watches and chronographs. 'Tiny' watches are the exception not the rule!
