- There is nothing better than a glass of refreshing iced tea on a hot day. This homemade lemon Iced tea recipe is quick, easy and simple to make. I sweetened my tea with sugar syrup but you can also use sugar. simply stir it into the tea while it is still hot so it dissolves completely.

This is the best thing I have drank but I added ginger lemon and herbs tea instead of normal tea which made mine have a Halloween flavor of spices but it was still delicious and I added some sugar to the tea when it still had the tea packets in. It was absolutely delicious and I will do it again ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I make alot of hot spice tea in the fall and winter months ,but I have never used baking soda in cold tea .good to know and I will try it .

Lmao, me too! I hate it when I get a drink from a cafe with syrup and they never mix it. I always mix now so it doesn't taste over bearing.

What does the baking soda do to the iced tea/
Remove the bitter taste /if brewed too long /too strong
What's the purpose of the baking soda?
Stops the tea from being cloudy and makes it smoother. Because when the tea becomes cold quick with the ice it becomes cloudy

what's the baking soda for? removing acidity?
The baking soda is to enhance clarity - when you cool tea rapidly, the tea becomes cloudy. When you add the baking soda it increases the pH of the water such that when it cools rapidly, the cloudiness effect is reduced.
It will taste slightly more bitter, but in terms of pH, you're bang on!

It helps the Tea to not taste so acidic. It is optional though.

It is optional! these are the reasons why I add it, it tastes smoother and also to help eliminate bitterness from the tea in case it was over-steeped.

Lol. Steeping tea for 5 minutes will ensure your tea is as bitter as possible! Water temp and proportion is critical too.
