Looking at it logically, if your cross guard curves towards you, rather than doing it's job and stopping your opponents blade, their blade would slide off it and keep going into you. Am I wrong?
yh, and guards pointing towards the hilt interfere with your own movements instead, only worth in a full basket hilt type guard that protects your whole hand, and even then the false/back edge side (side pointing at you) is still curved up and not down.
@@OurHiltsHurt The Hound's Back-Sword. The hilt is long, and the pommel is thick. I'm a bigger guy, though not Clegane big, but I prefer two-handed longswords with lengthy hilts, as opposed to the short hilts of say, an Arming Sword.

I have to differ in some regards: Better Swordsman: Jaime (clears easily). Better Sword: Daemon (by far). Better Armor: Daemon (pretty close, but Daemon looks a bit cooler). Better Hairstyle: Jaime. Better Nickname: Jaime (Rogue Prince is dope, but Kingslayer is probably the coolest nickname in the whole series) Leadership: Daemon. (and this isnt even a Debate, I do realize you guys are quite biased to Jaime... But cmon, Jaime is a pretty dumb leader, who inspires little confidence between his men. The only respect they have for him is bc of his name, the fear they have of Tywin and his swordskills... While Daemon genuinely inspires loyalty and love between his men, plus being CLEARLY the better military mind) Love of Brother: Jaime (By a lot, both in the series as in the books, specially in the books where Tyrion is an actual soab with him and Jaime still cares for him). Their whit: Daemon (books Jaime is more of a 50-50 against Daemon... But series Jaime? Really, he gets owned every 2 seconds lmao, specially in the later seasons. He did have a lot of dope comebacks in the first seasons, but still, there were moments where he got Outwhited by even Ned Stark) Who controls them: Daemon wins. (he acts based on the loyalty to the blood of the dragon, and hes mostly, loyal to himself... Jaime instead, is Cersei's little lapdog for most of the books/series, well... For the entirity of the series. In the books he does manage to be more free in the end, but still, Daemon takes this). Their Lovers: Daemon. (Seriously guys? Jaimes only been WITH 1 WOMAN for his whole life, getting c4ck0lded A LOT OF TIMES, where Cersei lays with whoom she pleases, at least Daemon isnt such a c4ck and tries different women...) How they die: Daemon. (Theres literally no better nor a more dope death than Daemon, doesnt matter how Jaime dies in the books, IF he does... And in the series? Jaimes death is CRINGE). The final result: Daemon 7. Jaime 4. I tried to be as objective as I could... Tho its pretty subjective the armor regard.
I dont think jaimie is a better swordsman than daemon but at the its all about opinion. And no doubt in his time Daemon was the best fighter cuz he did beat Cole (who was considered the best).
The difference is that Jaime’s story isn’t finished and therefore he has the chance to develop and become a better character in all of those regards. But as it stands, if you follow the shows ending especially l, I agree that Daemon is a better character. The only thing I disagree with you on is that Jaime is wittier than Daemon in my opinion.
It is only natural. After all, George RR Martin's main inspirations for Jaime were Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, God (old testament), Kratos, Lemmy Kilmister and Jesus.
@@uglukthemedicineman5933 Jaime defenitely wasnt inspired by Julius Caesar nor Alexander the Great, LMFAO. Those were incredibly highly intelligent individuals, and amongst the best military minds in history, even defeating armies that outnumbered them 5 to 1, or even more. Oh, I almost forgot that Rob only had about 18.000 men vs Jaime +30.000... Yh, brilliant military commander, just Like Cesar or Alexander. No, Jaime is much more like Achilles, the unnstopable warrior... But hes way too dumb to be an elite general. He literally lost while having EVERY advantage possible.
Dunno why everyone says Daemon lost to Criston Cole, he won the fight, he just started waving to the crowd while Criston was down and got hit in the back after Criston got back up.
The feat isn’t even valuable, as it’s far before Daemon leads a war in the Steppe Stones. This is a knight who may have never fought for his life; against a veteran.
a minor observation: The wings and the dragon head mounted on daemon's helm are a little homage to the hedge knight graphic novels, wich introduced it to targaryen armor.
Jamie really out does Daemon at nearly everything Daemon cares about. Tactics, Swordplay, Incest. Doesn’t really matter to be honest, because Jamie could never do something as metal as the Battle above the God’s Eye. Daemon’s a character of myth, alongside those of Duncan the Tall or Barristan Selmy. When it comes to the things Jamie really values, his legacy as a knight. Daemon’s had him beat for over a hundred years. He’s written his story in history; and Jamie can only hope to do something as memorable. It’s not like a backstabbing is going to rank up there with a dragon dance.
Exactly he is, everyone including GRRM talks about how great he is but he is no feats to talk about in the books I don't see how he's better Jaime, As for Barriston i think he clears any one

Google longsword crossguard types and you will see dark sister while the guard curved toward the inside like you say doesn't exist in historical examples A crossguard like that would deflect a blade towards your body while dark sister's crossguard is curved towards its blade so it would deflect incoming blades away from you hence why half the longsword ever built had DARKSISTERS CROSSGUARD
Btw the line was Ned’s. Jaimie says something about never losing a fight and Ned says “choose your opponents well then”. Probably Ned’s biggest mic drop

@@OurHiltsHurt I meant it in a way that he is involved in political intrigues quite a lot, has an ambition for crown, which Jaime doesn't do as much, preferring to just be a kingsguard
The problem with the crossguard facing the opposite way is that it could a.) get in the way of a person trying to swing or for whatever reason spin their sword, and b.) Blades couls hit the crossguard and slide down and chop someone's arm(s) off. I actually think Daemon's crossguard facing the way it is is more practical because it can catch someone's blade

Any ideas?" >Night King appears and stares at Bran, his ultimate target >"Oathkeeper." >Jaime steps in between them, laughing somberly >"Do you know what they call me?" >as Azor Ahai walks toward the Night King, all that can be heard is a cacophony of voices from past seasons cursing: >"Kingslayer.. Good point, Daemon’s sword is literally lighter, sharper; and more durable. Jamie would tire faster at the very least, assuming Daemon can’t just cut through Jamie’s chainmail. You gotta do some serious time travel fuckery to give Jamie two hands; and a Valyrian sword for this duel to be “fair”.
@@fletcherw32 lighter doesn't mean better though, that's entirely a personal preference. the lighter the blade relative to the hilt the lower the balance point the weaker the slash (granted you don't chop but slice with a sword) due to less mass and even speed (if not cutting upward) in the cut, however you get good point control. (exaggerated example: holding a bottle by the bottom vs near the cap) Well except if you made a greatsword lighter yet as durable and rigid, but dark sister is just an average longsword size wise. So the Stark sword ICE is actually a superior sword. Yh valyrian steel should be on either the longer side or/and thin side to take advantage of their magical steel. so Rapier style or warsword/greatsword size Although, back to longswords, valyrian steel has magical sharpness and whatnot so that could make up for the less powerful strike. All in all except if daemon breaks Jamie's sword then the advantage is irrelevant.

Honestly, I have to comment it everywhere now, but Edward walks into that throne room… 100% intent on killing the mad king if he’s still alive He’s literally just jealous. My pet theory is that Ned already hated him and just used that opportunity to slant Jamie’s most heroic moment. I think Ned secretly wanted to fight Jamie just as much as Jamie wants to fight him in in the modern timeline, and he was salty Jamie did the right thing and robbed Ned of that sweet sweet double kill
I think if you asked George about who the best fighter in the books and would say Jaime. There is a pasaage in a storm of swords that makes me say that. Jaime is clearly the better person
I disagree with the Jamie over Daemon on the basis of leadership. The argument put forth was organization and Daemon organized the gold cloaks. If we’re going to nerf Daemon by taking his dragon, let’s nerf Jamie by taking his fathers fear over the kingdom. So who do you follow, the guy who won a war in the stepstones and organized the corrupt police force or the guy who got tricked by a 16 year old boy, can’t control a small detachment of men from starting a war. Good vid though.
In asoiaf, who's better at fighting is a fairly useless question. The greatest knight who ever lived, armed with the best of all swords, got killed by Howland Reed and Eddard Stark. Individual prowess is for tourneys, outside of them Daemon has a big vicious dragon and would use it.
@@OurHiltsHurt and he made intentionally edgy remarks like Jaime Lannister being a better fighter than Aragorn even though the former doesn't get to take on dozens upon dozens of orks without a scratch. And the latter even repels not one, but five ringwraiths on his own at Weathertop with a broken sword and a torch. There are the answers our author comes up with for fans at conventions, and the actual books. Khal Drogo is unabashedly the greatest of the Dothraki warriors, yet one infection gets him out of the story. It is all, admittedly, my own interpretation. Martin is a guy very much influenced by his hippie stance against the Vietnam War, in which many people who were probably incredible shooters or straight up very capable soldiers got killed by mines, spike traps, mortar strikes, and snipers without ever seeing their enemy.
Tbh I'm far from being a Daemon fan, he's a bit overrated imo (Matt Smith is a great actor, but Daemon as a character? Meh), and his hardcore fanboys/fangirls are one of the most annoying people in the fandom (I've been attacked multiple times by them for simply saying that I personally prefer Aemond as a character in the show lol), so for me it's an obvious pick. Jaime with his redemption arc is probably GRRM's best character in my opinion. That's why what D&D did to him in the last seasons of GoT literally broke my heart.
No matter how Jamie dies in the book it’s not gonna be cooler than how Damon dies. He jumps off his dragon, probably thousands of feet up in the air and stabs. His nephew threw his eye who’s on another dragon.
You know what’s weird in game of thrones (bravos) they have gunpowder and use it in fireworks in bravos but no actual weapons and they’ve had that for a while as they use it to mark their liberation from slavery
That's historically accurate though as far as I have heard. The chinese had fireworks for hundreds of years before they started weaponizing it, if I remember correctly.
When you say only sir Arthur can beat Jaime don't forget the living legend sir Barrisan the Bold who was a monster in his prime, he killed Maelys the Monsterous after cutting through his army
Have u read the books? Daemon is probably one of the best commanders and leader is Asoiaf history and the most legendary warrior so far at the time of the dance. Surely he can beat only the 3rd best swordsman in GoT

Kings guard Jaime drip is drippy afffff.
Love hearing yall talk about GOT or HOTD, you can really tell you guys are two friends who enjoy talking about it together, thanks for the content!
Thanks. We are glad you found the channel and enjoy listening to us.
In one of the books Edmure is sarcastically listing things he'd rather do than marry a Frey, and one is drowning in the sea and another is "single combat with the Kingslayer". Obviously implying that a fight with Jaime is a guaranteed death sentence.
Jaime is S++ he beats Daemon 100/100 times.
4:45 that guard is actually very practical as it helps trap opponent's blades
Jaime has the genetics of a Greek god so I agree
Jaime wins because he would probably last a few seconds longer against Guts from Berserk than gaemon would.
It’s spelled GAYmon
Looking at it logically, if your cross guard curves towards you, rather than doing it's job and stopping your opponents blade, their blade would slide off it and keep going into you. Am I wrong?
Yeah you’re right
Thank god someone said something.
Exactly. The upward curve helps with wrapping your opponents blade too
yh, and guards pointing towards the hilt interfere with your own movements instead, only worth in a full basket hilt type guard that protects your whole hand, and even then the false/back edge side (side pointing at you) is still curved up and not down.
Most Targaryens are overrated as shit IMO, glad to see you agree, Maegor is very much underrated tho

Best Daemon quote while talking to Corlys: “I will speak of my brother as I wish, you will not.”
Truth, great line
Jaime is the athlete that works at it, watches film, eats right, and kicks ass and he's got the hottest hottie on the dl. Everyone knows he's the best on the team, he knows he's the best on the team, but.....
Daemon is the cool guy who has the talent, but parties hard, and gets that highlight reel clip and clutch performance enough to be a star player. Daemon sells merch, Jaime sets records.
Daemon wouldn't have lost to Crissy, in the show, if he wasn't showboating.
And DarkSister is the superior sword.
But we have eight seasons of Jaime growth, and we know we won't get that for Daemon.

Kingslayer is in the same category of nickname as Aegon III Dragonsbane. Objectively hard as fuck, used as a slight in-universe.
Rouge Prince is like the name of a world of warcraft player 😂
Truuuuue lol
I think the nickname rogue prince is cool and mysterious.
I prefer Jamie over Daemon though.
But it's very tryhard, it's like with Gerold "the darkstar" Dayne, you just know that nickname was self given and that makes it cringe as hell.
Yeah, it's mysterious as in it could mean anything. With Kingslayer, you know that they murdered a head of state.

On the curve of the crossguard: in historical examples, if it was curved, it would point away from your wrists so that it wouldn't dig into your wrists everytime you weren't holding it in a hammer grip.
I have to differ in some regards:
Better Swordsman: Jaime (clears easily).
Better Sword: Daemon (by far).
Better Armor: Daemon (pretty close, but Daemon looks a bit cooler).
Better Hairstyle: Jaime.
Better Nickname: Jaime (Rogue Prince is dope, but Kingslayer is probably the coolest nickname in the whole series)
Leadership: Daemon. (and this isnt even a Debate, I do realize you guys are quite biased to Jaime... But cmon, Jaime is a pretty dumb leader, who inspires little confidence between his men. The only respect they have for him is bc of his name, the fear they have of Tywin and his swordskills... While Daemon genuinely inspires loyalty and love between his men, plus being CLEARLY the better military mind)
Love of Brother: Jaime (By a lot, both in the series as in the books, specially in the books where Tyrion is an actual soab with him and Jaime still cares for him).
Their whit: Daemon (books Jaime is more of a 50-50 against Daemon... But series Jaime? Really, he gets owned every 2 seconds lmao, specially in the later seasons. He did have a lot of dope comebacks in the first seasons, but still, there were moments where he got Outwhited by even Ned Stark)
Who controls them: Daemon wins.
Jaimes only been WITH 1 WOMAN for his whole life, getting c4ck0lded A LOT OF TIMES, where Cersei lays with whoom she pleases, at least Daemon isnt such a c4ck and tries different women...)
How they die: Daemon. (Theres literally no better nor a more dope death than Daemon, doesnt matter how Jaime dies in the books, IF he does... And in the series? Jaimes death is CRINGE).
The final result:
Daemon 7.
Jaime 4.
I tried to be as objective as I could... Tho its pretty subjective the armor regard.
Couldnt agree more.
The amount of Jaime glazing in this video is outrageous 😂
Well are we wrong? Lol
It is only natural.
After all, George RR Martin's main inspirations for Jaime were Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, God (old testament), Kratos, Lemmy Kilmister and Jesus.

a minor observation: The wings and the dragon head mounted on daemon's helm are a little homage to the hedge knight graphic novels, wich introduced it to targaryen armor.
The true hot take is: Arthur Dayne is overrated.
But people are not ready for this conversation...

Daemon dam near a average warrior compared to a prime Jaime. It's so many people you could put over Daemon easily. A prime Robert, Barriston Selmy, Arthur Dane, Oberyn martell, The Clegane brothers, Khal Drogo, Daario Naharis, Greyworm.

I do find it odd when they're talking about Damon's crossguard flaring up. "Flaring down it would slip off" yes sir, it would indeed, slip off and take my hand
Late af here but Jaime hands down at the start of the video... Jaime hands down, you take away Daemon’s dragon and Jaimie bodies him every time. There’s only a handful of people in their prime could take Jaime on and that’s before we even see Jaime in his prime. I don’t think we ever got to see Jaime at his peak because of him losing his dominant hand.
This might be true for book canon but as far as the show goes Jamie loses and it’s not that close
I think Jamie is a better character (Daemon in the books in kind of an agro bitch until around the nettles storyline) but Matt is, imo, a more charasmatic actor. I find his performance more compelling (not to say I don't enjoy Nikolaj though). I think that's the distinction I would make :)
Yeah Matt Smith really elevates the character. His performance carries so many scenes imo
Damon has a dragon, case closed. No one can touch him. No sword can match dragon fire
That's like saying that the boxer who shows up to the match with a shotgun is a better fighter
@@uglukthemedicineman5933 not really, anyone can use a shotgun. Only a few houses can tame a dragon. And if you’re one of the lucky few no one can match you
I love Matt Smith's Daemon (it was him playing it that allowed me to see the hype), but Jaimie FUCKING Lannister is the best character of ASOIAF, book and even show Jaimie are amazing.
I put a like on the video just because I gotta support the "A song of ice and fire community" but I will say these guys are on Jamie's tip hardcore. Oathkeeper is very busy design wise to me but most of the time you'd be wearing a gauntlet or mailed gloved while wielding it so I don't think it would tear up your hand. Bare handing that thing for sure would
Google longsword crossguard types and you will see dark sister while the guard curved toward the inside like you say doesn't exist in historical examples
A crossguard like that would deflect a blade towards your body while dark sister's crossguard is curved towards its blade so it would deflect incoming blades away from you hence why half the longsword ever built had DARKSISTERS CROSSGUARD
Btw the line was Ned’s. Jaimie says something about never losing a fight and Ned says “choose your opponents well then”. Probably Ned’s biggest mic drop
Yeah, he has the dragon which is a cheat code but at the step stones he runs in and does that by himself yet smoke pulls up to help, but that’s not even his dragon that he won V1 the leader by himself he doesn’t always just rely on caraxies
I think they aren't similar enough to be compared, Daemon is a ruler, Jaime is a warrior
Yeah but what did Daemon rule?
@@OurHiltsHurt I meant it in a way that he is involved in political intrigues quite a lot, has an ambition for crown, which Jaime doesn't do as much, preferring to just be a kingsguard
Yeah true, I agree with that. They both are used as knights but Jaime has no interest in ruling and Daemon does.
Imagine this
>final battle of humanity vs the dead
>Bran is warged into the past, being protected by
Jaime and Brienne
>white walker stabs Brienne with her own sword, she
lays on the ground dying
>cut to young Jaime kneeling, with Aerys Targaryean
saying "In the name of the Warrior, | charge you to be
brave..."
>Jaime kills the WW, and after a brief moment of grief,
draws the sword from Brienne, now aflame
>cut to Aerys: "Do you swear to defend the innocent
and the helpless, in the name of the Seven?" "| swear
it"
>audio of Jaime and Brienne's parting plays as Jaime
looks around
>"They say the best swords have names. Any ideas?"
>Night King appears and stares at Bran, his ultimate
target
>"Oathkeeper."
>Jaime steps in between them, laughing somberly
>"Do you know what they call me?"
>as Azor Ahai walks toward the Night King, all that can
be heard is a cacophony of voices from past seasons
cursing:
>"Kingslayer.. Kingslayer! KINGSLAYER
pre-hand chop, Jaime takes the win easily. post, i think Daemon would win, but with a moderate amount of difficulty.
The cross guard on those type of swords is for tangling up an enemy’s sword more than for defense of the hand.
the upward curve of dark sister's hilt makes it better to enter a bind

Is Daemon using Darksister?? Jamie didn't get his OP sword until after he lost his hand.
(exaggerated example: holding a bottle by the bottom vs near the cap)
Well except if you made a greatsword lighter yet as durable and rigid, but dark sister is just an average longsword size wise. So the Stark sword ICE is actually a superior sword.
Yh valyrian steel should be on either the longer side or/and thin side to take advantage of their magical steel. so Rapier style or warsword/greatsword size
Although, back to longswords, valyrian steel has magical sharpness and whatnot so that could make up for the less powerful strike.
All in all except if daemon breaks Jamie's sword then the advantage is irrelevant.
@@fletcherw32daemon got that sword cause he was already a great fighter prior to it.

Bro people are literally considering that hit behind the back from cristen cole as a win .....bro daemon was literally celebrating after he put him down
Jamie wins in the skill tree but i think Arthur Dayne takes it all according to Jamie
Dark Sister's hilt is super practical
The upwards curve is super good for fighting
Honestly, I have to comment it everywhere now, but Edward walks into that throne room… 100% intent on killing the mad king if he’s still alive
He’s literally just jealous.
Totally agree. Jaime is not a good person but he is better than Daemon.
Daemon clears the Glorified Bodyguard as Tywin calls him.
Amd he weilds a Varlyrin steel sword. That would cut through Jamie's armor and sword.
To be clear, I agree Jamie over Daemon over all, just that particular segment
you speaking facts, jamie has no actual feats like daemon does
I like Jamie because his actor reminded me of what an older eragon would look like, they’re both king slayers.
I really don’t get the love for Jamie, sure he’s a good character but he never seemed that great to me.
Which character do you think is great?
Dark Sister guard is awesome. Curving that way allows you to catch their sword in a bind
In asoiaf, who's better at fighting is a fairly useless question. The greatest knight who ever lived, armed with the best of all swords, got killed by Howland Reed and Eddard Stark. Individual prowess is for tourneys, outside of them Daemon has a big vicious dragon and would use it.
Idk if it’s useless. It’s not definitive. GRRM has talked about it a lot.
Tywin is the best Lannister by far. Kevan is a close second.
Kevan might be the most underrated character in the series.
On the show Kevan was a bitch! What Cersei say?! "My uncle Kevan who has the courage of a kitchen mouse"
Otto made it sounds like Daemon used “heir for a day” as a punchline when we know Daemon revered the title
