Ramesh Raskar, Associate Professor, MIT Media Lab and Co-founder EyeNetra.com
Ramesh Raskar is director of the Camera Culture group at MIT Media Lab. He holds more than 40 US patents across the fields of computaional photography, inverse problems in imaging, and human-computer interaction. He has long track record of working with large and small companies, and has transferred many of his patents into commercial products. His recent inventions include transient imaging to look around corners, a novel CAT-scan machine, imperceptible motion capture markers (Prakash), long-distance barcodes (Bokode), and touch and hover 3D interaction displays (BiDi screen). Raskar has been the recipient of the Technology Review TR100 Award (top young innovators), the Global Indus Technovator Award (top 20 Indian technology innovators worldwide), a Sloan Research Fellowship, the DARPA Young Faculty award, LAUNCH Health Innovation Award, presented by NASA, USAID, US State Dept and NIKE, Vodafone Wireless Innovation Project Award (first place) and four Mitsubishi Electric Invention Awards. He is currently co-authoring a book on Computational Photography.

EyeNetra is based on an award winning technology developed at MIT Media Lab by Prof. Ramesh Raskar's team. EyeNetra develops mobile phone eye diagnostics that measures the correction of users' vision. The first device is called NETRA, consisting of a low cost i.e. less than $10 clip on eyepiece that attaches to a smart phone and allows the user to take a simple and quick eye test for nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. At the end of the 3 minute test, users receive data for a glasses prescription.
Once the first product has been validated, EyeNetra plans to develop a suite of eye diagnostics for cataracts and retinal conditions that integrate on a cloud; based platform that brokers new business between patients and providers and vendors eg hospitals, doctors, eyeglass stores, pharmaceuticals, and more.
