    Beware of companies who claim they want a data analyst but the job is actually that of a BI Engineer or Data Engineer.
    Also, if it is remote work, they are scaling salaries based on cost of living in your location. In other words, a company based in New York is not going to pay you a New York salary if you are based in Florida.

    Another great video, thanks Agatha! Any interest in doing a video on upskilling in data analytics + good projects to add to your data portfolio? For example, I currently don’t use SQL heavily in my job but I want to keep my SQL skills fresh - thinking to work on a SQL project to add to my portfolio + as a way to practice and reinforce my skills

    Nice video and interesting to see the rates for the different roles! What is your honest opinion as a data engineer on the data reliability of glassdoor's salary reports? I see many alternative videos and articles tackling this topic and they have different resources.

    • @agathakang
      @agathakang  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad you enjoyed the video and good question! Glassdoor is only as good as the data behind it. The salaries are based on self-reported data which can be good and bad. There could definitely also be some outliers if you have some really low paying salaries in the self-reported data. I use glassdoor as a good reference and compare those numbers with other sites like indeed. They're usually pretty close but you should also filter based on the wide salary variations in location, industry, and experience.

    Hi Agatha!! I'm a big fan of your videos and have been following you for a bit. I majored in marketing and have been working at a marketing agency for 2 years but I am looking to make a pivot into data analytics since the salary cap is much higher - I know this pivot can be hard as I have not learned the tools in school in order to make that direct pivot. Would I have to go back to get a masters or could I just do a BootCamp and or self teach? if you could comment or make a video on pivoting from an non STEM career to a STEM career. any advice would be so helpful :)

      Nice to meet a fellow BI Engineer :) I'm still figuring this out for myself haha but I see a few paths from here. You can move up to principal BI Engineer, continue to up skill and transition into the other data roles like data engineer, or go the management route and become manager/director/VP overseeing data and analytics. There's multiple paths and it really depends on your strengths and career goals!

      @@agathakang What are your top tips for breaking into the first role as an Analyst? I've gathered the following information:
      - Want to work in Biotech, Healthcare, Non-profit (only for starter roles)
      - Finished my Google DA Cert and taking more courses to increase my comfort with SQL and Python. I'm good with Excel and Tableau is easy to learn.
      - Goal is to become a Data Scientist or BI Engineer
      - I'm thinking a MSc down the road
      - I'm targeting remote roles from mid-level and up
      - I'd rather stay as an individual contributor
      - Reaching out to non-profits for DA volunteer opportunities. I thought that would be easy. Free labor.
      - Will start building my own portfolio this weekend. I'm aiming for 3-5 projects showcasing my skills with Excel, SQL, and Tableau
      What's your take, if you have the time and are willing to answer. Really want to make this move into tech. I've been following your content for a few months. Thank you for your work. It's clear, concise, and well-articulated.
