The title of this video is misleading to your viewers. You weren't starting with no experience. You were already working with data, but as an engineer.
Exactly! This is completety different start than for example accountant will have. This is just a little change, but she already had a lot of knowlege and experience with data, she just learn how to analyse them I guess.
I think, she misleads on this video. If you are working as a data engineer then, you do not have to start from scratch. Just to learn few skills that is all.
Thank you for posting this! I'm pivoting careers to data science and your videos are helping so much! I'd say purchasing and logistics are a great transitional career path to data science. Lots of jobs you can get in logistics without any degree that will give you experience with large data sets, ERP systems, and data tools. Great way to get your foot in the door if you're young or don't yet have professional experience.
I was an intelligence analyst in the Army, transitioned into an intelligence analyst role in the intelligence community once my contract was complete. Leveraging my experience and skills, I later pivoted into a business analyst role in the private sector. I then pivoted into a data analyst role in the public sector and finally a data science role. My path is obviously meandering and it’s taken me more than 15 years to get to this point, but, then again, I never set out to be a data scientist - at least initially. I also have no degree or certifications.
I'm not sure you came right out and said it in the video, but your story certainly supports the idea that data scientist roles are not entry level. Not only does it take a technical skillset, but it requires a level of industry knowledge and ability to manage stakeholders that you don't get from learning math/stats/coding.
@@BoltRM Agreed. This is the frustrating thing I see in a lot of courses, grad schools included. They leave out that a MSDS degree is really meant for people who have a background in analysis or industry. They also fall short on teaching how to deploy code/models to production.
@@BoltRM That's why I always say, for the professional jobs it will be always the domain/field expert who either part of their degree program will get some DS related courseworks or a separate MS in DS will actually lead the sector as data strategists. Persons with math/stat/coding background will do better for generalized fields such as walmart sales of toothpastes but these guys are not well-equipped to deal with specialized sectors. Aren't you agree?
Without experience? But you were already a data engineer, cross carpeting is not as difficult as someone coming from a non technical background.. That's what I looked forward to when I saw "without experience" in your video title
Thank you for this video. It's a bit about me. I'm at a point where I want to switch careers. Not to become a data scientist, but rather a data analyst or software engineer. Besides lacking formal education in this field, what overwhelms me is my age. I'm afraid I've found my path a bit too late. However, pursuing this path is fascinating, so either way, I'm benefiting
It’s amazing that none of these companies learned anything from the early 2000s, in particular from 2000 to 2002. When the bubble popped and all of these engineers got laid off, many of them went into different industries and gave up development altogether. Fast-forward to 2009. These same companies were screaming and crying for mid to senior level developers because they didn’t have any. Why? Because they didn’t bother to train any new ones from 2000 to 2008. The same exact thing is happening now. They don’t want to hire any entry-level developers or engineers or analyst. They want senior and principal level only. Trust me, in about six or seven years they’re going to be screaming for mid to senior level, developers, engineers, analyst, etc., and there won’t be any around.
I am really focused on working in the industry and the job market is very competitive and i can see people are way too smarter than me and i have no shame in accepting that i have joined a portfolio for data analysis apart from this i have joined the masters program in data science I believe i get right set of guideline and people like you Sundas to help me evolve in my career Thanks for the video 😊
Respectively, she didn't become a data scientist (DS) with no experience, she had over a year of it., She said how she made DS w/o experience and then explained how she got the job after a year of experience within her own company. This same scenario wouldn't work if she hadn't already worked with the company, got an opportunity for DS on-the-job training (OJT), used that OJT to build a portfolio, and presented that to the hiring manager (which still would have been a no-go if not for the DS vouching for her). I like your videos, but this doesn't help those who TRULY have NO experience other than telling them to think out of the box.
I was good in data scientist entry level and associate and while I studying mca ( 2 year) did intership in startup company as a unpaid. Is this is beneficial
Hi Sundas.I want to connect with you to share my journey as data scientists. I have basically transitioning my domain from SDE to data scientists. Please let me know how to connect with you
I talked to a Java Developer who was a Tech Lead from a company he said that it is not possible/not at all easy to move from Java Full Stack development to a data scientist/ AI Engineer is it true ? .....Sundas can you give me more of your thoughts on this because my goal is to first learn the hard skills through Java Full Stack dev and then move into as a data scientist/AI Engineer based on requirements let me know if this is possible ?
There are basically two paths to becoming a data scientist. One, get a data science degree, usuallya PhD. Two, start as a data engineer or data analyst, learn data science on the job and get promoted. A data engineer has an advantage in the second way over a data analyst because he/she is coding up the models developed by the data scientist and so is more familiar with the work.
So I'm assuming you took Data Science training from Simplilearn, right? They contact me every week asking me to enroll, but I'm a little hesitant. I'm afraid I won't be placed into a job once training is finished. The economy is in the tank right now so that's holding me back.
Mam help me , I want to be a Data Scientist too but I am unable to explain the project . I don't understand what I should say about the project to the interviewer
Who is a Data Scientist? Wikipedia : Data science is an interdisciplinary academic field that uses statistics, scientific computing, scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract or extrapolate knowledge and insights from potentially noisy, structured, or unstructured data... mmm sounds like its a mouthfull. I do a lot of some of these functions from different levels [NOT ALL]. But it sounds interesting. E.g i have done SQL for more than 20 years and still learning things like how frames are determined in window functions...
hii, i know that you are a data engineer and a data scientist . do you know how a begineer can learn AI and ML engineering . And how to land a job in this field .
not possible lol you can definitely transition from data scientist/analyst to ML engineer after 3-5 years but there are literally NO ENTRY LEVEL JOBS in AI/ML the very few that there are all of them hire only from ivy league top 10-30 school graduates only anyways Good luck tho hope we all make it
