And I love it alot can officially say I have jumped from WOW and am now a ff14 tank main.
The award for worst tank invuln easily goes to living dead and not holmgang. The short cd on holmgang is such a huge benefit and warrior has plenty of tool to heal themselves back up on their own. Meanwhile living dead is almost functionally identical to holmgang except on top of a longer cd it demands the healers get involved, and if you don't have a white mage in the party it becomes supremely annoying to heal.
I know this is old but one big plus of LD is the status lasts for 8-10 seconds and WD lasts for another 10. You don't have to worry about timing like the other tanks AND it adds 10 seconds on top of however long you have LD status. Also one nice thing is you don't have to heal to 100% just for 100% of their health. And Walking Dead doesn't end until healed for that 100%. So you can actually cheese mechanics with it like tank swap mechanics.
The problem therein becomes as that this is the only 'super cooldown' that actually requires outside support since DRKs can't even come close to the amount of healing they need to get rid of it. Brand new to tanking! Wow refugee and decided to get outta my comfort zone. Im glad to know Warrior is one of the simpler classes. It's good to start on tje easier side of things and work up to harder stuff.
I disagree on the leveling experience, up until 45 if we're comparing damage/mitigation cooldowns warrior and PLD have the same until 45 (sometimes getting them in different orders though) with the exception of PLD's shield bash, at 45, WAR is ahead because PLD getting the ultra situational "cover" but WAR gets an AoE beast gang spender and their invul, moving on through HW, PALADIN'S DAMAGE ROTATION DOESN'T CHANGE UNTIL LEVEL 60. Other then you using goring blade instead of rage of halone, nothing changes about your already super basic rotation, and the other abilities you get like divine veil and clemency you won't really be using unless you're at endgame and have a dead healer respectively, and at that point, it doesn't even matter that PLD got goring blade because WAR already got storm's eye at 50, and even after that they got fell cleave, decimate, and some much less situational mitigation. In stormblood PLD finally getting Requiescat, where I think things finally turn back but that's at level 68! PLD's leveling sucks
"Dark knight has the blackest night and nothing else." I hate it because it's true. It almost seems like all the good skills/abilities goes to Paladin and Gunbreaker. And we DRK mains only got the crumbs called "the blackest night"
Comment for the comment gods, but this is also my class in my static and my go-to for max level roulettes so I wanna say: While the damage rotation is incredibly simple, I refuse to play other tanks unless my entire party is premade (and even then I'm anxious) because too many times have I been matched with a healer whose brain is somehow smoother than mine, and subsequently died in a manner that could have been avoided entirely had I been playing Warrior. Case in point: I once had an unga-bunga healer who was the first to die in the last boss of Grand Cosmos, and since one of the DPS was low they died to the following raidwide. I then proceeded to two-man the boss from ~50% HP with my other DPS, a dancer, as I healed us both between mechanics with Nascent Flash. Conversely, I had another unga-bunga healer in Grand Cosmos (just another reason I hate that dungeon) when I was playing Gunbreaker that forced me to invuln on the second wall-to-wall between the first and second boss, and because I was missing that invuln we wiped on the second boss. It was absolutely incredible, and absolutely infuriating because I knew that would not have been a problem had I been Warrior. *TL;DR: While Warrior's rotation is smooth brain, keeping yourself alive as the healers of the world fail you will keep the wrinkles on your brain anyway.*
not 100% damage done, its a fixed 400 potency heal per gcd hit (which can be forced to crit when used with inner chaos, chaotic cyclone or primal rend)
Ok, ok, lol . . . loved this video and actually learned something too . . . so I subbed ofc. I'm interested in returning to FFXIV and see this as a good place to start, no I don't want to be a bard and sing my song of 6 pence, no I don't want to be a white mage and whirl around singing the hill are alive with music, no I don't want to a ??? and sing, sing, sing . . . strange how so many others recommend such to sprouts or returnees after a long hiatus to fill in these overly stimulating and in the current meta extremely useful roles (well white mage is always going to be useful, unless somehow the sage passes them by) come on, I don't get it . . . but the Mar/War looks like good starter fun and this time around seems just the right amount of involvement while I relearn a lot of game mechanics, so thanks for an enjoyable lesson here. Hell, even the comments here are worth reading not only for extra knowledge gut wrenching laughs too . . . what's not to like.
Some things worth noting: Your ability to get 5 FC's in your IR window WILL be dependent on your latency, therefore you need to adjust SkS to accommodate for that. There really is no "best SkS". Additionally, I think it's completely untrue to say it's the worst invuln when Living Dead exist. In fact I'd say it's the greatest simply due to it's low CD as well as lasting 8 seconds, letting it be used MUCH more often, saving other mitigation for different damage, netting a positive outcome of healing.
I loved the "wrinkles of your brain getting smoother " I have played ffxi for a very, very long time and even in that game their was a huge difference of how you tanked... even though my PLD was a tank and I was WAR dps (war/nin)
Raw intuition is also nice to pair with either rampart or vengeance for heavy hitting tankbusters (on savage and ultimates) to add mitigation. Also is the target you have while using Holmgang dies, the effect runs off which is particulary annoying in dungeons ^^ (the macro with is here to prevent that). Nice guide tho
I’m confused as to why I like Warrior so much, I mean I have always played the harder jobs, Monk in 1.0 and 2.0, Summoner at shadowbringer launch, ninja now, all my jobs have definitely been the harder jobs. But comparatively I’d say I love Warrior and Dark Knight much more than the other two tanks
I do want to preface that bare minimum sks for WAR inner release and in turn DRK night delirium/blood weapon is 2.45 gcd. I find 2.43 is perfect for low ping, for higher ping 2.41 is really good.
Nice guide! You are my favorite Warrior Teacher now! Very simple explanation and fun to watch. I have a question, how you build Warrior in terms of Materia?
Is there any disadvantage to lining up vengence, tob, and raw intuition such that they all expire at the same time, and then using shake it off right before they all do to maximize time spent w/ cd effects AND the shield? Or is this the rightbway to go about it in the first place?
I had a warrior in my trial, he kept provoking the boss every time provoke got off cd. He didnt even lost the aggro. He just provoked the boss for no reason the entire time
@@babydaddy3364 it didn't made anything any harder. He was supposed to have the aggro, he just didn't needed to provoke him. I shared this story not because it was important to share, but because it's relevant to something that happens in the video, if I remember correctly

Brand new to tanking! Wow refugee and decided to get outta my comfort zone. Im glad to know Warrior is one of the simpler classes. It's good to start on tje easier side of things and work up to harder stuff.
This guide is as close to perfect as it gets! i´m blown away thanks for that
Hey, I just came back to FF14, and all your content has been phenomenal. I hope you get bigger.
Provoke also generates enmity now so is a viable skill for pulling. Its further range helps you clump mobs together for easier overpower usage.
Thanks for the guide, I just started smoove bwaining a few days ago. :)
I think holmgang is called that because it traps the target and forces it to fight you. Kinda.
It used to make it so neither you nor the target can move (as well as pulling the enemy to you)
@@Senny_V True and real. You can still see this when older NPCs and enemies use it, as the effect was only changed for player characters.
My one wrinkle thanks you for telling me why I'm supposed to press these buttons when I press them
Finally after all this time and asking I got my guide so now I can play my class even worse now HELL YEAH.
These have to be one of the greatest job breakdown series I've ever witnessed😭💀
I really hope they remove the resource cost of Onslaught. I know I'm dumb, but it's the only reason Warr is my least played tank.
"Dark knight has the blackest night and nothing else."
I hate it because it's true. It almost seems like all the good skills/abilities goes to Paladin and Gunbreaker. And we DRK mains only got the crumbs called "the blackest night"
Reject WoL, become ANGRY Monke!
Good guide :D
*this comment made to feed the algorithm*
"relatively comparable", the BiS for gnb, drk and pld are the exact same sets. then there is warrior who fking melds tenacity
Comment for the comment gods, but this is also my class in my static and my go-to for max level roulettes so I wanna say:
While the damage rotation is incredibly simple, I refuse to play other tanks unless my entire party is premade (and even then I'm anxious) because too many times have I been matched with a healer whose brain is somehow smoother than mine, and subsequently died in a manner that could have been avoided entirely had I been playing Warrior.
New player here, in Endwalker Raw intuition is just absurd. 100% damage done as heals for 6 seconds is amazing, specially on big pulls
not 100% damage done, its a fixed 400 potency heal per gcd hit (which can be forced to crit when used with inner chaos, chaotic cyclone or primal rend)
XD Fell Cleave! Lol Great tips and video. Thank You!
I loved the "wrinkles of your brain getting smoother " I have played ffxi for a very, very long time and even in that game their was a huge difference of how you tanked... even though my PLD was a tank and I was WAR dps (war/nin)
"It's boring and simple" Excellent. My brain has tank anxiety and I don't have much room to fit anything else.
As a WAR main, I tell friends its the best tank to ease your way into the role imo
Here before the bald man eventually watches this.
I appreciate the amount of satire and non-bias for this video.
This mans is by far my favorite FF14 creator……. Nay ! My favorite smooth brain creator.
Holmgang would be a badass Fight Club name.
As a healer main I get giddy as a motherfucker when I see my tank is a WAR.
You had me at Warrior. But had me even more at Catgirls.
Warrior is the himbo job.
Himbo isn't caveman enough for true WAR play.
I've been waiting for this !!
Im confused where the Fell cleave section is and why is it not the whole video?
Loved this first video I watched
Remember vengeance gets affected by inner release too, so your counter attacks? Also crit direct hits. Lmao
NF works on it too. Become literally unkillable when you pull wall to wall.
I’m confused as to why I like Warrior so much, I mean I have always played the harder jobs, Monk in 1.0 and 2.0, Summoner at shadowbringer launch, ninja now, all my jobs have definitely been the harder jobs. But comparatively I’d say I love Warrior and Dark Knight much more than the other two tanks
keep calm and FELL CLEAVE
omg party list sorting i love you
is that a cure bot i see during your e9n run
me warrior. good content. me smash like button.
Blood for the blood lily and comments for the algorithm!
If you're here specifically for the rotations - 23:26
WAR is my fav healer
I do want to preface that bare minimum sks for WAR inner release and in turn DRK night delirium/blood weapon is 2.45 gcd. I find 2.43 is perfect for low ping, for higher ping 2.41 is really good.
IMO the best Tank for pub roulletes/content.
So that why holmgang throws a chain on the boss. Wow that pretty cool that the Devs made a chain representing the duel aspect.
24:10 had me laughing so bad xD , "FELL CLEAVE!"
Hey hey Chairman! One of Kovfefe Kween's favorite jobs here!
I was in a guild when D3 first started called Kenyan Speed, this pleases me.
it took me until this exact moment to realize that the Warrior trainer is named Curious Gorge. I've been calling him Curious George this whole time.
Should Rampart/Vengance/Thrill of Battle etc. be used seperately or simultaneously? Also great guide, hilarious too
Remember the reason why we don't need Direct hit and need skillspeed is because of how smooth our brains have become
I had a warrior in my trial, he kept provoking the boss every time provoke got off cd. He didnt even lost the aggro. He just provoked the boss for no reason the entire time
He may have played FFXI, as that's basically how it worked then.
@@babydaddy3364 it didn't made anything any harder. He was supposed to have the aggro, he just didn't needed to provoke him. I shared this story not because it was important to share, but because it's relevant to something that happens in the video, if I remember correctly
@@leif3150 As a new warrior tank ffxiv I fat finger provoke all the time =.=
Idk if we wanna be this complex but if you use Vengeance under Inner Release all of it's tiny procs are crit directs.
Perfect for trash packs
Hey! Nice guide, the segment about big aoe heal really made me want get back at WAR and bring it to 80 (currently 70) ^^ I was meaning to ask, what's that amazing body glam you are using at the beginning? The one with the cape, i'd like that for myself
My main tank is warrior. As note I love Fell Cleave and very angry Fell Cleave.
Also spinny Fell Cleave and very angry spinny Fell Cleave.
When you use holmgang as a last resort during pulls because you f'up and the mob you targeted dies, you just want to contemplate your life choices.
“the bare minimum recast time is 2.42”
laughs in 2.43
I play with 2.45 to get the max amount of stats from gear in :P
So the warrior is some kind of forgotten god of destruction? I chose my starting class well.
I have noticed I almost never see fellow warriors around though. I was beginning to think I made a mistake or something.
Warrior is never a mistake. Other tanks saying it’s too simple while managing to not actually properly use their rotations on PLD or GNB however, they are mistakes.
Hi. WAR main here. I can easily 5 felcleave in Inner Release with 2.43s gcd. Guess I'm cracked. 🤪
i...didnt know the shake it off with cooldowns buff....double legend slow war main btw LOL i will remember this for final phase of TEA...it might help maybe perhaps a little probably
If I wasn't so afraid of tanking, warrior would probably be my main
I was playing back in Heaven's ward and I will say the only time I thought about macros was having one to countdown when Holmgang buff is wearing off.
Just cause I was in a group with a WHM and BRD duo that kicked me cause the healer went oom when I did a wall to wall pull bring 4 - 5 groups spamming heal when Holmgang was up.
Holmgang used to originally lock warrior and its target in place. Therefore holmgang = a duel.
Still does that in pvp pulls the enemy to you, so you can best them up
My static before we became static is 8 tanks and 6 warriors...
I am the formal pistol man that got forced to play WAR
