2.08 gcd solves so much of the discussion around 29:00 and is very beginner friendly for anyone interested in a rotation where you're not constantly more and more behind
@@iPlayOnSpicathis is true, it is an investment! The purported DPS gain from 2.14 is not worth it though, 200 in *ideal* scenario where you *perfectly* adapt to constantly being behind on your dot refresh.. it's just not realistic, and what you get with 2.08 feels like a great tradeoff.
@@hmm_norah imo both have their place, 2.08 is beginner friendly but more rigid just like Shadowbringers samurai, it also naturally loops every 2min. While with 2.14 every 2mins you become 2gcd behind for your next dot refresh for extra damage like you said, but to avoid drifting your dot it teaches people who are trying to learn more samurai a slightly more advanced concept which is called Meikyo Acceleration or in this case the Meikyo Acceleration Loop(MAL). If the player were to look more into the MAL from the 7.05 sam Doc or the Balance after learning their 6min loop they would be able to apply what they learned from the 2.14 rotation which includes the Standard Burst(1 & 2min hingan realignment), 2 GCD deviation(3 & 4min), and the 4 GCD deviation(5 & 6min). Then you would start to base your rotation off of how much time is left on your dot after you use a second Midare. Based off my understanding of Current DT Sam, the con of 2.14 is that your rotation starts to unravel itself from the rigid loop of 2 mins, due to your dot becoming late. This actually becomes your strongest tool as a samurai player because it forces you to utilize your skills to keep everything aligned in a very flexible and fluid way. You start off following a formula of Samurai(2.08). Then as you get better you start back from the beginning to rebuild yourself(2.14) and from the unraveled rotation of your DoT drifting, you weave it back into a more flexible form of samurai through the fundamentals of samurai you learned from 2.08 and the new concepts of 2.14 which then allows you to adjust on the fly and create your own version of samurai which is not stuck to the rigid 2.08 loop formula. I think samurai is so awesome right now, but I will always have a place in my heart for the missing Kaiten
That discussion of tsubame at the beginning reminds me of the addition of flarestar on blackmage, which in contrast to the removal of the restriction of tsubame is a decision everyone hates. Simultaneously increases the skill floor (you drop 1 fire IV and you throw 720 potency down the drain) and reduce skill ceiling (non standard found dead in a ditch). Just like with tsubame good players already had good uptime and didn't drop casts, so the new players were hurt the most
Same thing happened to MNK with the change to a ball-based experience. Higher skill floor (you lose a fifth of your potency from a misinput), lower skill ceiling (WE LOVE OPOROT).
Flare star is just so rigid which makes it unfun. If astral souls didnt drop off during umbral ice it would be so much more fun to have, EW BLM was loved because the movement restrictions were balanced by a more open rotation, switching to umbral ice to readjust wasnt a massive damage loss, now due to flare star it is and it makes a job with low movement now also have the most punishing rotation.
@@AOffensiveJoke they just needed to make it so it gains more power the more umbral hearts you have, but is still castable at below 6. Would remove all the clunkyness from it (except for being used at a specific point in the rotation but that's whatever). You would still be rewarded for not dropping casts with the higher potency, but you won't feel as terrible about it as losing the entire thing if you did drop a cast. A lot of the DT changes are almost really good. If thunderhead was the equivalent of T3P from previous expansions all the hate for it would be gone, at worst people would be neutral towards the change. Like flarestar "you can't use it unless you meet the conditions" is universally despised. The MP change was a long time coming, made mana tick trackers irrelevant which is good, removed waiting for mana under 90 which is good, removed getting bad ticks under leylines with a sps build which is good, forced them to move umbral soul to 35 which is good. The only problem is it near completely killed non standard, which was probably part of the design intention but could've been avoided if it triggered based on "non-fire spells" instead of "ice spells"
@@tcoren1 I think there are multiple different ways to fix flare star, whether it's how you described where you can use it at lower astral souls for lower damage or if souls only drop off of timer but fundamentally it boils down to "Black mage needs an open rotation." For the other changes I'm way more so-so on them, I think the new dot system is dumb and would have preferred if they just made thunderhead more guaranteed on changing elements just so double thunder on two mobs doesn't require transpose. Congrats on 100k! I remember watching you when you were a young chair! How about for your 100k video you don't sound so apathetic about everything for a video or something! :P Here is to 200k! keep up the good work.
the moment i actually tried the changes out, i realized this kind of puts "bring back Kaiten" to rest once and for all, well played sqex. i also knew Chair would have things to say about it! waiting for that Drk rework to shut the "Bring back Dark Arts" people up
Continue doing you, you big nerd. The next threshold is almost an impossibility in it's reach so it may treat you better to not worry about it and do what you like.
They changed most classes that get a set amount of gauge from a CD into just having that ability ready like Machinist and Red Mage, they should just make it so Ikishoten doesn't give you any Kenki and just makes you Zanshin Ready and lets you use it
I never have been able to play SAM well. I'm ok at DRG and VPR is pretty much impossible to screw up, so those are my 2 goto DPS jobs for DT. But then again I'm a tank main so very rarely do I ever go straight DPS. Also, I love the MCH using flamethrower during M4S downtime. Someone finally found a use for it.
Always counting on Chair to elevate my mediocre gameplay as much as possible without tipping over into try hard nonsense. I decided to give the job a try again after the .05 changes and I have to say I’m liking it a lot. Always been a fan of low/no responsibilities and that’s why I play Reaper, Viper, Machinist and Black Mage; it was only a matter of time before I’d become one with the katana as well.
Correct: I have nothing better to listen to. How did you know? I missed these videos. I'll be unironically revisiting the mediocre Mahjong guide so i can try not to rage quit that next time. Thanks for the video!
Loved the special cameo! Was not expecting the joining of chair and true mentor

Congrats on 100k! I remember watching you when you were a young chair! How about for your 100k video you don't sound so apathetic about everything for a video or something! :P Here is to 200k! keep up the good work.
Hell! It's about time!!!!!
OMG WESKALBER my two favorite FFXIV contents 😭😭😭
yes, yes, we missed you.
the moment i actually tried the changes out, i realized this kind of puts "bring back Kaiten" to rest once and for all, well played sqex. i also knew Chair would have things to say about it! waiting for that Drk rework to shut the "Bring back Dark Arts" people up
Continue doing you, you big nerd. The next threshold is almost an impossibility in it's reach so it may treat you better to not worry about it and do what you like.
Yay Chair vid!
I just love the change cause i get to double tap that big finisher or save that 2nd tap to open burst... MOAR FUNNNNN
24:40 oooh, that's very nice!
One has to respect the commitment to being true to oneself instead of chasing the algorithm.
They changed most classes that get a set amount of gauge from a CD into just having that ability ready like Machinist and Red Mage, they should just make it so Ikishoten doesn't give you any Kenki and just makes you Zanshin Ready and lets you use it
I have never played Samurai
Im a White Mage Main
When I DPS I play casters
It's 3:00 AM
Why did I watch a 40 minute guide on Samurai
10/10 great video
I smell a trails video in the future. hope you cover the GOAT that is Rean....haha....
As somewhat a new player, i usually do Moon---flowers---Ice - Then followed by the funner buttons, then repeat.
Whoa whoa whoa whoa.
Is this a classic misshapen chair job guide video with actual helpful tips for mediocrity?
I never have been able to play SAM well. I'm ok at DRG and VPR is pretty much impossible to screw up, so those are my 2 goto DPS jobs for DT. But then again I'm a tank main so very rarely do I ever go straight DPS. Also, I love the MCH using flamethrower during M4S downtime. Someone finally found a use for it.
Always counting on Chair to elevate my mediocre gameplay as much as possible without tipping over into try hard nonsense.
I decided to give the job a try again after the .05 changes and I have to say I’m liking it a lot. Always been a fan of low/no responsibilities and that’s why I play Reaper, Viper, Machinist and Black Mage; it was only
a matter of time before I’d become one with the katana as well.
IM TSOOBING
IM GONNA TSOOB
AAAAAHHHHH
I love you no matter what.
Correct: I have nothing better to listen to. How did you know?
I missed these videos. I'll be unironically revisiting the mediocre Mahjong guide so i can try not to rage quit that next time. Thanks for the video!
While misshapen chair was making videos, he studied the blade
9:00
UnFATHOMABLY based.
I love it when you speak kenki to me.
Mr Chain Man, this was a great video. Why is the Resident Evil guy here tho
i raided with SAM in 6.0 and as a dedicated looper i can say that the change to tsubame has been the bane of my existence
So did Cassius give up the blade because Square Enix removed Kaiten?
PREACH!!!
Chair man is back, woohoo 🎉
Yes another chair video
weskalber cameo??? wasn't expecting that!
What's the game at 7:56 ?
Trails through daybreak
I love your videos Chair!
Surprise appearance! 😮
omg chair back
What game is that at 7:53?
never expected the wesk alber collab
Kiseki music? Shizuna? Rean? Are you gonna drop a video on the series?
Outro song name pls?
Yo is that a Crossbell needle drop for the intro, incredible
Oh yeah if I'd checked the pinned I'd have seen it lmao. Still based.
Every time "Kenki" is said, my brain hears "Kinky"
Holy shit was that guidemaker extraordinaire, Wesk Alber????
What? I love tsubamae gaeshi!
Can’t wait for 7.08 when SE will change the way SAM plays (again)
