Why did the Hawks give up on Cam Reddish?

The Atlanta Hawks traded Cam Reddish and the reaction was bad for Trae Young’s team. Everyone is saying the Knicks easily won the trade for acquiring a 22 year old 10th overall pick for a heavily protected first. This is a look at why the trade is actually one of the most interesting deals we’ve seen in a long time.

Hey so as a Hawks fan I heard about this and was like WHAT so I’ll explain Cam already had requested a trade out of Atlanta months ago because he didn’t think he could be what he believes he’s can be in Atlanta. Hawks just wanted a first round pick they turned down multiple offered that has included 2nd round picks.

Yah Casey I really didn't get this trade unless it is to bring Zion to the New York Knicks. RJ, Cam, and Zion all played at Duke together. I mean the Knicks did get the better part of the trade I would rather have Cam at the wing than Knox who has been irrelevant tbh, plus Cam is better than Knox but I do agree with you on this trade just didn't really make any sense at all? Yah and the Hawks might have some bigger trades to come like you said John Collins for Jerami Grant that then would make some sense like you said. Thanks for the video my friend.

As an Atl fan… thanks for the vid Casey. I’m not big on acquiring Simmons, I would much rather Grant. A JC for Grant trade almost seems like a wash. Grant I see is a minor upgrade over Collins and I’m not sure that moves the needle the way the Hawks need it to… because yes… we’re bad on defense currently and it’s costing us wins.

Love the analysis. GM Travis was actually in the room when Draymond Green was drafted - and Trey Young would benefit tremendously having the Draymond Green-role played by Ben Simmons. I also think the Atlanta coach - needs to be changed (playoff run was a one-off) as well. Doc Rivers doesn't get enough criticism for the Atlanta Series Debacle as an old school playoff coach. A ball movement type coach like the Spurs or Warriors systems - would be a better fit. Jerami Grant - is a great fit too.

Reddish thinks he's a star and plays his game like he's a star, yet in reality he's a poor shooter with little else to offer. His inflated ego got him booted off Atlanta and now the Knicks. He needs to learn how to be a role player and accept that if he wants to have a career in the NBA beyond the next few seasons.

You were almost right in your prediction with how Thibs handled Reddish. Instead giving Reddish a role that he didn't want, Thibs just gave Reddish no role at all.
And in a way, the Knicks still won the trade. Reddishs only real meaningful contribution to the Knicks was being used as a pawn to get Josh Hart who is a way better fit on the Knicks and has been really great for them.

Spurs fan here. We have a guy like that named Bryn Forbes. BUT he’s 6-1 and hustles his ass off before getting burned on the perimeter. Summons every bit of his limited talent every trip down the floor, so we forgive - and sometimes even praise - his defensive effort.
Cam’s 6-8 with extended reach. No excuses for him. Not at all surprised if Nate McMillan had little patience for that kind of defensive play. Wait til Thibs gets ahold of him.

Okongwu hasn't been available until recently so he was playing with really bad players, this ruins your plus minus. The injuries have plagued him as well. I hope you don't eat your words when he goes to NY.
When Cam wasn't coming off the bench getting 4 min spurts, he did well. Also this year he didn't want to be with the Hawks but yes, if they don't play him in NYK, he will be frustrated.

    Interesting video.
Nice to see the stats behind cam because the eye test can fool the casuals. To be clear I still think they sold too low and too soon on cam. At worst they let him go for nothing and see what he turns into. You could even sign and trade him after next year to a team that wants him but doesn’t have salary space.
I personally like the grant idea mainly because it’s a better fit than Simmons, cheaper contract and cheaper price to acquire.
I don’t like Casey’s price on the guy though. I honestly don’t think grant is gonna fetch that much seeing that he’s almost a free agent and he’s maybe a borderline all star at best.
If you look around the league most of the contenders who are a grant away from being real contenders either don’t have the matching salaries, the prospects, or the draft picks to make a deal happen.
The best trade I’ve seen is bulls trading coby white and Patrick Williams and bulls probably aren’t giving up Patrick Williams. What other team has a good young prospect and a matching salary or picks to get grant.
Hawks have a few picks and salaries to match. IMO I like a different type of trade. Keep Collins. Trade them Gallo to match and okonwu with one pick. Pistons would take that because they get a good young player to fit their timeline.
Hawks get out of gallos contract so they don’t have to eat 5 mill next year plus they get a more sure thing on both ends. At worst 2 picks get that done.
Okonwu is a nice player who has a lot of potential

Not remotely comparable to a guy who was flat out bad his rookie year and apocalyptic in terms of efficiency his second year. He was bad to mediocre his third year. An improvement, but onlu cause there wasn't much lower to go.
And before you bring in another common comparison, Paul George:
PG was low volume and raw, but sthill had an over 50% eFG% which Cam has never done. He was also an impact defender with a good DBPM which, again, Cam has never been. And that was his rookie season, he improved significantly every year after that.

Are you looking for the Truth? We can’t have our own truth, that is what we call opinion. Jesus said, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. In other words; follow His way, which is true, and you will have life. We all yearn for what is true in some degree. Here is what truth does according to the Bible, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free (Bible verse: John-8:32).” Seek Jesus and you will find Truth.

"Growing into an all star." The exact hyperbole comment I expect from a Hawks fan, dude had awful efficiency, terrible defense, bad decision making, terrible shooting nights, we gave the guy 20 minutes a night and he showed us nothing but empty stats, 30 point games don't matter when you lose by 10. Cam never proved his worth yet he had the nerve to ask for a trade cause he wasn't getting the minutes he wanted? Glad the egotistical locker room cancer is gone. Now the Knicks are witnessing his poor performance first hand, forcing shots, turnovers, etc.

The Knicks just made sure that they have the 2 best friends of Zion Williams and now have the Lure needed to convince Zion to walk away from the Pelicans and their rookie max extension and sign with New York
I know Jeremy Grant is playing at a high level but the Hawks won't want to send multiple 1st round picks with Collins for Grant. They still have a higher value on Collins. People are saying KCP for Collins but I would say Sabonis for Collins would be better than that but all of these guys being made available could backfire because testing to see their value may make the players mad and hurt their value .
