I feel like shao/ Frost is CRIMINALLY underrated. Having the freeze on a low has won me dozens of games just on its own, and it's a great conditioning tool. I haven't worked out how to use the high-floating freeze ball, but Shao can definitely create the kinds of opening it needs too.
On a more serious note though. I think Motaro is becoming criminally underrated for Shao. Considering that only Him, Darrius, and Lao give Shao the OH combo - he has the best neutral assist out of the 3 by far, even though it costs 2 bars. Low hat does not compete with the Motaro projectiles in neutral if used correctly. Yes holding low hat gives him mix, but he has mix already, and Motaro threatening 33+ % each overhead is enough reason for them to fear the mix. On top of that he reflects projectiles on reaction if need be which competes slightly (not as good obviously) with the sub assist. He helps make your armored wakeups very gimmicky. And maybe most importantly he gives you all kinds of fatal blow combos you wouldn't normally have - extending your fatal blow damage percent well into the high 40s or low 50s. And lets not forget that Motaro also has a low projectile for mix in strings as well and it gives decent oki and is plus on block. Definitely don't understand running Sub or Sareena over Lao/Motaro.

I think Lao is better than Motaro just because Low Hat has like no cooldown. If you could spam motaros assist like Lao, I would agree, even with the 5% health cut.
Sektor missle also lets's you combo of both overhead and low safely. Although I think it's pointless. Just pick goro and do ex powerslam>ambush aand you're +30 on block. You can just get the stance overhead. The only thing I like about Motaro with Shao is that the turret assist let's you combo of the command grab

If you do his air combo it special cancels into the knee and actually doesn't have as much gravity and is more consistent than trying to land 2 2 and is pretty close in damage
@247365spy so if you do his full air combo 1 2 2 you can cancel it into down back 3 it doesn't always hit but it will do more damage and more damage than 1 2 in the air into 2 2 on the ground into downback 3. And when you go too thrown the axe down to complete the combo you will have less gravity so you can make the combo a little longer

Any advice on the timing of getting his B3 to hit on time after he gets popped up from slamming the ground with the axe for the combo at 3:30? I find it so hard to time. I’m always too late and the only way I’ve found to hit that part of the combo is by mashing and hoping it connects.
Hey man, nice guide! Just to let you know, if you land back 2 close, you can do a back micro dash into another back 2. Alot easier to land than you optimal 👍
I think sektor is a good kameo for shao, you don't get to full combo off the overhead but but he really helps with the wake up game. after every DB3 with sektor neutral cameo, you can force the opponent to block the incoming mixup from there wakeup. you can even force a high low mixup on there wakeup that can full combo if you have a full kameo bar. I think a good player like yourself can explore more options with sektor so i suggest you have a look at him.

I was using motaro but I swapped to goro, raise the roof is plus on block, can use it on Shaos over head (does not combo but jails them) goros low grab (dead weight) is an excellent mix up on Shaos strings and can full combo. Also works to put them back in the corner off Shaos (direct order string). I’ll stick to goro as the pressure I’m now able to maintain on an opponent rather than motaro is exponential. Highly suggest you lab him.
