A nice upgrade to the Plano cases is to run a strip of 5/16” EPDM adhesive back weather strip in the groove of the lid where it seals to the case. If you cut it to slightly overlap, it will compress down into a very good seal. I’ve been using them this way for a long time, run them on a roof rack in the rain and it makes them very watertight.

I exclusively use both the Apache and the Rigid boxes. They’re very tough, water proof and inexpensive. Two thumbs up.

I have been impressed with both as well. The rigid boxes have served me well for years. I was using pelicans for the past 20 years (back then there wasn't anything else really) but the apache is very good and I will be getting more of those as the need arises. Thanks for watching!!!

Thanks. Great review. Love those Apache cases, seem to do as good as my Pelican in 90% of my needs. Wouldn’t use them for a military air drop but great for preparedness, hunting and most other things. Thanks again!

Does the nasty chemical smell on the Ridged cases ever fade?

    300 bucks and it’s uneven

You mean the table is uneven?

the pelican cases have some give to the lid because they are so long. The table is a little bowed in the middle with out weight on it. It was not 300 dollars, it was I think 40$ at Walmart.

So what was the modification plans for the Apache case? Did you get that finished?

That's a great question!! I had plans to mount that case to the side of the adventure rack on my Jeep. I was going to put some struts or cables on the lid such that it would open to a horizontal position as a kind of shelf. Then I had plans to put some partitions in the case to hold recovery gear, tools, etc. My better half did not like that idea as she drives the jeep to work sometimes and didn't like the idea of a rifle case attached to the side of the jeep. So... I bought a ROAM case and put it on the top of the rack instead. The ROAM case and the mount system they have is fantastic but expensive. Thanks so much for watching and thanks for the question.
