Nice one, ZWO. This is a great time to be starting out in our awesome hobby. It's great to have a company building a whole ecosystem of devices taking us forward instead of the old ways.
I hope this camera isn't plagued by the sensor paste bleed issues that befell the 2600 and you failed to own up to until imagers got fed up with your denial.

great job.. just ordered the asiair plus 256 today while picking up a 220mm mini, and asked my local shop to put an order for the AM3 in once that's possible.. that's going to be an ultra-portable setup that'll give my FSQ85/M-Zero setup a run for its money ;)
btw, at 1:54 he says "as small as two nanometers", while the wording states 2um (micrometers)..
I caught that mistake too, 2 nanometers = 0.002 microns...that's even tighter than an FSQ 106 !

would be cool if ZWO came out with starter packages. For people who want to start but don't know what accessories go with which. For example with these new products that could be one package for those who can afford it of course lol. I would certainly buy one in a heartbeat if it was offered

why not price the AM3 at $1k and dominate the portable mount market? The price per payload value is not there compared to smaller mounts or larger mounts at the same price range. It's honestly baffling.

just ordered the Seestar. I've been just using my smartphone on a flimsy tripod, so it will be a nice upgrade.
We would love to see an AM1 mount may be ultra portable for DSLR setup, a harmonic mount with no counter weights can be very useful for travel photographers interested in tracked Milky-way and DSO shots from dark sky sites.
Any plans for that ?
How do you rotate the guide sensor without rotating the main imaging sensor? Very often, I want a very specific framing of my image target.
When did you ever need to rotate your guide camera? You will just have to re-calibrate PHD2 every time you rotate the main camera.
@@Nabby13 At high focal lengths with an OAG, it can be difficult to find suitable guide stars. So you rotate the OAG to search for a good guide star.
With the duo, rotating the whole camera would be necessary if no suitable guiding star can be found.

what amount of light loss would you get when using narrowband filters *compared* to a separate guide camera on a scope or OAG?

Let's hope the customer service is better than with the 2600 oil leak problem I think lots of people will still hesitate before spending large amounts of money with this company, because of the way that problem was delt with

Meanwhile AM5 users are still waiting for a past beyond-zenith flip capable driver. I hope ZWO has added new staff to deal with the inevitable issues this new gear will bring and get the old gear running well.
Not sure how that ASI2600MC Duo is supposed to work with narrowband filters in front of it blocking most of the light of the guide stars. Is this a broadband-only camera?
They say it will work with 7nm narrowband. Be more of a challenge with 3nm, May depend on the target. I’ll look forward to hearing the reviews on this point. Nice to be able to get rid of OAG, though
It's a OSC camera so you'll have at least a duo band, plus just crank up the gain.

Noticed he said a narrowband filter of 7nm with GOOD sky? The astro community is going more and more towards 5nm and lower. Good luck finding a guiding star with that guide sensor......

Yeah… BUT UNFORTUNATELY this rigs ( or at least the basic ones ) rely on a super over priced AM3 🤦🏻♂️
When this was announced, I truly believed that its to be competing with Sky Watcher GTI & iOptron Hunter - all of these sorts in this category… What a GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT to see its double the price of the items mentioned above, and not even, or just a third of price reduction from the AM5.
To he honest, only ppl who have nothing to else to do with their money would buy this, - just for fun or: COLLECTING ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY GEAR - other wise, this js just a waste of money at its current price compared with competition- it JUST DOESN’T FIT ANYWHERE 😔🤦🏻♂️😓
