  • After staying in Vietnam for exactly 3 months, it was time to do a visa run to renew our tourist visa's. We chose the cheapest option, which is to hop on a bus from Ho Chi Minh City and drive 2+ hours to the Vietnam-Cambodia border (Moc Bai). We booked our tickets through Giant Ibis, who were very good, overall. We are very happy we chose them over going on the 703 bus as they took care of everything at the border, which was a massive stress-reliever.
    Here is the link to the Gian Ibis website if you want to book with them: www.giantibis....

    Taking the 703 bus to Moc Bai isn't the best experience either. Not a very comfortable experience, NOT AT ALL. However, it doesn't leave you too far away from the border. Just the Xe Om guys there hustling you can be a bit irritating. Also, there will be guys there that'll help you out with processing your visa but don't flash too much cash as prices suddenly have a habit of magically doubling when this happens.
    Going with Giant Ibis is a much better option.

    • @RhettandClaire
      @RhettandClaire  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bryce Arnold hey, Bryce, thanks for the comment. We agree. The 703 isn’t the most comfortable but it does get the job done. That’s why we think doing it this way (Giant Ibis there and 703 back) works out pretty well. You can avoid being hassled and then just walk back to 703 and get a cheap ride. They don’t hassle you at all on the way out😄

    Thanks for taking the time to document your experience, super helpful! Where did you get your visa invitation? Everywhere I look online it insists you can only do visa on arrival via airports?! >_< Am I just missing something painfully obvious? Cheers!

    Could've just rented a motorbike for 7$ back then, maybe 15$ today and drove yourself. 70km at 5am is 90 min and no traffic. Paid parking 5 to 10k and still arrived by the time the border opens and gotten through all crossing in understand an hour.
    I mean if you're making a video on the fastest/cheapest you might as well figure out what is actually the fastest/cheapest.

    Your video was informative and helpful. My question and confusion is: How many times can you keep doing a visa run ? Can we work in Vietnam on a business visa and keep doing a visa run every 3 months ? How long can we keep doing this ? Will doing so many visa runs make the immigration authorities suspicious ? If i intend to work in Vietnam for a period of 2 years, can i keep doing a visa run every 3 months ?

    • @RhettandClaire
      @RhettandClaire  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      UTI KASH hey there. There is no limit to the number of times you can visit a country. There are people who have been doing this for many years. If you get a business visa or a work visa, you won’t need to do a visa run at all though because your employer should sponsor your work permit. Only the tourist visa requires you to leave every 3 months.

    What was the total cost of this visa run per person, please? Cost of invitation letter (?usd) + Giant Ibis bus to border (?k) + Cambodian visa (30usd?) + Vietnam 3 month single entry visa stamp (25usd) + bus 703 back to HCMC (40k). Just did the run using an all-inclusive service, and wanted to compare as we had to wait close to an hour and a half just for the re-entry visa on arrival, even though we were literally the 1st group there (9 people) and the place was deserted. Then the herd came in and many got their visas before us. Maybe their service didn't give enough "coffee money" to the customs officer, or the young agent spent too much time on her phone instead of making sure things were getting done ;)

    • @RhettandClaire
      @RhettandClaire  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there,
      Cost of invitation letter - $25
      Giant Ibis bus to border - $18 +$2 (paid on bus)
      Cambodian visa - $30
      The rest of the prices you have already noted. Our total cost was $102 per person.
      We waited about 20 minutes for our single entry to be processed. Not sure why yours took so long! We paid no coffee money at all. The border control lady was miserable as hell but did get the job done.

    Imagine doing that every 90 days for years. So tedious. Not to mention filling up your passport.

    • @RhettandClaire
      @RhettandClaire  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Craig, you’re right, it does have its downsides. Most digital nomads would rather take the opportunity to fly to a new country and spend a week or so there. That way it’s like taking a vacation every 3 months. Of course that’s dependent on finances. Hopefully in the future we can also afford to do it that way instead of just going in an out. Regardless, this option certainly is the cheapest and quickest 😊

      Hi Kiki, you are able to obtain a visa on arrival letter from within Vietnam by using a visa agent. There are many people who offer this service. We used Chi's Cafe in Bui Vien, Saigon. The owner can arrange visa approval letters for you within 5 days:) You are then able to use at a land border crossing such as Moc Bai:)

I using giant ibis too :) so to confirm they point me in the right direction where to go and all i need to get into cambodia and back is my invitation letter, passport photos, exit stamp coming back from cambodia (is this easy to find/obtain?) dollars and my passport itself. Everything else is just a matter of finding where/who i give these things to?
