  • Join me on call in the hospital for a day in the life of a doctor! Find out what it's like to manage a patient who is actively having a heart attack in the middle of the night!!
    DO YOU WHAT TO BE IN A VIOLIN MD VIDEO?!?
    1. Answer the question "what do doctors do that annoys you as a patient?"
    2. Make a video of you answering the question (less than 1 minute, ideally 20-30 seconds)
    3. Upload to TH-cam as "unlisted" (not available to the public, only people with the link can view it 🙈)
    4. Email me the link at theviolinmd@gmail.com
    5. Include your first name and the country you live in
    Deadline: July 1st, 2018
    This video will be similar to "Do Doctors Annoy Nurses", so take a look to have an idea what I'm going for!
    • DO DOCTORS ANNOY NURSE...
    I look forward to hearing from you!! 🤗
    Thanks for watching and I hope you have a great week!

      Can’t make a video but I hate when I make a appointment for the doctor and they arrive to 30 minutes late while rushing the entire appointment. They won’t even listen to anything I say!

    Her smile is perfect for being a doctor. Other than it being a beautiful smile it's also calming and reassuring. I think her face in general shows that she's a very caring person who loves being a doctor and is thrilled to be able to help someone in need. Personally if i was waiting for doctor, (which means I'm not having the best of days) and she walked in it would definitely brighten up my day. Even if it's only slightly it's a big deal because in those types of situation positivity goes a long way. It's great to see doctors like her, I've witnessed several times where doctors just seem careless and is only there to collect a paycheck. Some doctor are so bad they couldn't pick out a patient from a line up even if they checked out that patient less than an hour ago. All because they spend more time looking at the charts and whatnot without consulting with the patient.

      My mom had a heart attack 4ish years ago and I thought nothing of it because her complications were so minor. I didn't realize how lucky she was until my manager 3 years later had 4 heart attacks in succession. 3 mild followed by one MAJOR one. Because my dad brought my mom in immediately (despite my mom saying she's fine) she got out on meds and it fixed the heart attack and prevented others and didn't even need a stint. Thinking about how she probably would've died if my dad hadn't done something (because she wouldn't have tried to go until it was too late, I know it) is scary. I'm so grateful your dad was able to survive with an amazing team of doctors. They really do save lives

    I now have celiac disease and it all started with abdominal pain and upset stomach’s etc. The doctors refused to see me, and it got to the point where I was screaming in pain on the toilet and didn’t know. I had a blood test in the end because I decided I wanted one, just confused at why they hadn’t thought of it. Now I’ve ruined my small intestine lining. And I’m so glad we have doctors like you! Keep doing what you do - your saving lives, I’d love to be seen by you :)

This gives me so much insight into why the doctor hasn't called me back. I also love that you have mentioned the handwriting of dr. orders. that makes me so happy. We should never be aloud to practice in an unsafe way. There is no excuse for not writing well. Anything preventable should be policy, for everyone. Thank you I love these vlogs

    I don’t want to be in the video, but one thing doctors do that I don’t like as a patient is when they come into your room when you are in the hospital and you are totally out of it and not feeling well and on medications that make you loopy and they don’t introduce themselves to tell you who they are and they don’t tell you what is going on/how they plan to treat you. They just make you wait around all day for them wondering what is going on and when they are going to come and see you. I also don’t like when doctors are arrogant and are not relatable to their patients.

    • @kyekane7658
      @kyekane7658 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Katherine Brenner I volunteer at a hospital and we actually have a procedure in place to make patients feel less anxiety where we basically knock, introduce ourselves, why we're there etc. even for small tasks like bringing them a bottle of water.

    • @TheCloverKelly
      @TheCloverKelly 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Katherine Brenner doctors have more important things to do than formalities, im not sure if this is the case in the us but the doctor to patient ratio is unreal, its difficult for a doctor to handle so many requests and needs and complaints! i was an intern at a public hospital once, it angers me how some patients think doctors and nurses are only there to serve them

    • @kyekane7658
      @kyekane7658 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Kelpo yeah patients can be very demanding to doctors and nurses but even just knocking before entering the room can help, it may not seem like much but it can reduce stress which is important for healing

    I hate when a doctor thinks they know more about a disease I've had for years because of what they were just taught in school which contradicts my own experience especially when they have never seen a patient with that condition. It's like how could they think they know better than a paitent. I think drs need to approach each patient as if they are going to learn some thing or write a paper from what they learn as opposed to a bistow their previous all knowing knowledge. I learn new things every time i read a medical case from new symptoms to new solutions or diseases that may be connected or come together with the original. I guess my point is to be a student of medicine rather than assuming they are the all knowing teacher.

      I have to agree not all doctors but most. I have at 38 pretty bad arthritis and fibromyalgia and my experience is I’m told “ your to young for arthritis” really apparently not because I have it...next my least favourite “learn to live with it” or just exercise when some days it’s a struggle just to do what I need to do and loss weight you will be fine, but than I’m given meds that don’t work, with terrible side effects and make me gain weight....

This kind of career would just make me go insane. You couldn't pay me enough. I'm glad I can still help people though, even if it's in a hands off way. Good on you for your hard work! This happened to my dad recently. Where he lives the main hospital has underground tunnels connecting to other speciality buildings, including a cardiac research centre. The doctors were able to rush him from the ER to the Cardiac centre in minutes and clear the blockage. I’ve never been SO, SO, SO grateful for all these amazing doctors AND nurses! They took such amazing care of not only him but also those of us who were 18 hours away. They made sure he had the best care and kept us up to date the entire time.

      First year canadian residents get 50-55K/year for the regular work week hours (for the supposed 40 hours per week we regularly work...we actually tend to work several unpaid hours on top of that). You only get about 100-120 dollars (depending on where you live in canada) for each call shift that you do (so that is $4-8 dollars per hour depending on if it is just 5pm-10am or on weekends it would be about 26 hours for $100 total). For example, this week I worked 98 hours and I got paid about $30/hr for 37.5 hours plus got $5/hour for the 45 hours of call that I did (200 dollars for 45 hours) and then I worked an extra 15 hours that were totally unpaid. Resident life is not properly compensated as you don't get paid for all of your hours. Some residents work 40 hours per week and some 100 and they make a similar amount of money. We have a lot of responsibility and don't get breaks or half of our weekends off so it is a crazy life for sure.

    • @tigermason7624

      They deserve so much more than what they get paid. It seems that Canada and US really underpay their staff.

      Happens all the time. "Family is here and wants an update"... at 2am! Or RN reading daily progress notes in middle of the night, "I just want to clarify what the plan is." Or "Patient hasn't had any urine output in 7 hours..." usually because they have been asleep and don't have a foley.
