Hi Benat! Thanks for sharing... you have your own very unique understanding of the hospital system and in many ways i'm sorry to hear that (wish you didn't have to go through this). Great to have you here in the community!

roast beef Alcohol is mainly metabolized by the liver, not the kidney. Also, one kidney can easily do the work of both kidneys as long as it is healthy :)

My mum actually had a kidney transplant once! I’m so happy that I get to use your channel to educate myself on the system she went through when she was unwell
Thank you for this video. As a 2013 Heart Transplant recipient and transplant educator I’m always thrilled to get more information. You sharing this story with your influence will definitely be a positive thing for organ donation. Thank you for all you do.
Hi Siobhan I’m Natalie. I’m turning 12 in a week (April 29) I want to be a doctor (more specifically a ER physician in the Alberta children’s hospital) and I discovered your videos about a month ago and I can’t stop watching them! I love that your Canadian because I am too! Love from Calgary, Alberta
Stop discouraging Natalie! If she wants to be a doctor, *encourage her dreams* rather than tearing it down because all you’ve chosen to focus on is the negatives on the medical world.
I knew all the transplant trivia cause I got one at 10 months old. Fun fact: mine were removed so I only have one, and it's been up and running for 18 years now. I have a special appreciation for what you do.
My daughter now 34 was born with only 1 kidney, dx at age 4. We found out 3 months after her lung disease called primary Cilia dyskinesia . We live in Ottawa, she had a bronchoscopy done at CHEO, January 1990. She lived at hospital most of her first 4 yrs of life there due to severe asthma attacks, and fluid on her lungs. Then CF clinic took over her care with meds and chest therapy teaching us, her parents how to do her clapping and had a physiotherapist come into the home and then school as well. Now her lungs even tho scarred are doing ok, but the ears and sinuses are taking a beating. She has 4 kids, none of which have the disease.
I donated a kidney to a stranger last year and it was actually a great experience! Thank you for showcasing how important it is for the kidney patients to get transplants!
Thank you Dr. Siobhan for introducing about Kidney Transplant. Many people have serious kidney diseases and they are getting worse if they didn't take proper medicines. Thank you Siobhan for informing about good medical treatment for kidney disease and Pneumonia
I'm a Nurse, and I absolutely love watching your videos on my down time (if there is any) at work, while I'm charting, eating lunch... etc. They can be very educational and interesting! So, thank you!
The whole transplant surgery process is so cool! It’s also interesting how old kidneys are left inside often and transplanted kidneys are just added on.
My dad had a kidney-pancreas transplant in 1992, and has had three kidneys and two pancreases ever since. All of his native organs still had some function, so it was thought to be preferable to add, rather than to replace. Post-transplant medication regimens are complex, but critical to keeping your new organs healthy and preventing rejection. If you or someone you know is contemplating getting an organ transplant, it's best to prepare for it by making sure you are taking your medications correctly before the transplant, as that habit can save and extend your life after the transplant.
Hospitals and Doctors mostly we see during medical problems and its a hard time. But your polite attitude and nice way of talking makes it so pleasant,, I have realised that the right polite attitude makes things go much smoother. keep it up. this is a reason i watch ur videos,
I love this channel, I play the violin, and want to major as a MD in Cardiology, her videos are so entertaining and positive! Thank you so much Siobhon!
I think the coolest thing about kidney transplants is that the organ starts working as soon as it gets connected to the bloodstream! It’s not like a heart where you’d have to remove the patient from a machine to test if the organ will work, or a liver where several tests are required post-op to monitor functionality. Kidneys just go to work as soon as they’re “plugged in”!
These people are so lucky to have you as a doctor. Only my GP/Primary care doctor is helpful. No one has ever done anything for me, not even when I was on the NICU at 6 months, and then on the ITU at 17 for the exact same reason (seizures, as a result of epilepsy!)... It’s great when you only get ‘treated’ for a condition or listened to over 10 years later!
I am an organ donor. It is stated on my driver's license. I have also told my parents that if I happen to die before them, that I want ALL viable organs to be donated. ALL OF THEM. I am a huge believer in organ donation. It can save so many people's lives.

Really a disclaimer.. come on now lol your not giving medical advice. Your giving a good education information & look at the life of a doctor and your perspective on Medicean and your sharing an amazing videos on the health in general. Love all that you do .
Tony Especially in the health/medical field, disclaimers are required by law. There's even a disclaimer on cigarette packs. Every patient is different, in some way. There can be two or more patients with the same (type of) issue, but they have different things done and/or have different results. In October '15 I found out I have heart block and ended up with a pacemaker. They could've recommended a heart transplant, but it's not really necessary as heart block isn't something that a transplant is particularly necessary (although I could get one). Siobhan, I appreciate the disclaimer. It's the smart thing to do.
I love your vlogs so much, Siobhan! You manage to keep it informative, but not boring. Educational, but not too scientific. I love the way you edit your vlogs and your work ethic that shines through. Been watching you since 40k subscribers, and will be here until 4 million! Much love from Indonesia💕
So this may go unread but still wanted to express how much I appreciate what you do: I'm sure you, like any other person, do have your down days but the optimism you hold comes right through! I am a 19 y/o who has conditions that require regular hospital trips (and it's always been like that - in fine on the whole tho haha) and what I can is that a smile and the glimmer of hope that can give with a few optimistic words can do what sometimes even medicine cannot do! I've been treated by not so optimistic medics too in the past (although lucky not as often) and so I really appreciate how med staff like you show that glimmer of hope, where there otherwise may not even be, and that too when you yourselves work so incredibly hard!!!!!!
Thank you for taking the time to share and write this - very touching and really reminds me that I always want to portray that level of hope and positivity to my patients moving forward. thank you!
The moment TH-cam notified me on this video I stopped whatever I’m doing that moment and watched it from start to end. You inspire me tremendously and I never felt this excited about learning medicine.
I had a kidney transplant from my favourite teacher Amanda! It took me a while to recover but Amanda (still today) is with me every step of the way from school to meditation to hospital addmitions to all the other stuff! And as usual Amanda sometimes had to be there when facing my biggest fear almost every day (needles 💉) but itz part of my daily meditation and it has to be done!
This is literally your BEST video ever! I love when you geek out and give us all of this cool info! Had NO idea that they leave the old kidney in the body after a transplant! Why do they do this? Why not just remove it? Very interesting. Also love when you explain the problem and what you’re going use to correct it. You’re the BEST! I hope you always do videos, no matter how famous you get :)
I donated a kidney to a wonderful young lady I met through a Facebook moms group. It was an amazing experience and life changing. Information about organ donation is definitely important so I am loving this segment!!!! Awareness is everything
I love how you explain cases, it helps me actualy learn something from your vids. i recomend going even deeper in what you experience through your shifts and explain what you have to treat and how.

I am a nephrology Nurse in Australia. Kidney transplantation is a wonderful and life saving treatment and it is great when our patients receive one. I always look forward to Sunday mornings to watch your videos 😊
Love the way you present yourself as Siobhan instead of Dr. So&so when returning a page or phone call! Makes you seem much more approachable than most doctor I have to deal with as a pharmacy tech. Although it might be for the purpose of the youtube video so you don't disclose your last name (which is perfectly undestandable!).
I was in baltimore, a year ago an had a liver transplant, it's working great. The nite before they did 3 kidney transplants right in a row. I'm enjoying your video. Thanks
Hi Siobhan 👋 Thanks again for another fab vlog 😀 I particularly found this one interesting as I'm on the islet cell transplant list. I've been on the list for three years and had a call just before covid. Unfortunately it was able to go ahead as the quality of the cells deteriorated so quickly. You are 100% correct- these things unfortunately just happen and again you are also correct when you say it is a 'bittersweet' moment- your gain is someone else's loss😔 Thanks again for your video documenting the pros and cons of transplants 😀
Thank you for walking through your thought process with the high potassium as a nursing student it's always nice to see the thought process behind a decision
Are all shifts that you do call shifts? Or do you have “normal” hours during the week and occasionally have call shifts? I’m just curious how a typical work schedule is for doctors
I think she touched on her schedule when she was talking about whether or not it's dangerous to be as sleep-deprived as they are. th-cam.com/video/kr9_ofPZzRk/w-d-xo.html

Unfortunately not everyone has common sense. But I agree Tony, it does seem silly
I love how dialysis sounds so simple and it’s just a machine that keeps you alive but DUDE ITS MY WORST NIGHTMARE
Si your smile is so contagious, my daughter smiled back
This video was super interesting. It’s so nice to watch someone who is so passionate about what they do 😀
My late husband had a transplant for 17 years. He passed away in January. He had FSGS. Love your videos Siobhan! Keep up the awesome content.
So this may go unread but still wanted to express how much I appreciate what you do:
I'm sure you, like any other person, do have your down days but the optimism you hold comes right through!
Thank you for taking the time to share and write this - very touching and really reminds me that I always want to portray that level of hope and positivity to my patients moving forward. thank you!
Violin MD I felt I had to as it's simply the truth! Thank you for starting this channel!
I just love watching your videos when I'm either doing my nursing school work or just taking a break. Learning a lot from your videos everyday!
Why can’t I like video more than once 😭😭😭
The moment TH-cam notified me on this video I stopped whatever I’m doing that moment and watched it from start to end. You inspire me tremendously and I never felt this excited about learning medicine.
Hello! Love watching you!! I wanna be a nurse ( children’s)!
My grandpa had the same thing and had to go to dialysis. Have a great weekend!!
So cool I'm picking up on why you're ordering what you're ordering for the patient! #nursingschool
I love ur content ! How do you always look so awake after such long shifts 🤷♀️ 👩🏻⚕️👩🏻⚕️
I donated a kidney to a wonderful young lady I met through a Facebook moms group. It was an amazing experience and life changing. Information about organ donation is definitely important so I am loving this segment!!!! Awareness is everything
I'm currently studying MedLab. You're very inspiring.
I love how you explain cases, it helps me actualy learn something from your vids. i recomend going even deeper in what you experience through your shifts and explain what you have to treat and how.
These videos are so cool and I really look forward to them. I work in a hospital myself but non clinical so it's really interesting to get a closer look into the doctors world.
I always learn something when watching your videos! Someone I know is on the top of the list for a kidney transplant but they are still waiting. Says it could be any day but who really knows when any day is. Happy Easter!
Thank you for uploading today! needed this right now
I love your videos I think you’re a remarkable person and physician. Your dedication to the patients and community you serve is very heartwarming. And to find the time to edit and make these videos and share a part of your life to the world is absolutely encouraging and inspiring.
I love what you do! I have always enjoyed the medical field!

I am a nephrology Nurse in Australia. Kidney transplantation is a wonderful and life saving treatment and it is great when our
patients receive one. I always look forward to Sunday mornings to watch your videos 😊
Here in Sweden it's early Saturday afternoon when they use to pop up.
You inspire me, and I just want to say thank you.
This is awesome, I officially started interning at a hospital! I also got to shadow a hospitalist ❤️🧠
I was in baltimore, a year ago an had a liver transplant, it's working great. The nite before they did 3 kidney transplants right in a row. I'm enjoying your video. Thanks
Its so interesting to see what happens during different shifts...you do an amazing job! Keep up the great work!
I love these day in the life videos! So great getting an inside look on what your day looks like being a doctor !
Thank you for walking through your thought process with the high potassium as a nursing student it's always nice to see the thought process behind a decision
I just found your channel and I’ve been binge watching all of your videos 😅 I love how happy you are all the time! You are such an inspiration! ❤️
I’m totally obsessed with her!!! Watching from the beginning 🙂🙂
Are all shifts that you do call shifts? Or do you have “normal” hours during the week and occasionally have call shifts? I’m just curious how a typical work schedule is for doctors
Would love an in depth video on this!
I think she touched on her schedule when she was talking about whether or not it's dangerous to be as sleep-deprived as they are.

I can’t get over how positive you are with your smile and voice. Your Chanel is wonderful to watch, I never knew I would like this stuff but I realized if you are watching the right person you can enjoy something you might not usually enjoy. This is a great learning experience, and overall an amazing Chanel❤️
I blame exams for making me forget how fun watching Siobhan was😣 sending you love from egypt❤
Just got diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, this video is very interesting to me and helpful.
