Had this problem for almost a year thinking I needed to take it in. Just came across this randomly, bought the kit for my car, and did in fact fix it in less than 2 minutes. Went through a whole year of a trunk falling on my head for nothing.

Great video you made it seem so simple and quick. I bought two two replace in a Mazda but they seem too short but part store said they are correct. How do I get them to extend? The length they are they won't reach both sides.

Maybe you have to lower the trunk lid a little towards the strut to make it reach and then snap it on. Or have the auto parts store check it again.

@@howtoscottkeeley Thank you, learned the parts store gave me wrong ones. I got the right ones now they went on perfectly. Trunk is no longer heavy to hold up but I still have to hold it, what can he the issue with both struts replaced? Can it be faulty pieces?

Don't need to use a screwdriver to release them. Just a slightly-more-than-gentle tug and they pop right off.

How do you know what struts to buy for your car? Just bring old one into parts store and find one that matches?

Both of mine snapped off at the top(trunk). Trunk was open and got forced back even further, which broke struts at the top that was connected to the trunk.
