I love that the story has interactions between the writer and his characters! I don't think I've seen that in a mystery game. What a nice balance between realism and whimsy.
This kind of interaction DOES happen in Edna & Harvey 2: Harvey's New Eyes, but only rudimentary, since the PC is almost completely mute. This one is far more fleshed out.
So, what I'm hearing is this is 3 parts Nancy Drew, 3 parts Night in the Woods, and 1 part Stanley Parable in Finklestein's framing device. This sounds absolutely delightful.

I played this on my iPad last year. It was fun, be sure to temper your expectations when it comes to it’s ending. Seriously, if you’re going to make a mystery game, have a payoff. Feels like the author just decided, “Okay, I’m done, I can just put the rest in the sequel.”
Jenny LeClue: Detectivu is a really awesome game! I'm hoping that the story will continue someday. The acting is great, the art style is awesome, and the music is atmospheric. Definitely worth playing!
Tangle tower is another mystery game with great art and full voice acting too! I really loved it. (It's available on the switch as well) I think I'll like this one, I'll give it a look!
Yes, Tangle Tower is great :D I played both and think they are for about the same audience. Tangle Tower is also alot more challenging and longer than the other Detective Grimoire games.
It took me several years to actually get around to play, but now I'm very much enjoying it. The writer definitively brings a great edge to this game, since he's so very at odds with the new direction his novel took, and how his character develop a life of their own. It makes the actual story much more unpredictable. I have to admit, though, there are some puzzles I find pretty repetitive, and the giant locations are impressive, but a bit samey-looking as well.
I don't know if it's still on sale but it was on for $5 the other day on the nintendo store, it's definitely worth getting for full price though it's amazing
Murder mystery? Book-quality writing? Choose your own adventure in a dynamic story based on player choice? Side quests? Seriously you gotta play Disco Elysium.

I know the artwork doesn't look great but I had a phenomenal time with it, it's a good length and I don't see it talked about. I think you'd enjoy it!

Picked this up on your recommendation. Knew it was a good one when I felt like I'd been only playing it for a half-hour or so and found two hours had gone by.

Love the game, all for the reasons you bring up. My only gripe with it is that the ending is rather abrupt because it didn't advertise it was episodic, thought it was a complete adventure. But part 2 is out soon so that'll be a resolved gripe soon.
My friend picked this up on Switch, and for the price point, I could not believe the quality you get. The art style, writing, and voice work is phenomenal. Honest to god, I haven't seen a game with this much heart and personality in a long time. It's really something special that the entire mystery game community should jump onto.
The vibe of this whole thing reminds me of the unfortunately/delightfully named "Something Queer Is Going On" children's books from the 70s. I recently (literally in my parents' attic) rediscovered one of these books which I had adored as like a five year-old and completely forgotten about.
So, I bought this game immediately after watching this video a week ago because I trust your judgement, and I was not disappointed. Very fun and intuitive mystery/puzzle game. Also the art style is really enjoyable. This isn't a point-and-click, but it almost feels like an homage to point-and-click mysteries whilst being much more simplistic and intuitive. A casual approach to puzzles and mystery, I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next episode.
I played this game last Fall between days of tiring work- it just reminds me of apple cider, yummy fall snacks and lovely crisp air. I never thought I'd be nostalgic for that crappy job or even be nostalgic for something a year ago, during what a lot of people feel was the worst year in their lives... But it gave me time to relax and something to look forwards to playing. Great review and I agree with it entirely!

Meanwhile, me re: current writing project - "Hm, should I add one more murder just to make it an even dozen?"

I also loved the collect-a-thon (I missed one postcard piece and I'm mad about it) but you are right about the longer stretches of just general movement. Played this all the way through after your recommendation and I loved it all the way through! There were so many moments that I was gripped, and I never get that way about mystery games(even Monkey Island!) I haven't discovered everything in the game yet, but I'm still excited for it!

Picked this game up last year when I was staying home from work following a covid scare. Played through it in a day and was just engulfed by the story. It just has such an intense yet wonderful tone. The last fourth of the game is fantastic.
Have you ever picked up the Flavia de Luce murder mysteries? This sort of reminds me of them. Flavia is also a child and is also super excited to find her first body/murder mystery to solve. The difference is her family has a lot of issues so she never stops enjoying it. The stories are set in post-WWII rural England, in an old run-down estate, and Flavia is an interesting narrator--you can never quite be sure she's reliable. You'd enjoy them I think.

Having played 3 straight days of New Pokemon Snap, I can confirm this.
Suzie was my favorite character in the game and I hope we get a sequel because I was not satisfied with the endings.

I'll second this recommendation! The score and character writing are absolutely phenomenal too! If you liked Jenny, you'll love this (and vice versa).
It's super pretty as well.
