    Beautiful shots, great review! I’ve been using Vespids on an E2F6 for a while and love them. I agree about the focus throw, perfect for a solo op and one of the things that made me go for them over a competitor. I do use a follow focus at times, but can get away without it.
    I did need to re-shim most of the lenses for focus but it was easy to do.
    Spot on about the flaring, great for dreamy sequences, and can also be controlled a fair bit with a matte box.

    • @joenicklo

      Excellent point about the matte box. I should've mentioned that, especially considering I showed a matte box in the video.

      I've been thinking about getting the DZO lens for my F6. Right now i'm using a tamron 24-70 g1 and i'm not happy at all with the image. Wanted to buy the zoom catta versions, but im afraid the size of the lens might be dificult to balance on my gimbal. I already have a 85mm and a 50mm nice primes (not from dzo), so might end up buying the 21mm or the 35mm.

    • @alzibaba
      @alzibaba ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@FEcluk Yes, it depends on what gimbal you're using. On an RS3 Pro I can get away with the Vespids without counterweights, using an NPF 970 battery. Not sure that'd be possible with the Catta Aces. I have the 21 and 35mm Vespids, they're real sweet for sure.

    • @alzibaba

    I’m sure you’re already familiar but try to check out the SLR Magic APO Microprimes as well…the character is unreal, unbeatable at their price point.
    Hopefully a wide is on the way. They do breathe a little, but my god are they pretty lenses

    • @joenicklo
      @joenicklo  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do like the SLR magic APO HYPERprime that I once owned, however it was very heavy for its size and the focus throw was very stiff. Also, they never made a full set. Visually it was a nice lens. They also didn’t mKe many focal lengths.
      I’ve never used the Microprimes. Do they even come in EF/PL mount?

    • @joenicklo
      @joenicklo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I think that for me, 270 is perfect on a smaller lens like this (or the Fujinon MK, DZO Catta for example). Every shot you saw in the video was pulled by hand, no follow focus.

    Did you compare them to Meike lenses? Not saying i dont like these lenses, they are amazing. But to mention, CVP did an amazing comparison of all of these low budget cine lenses, and Meike kinda beat Vespid in my opinion in most fields, except in color consistancy. Meikes go from worm to cold from lens to lens ( at least on once they had ) but its minor, so easy to correct. Everything else, bokeh, sharpnes from edge to edge etc, Meike was better in my opinion. Plus they are even cheaper then Vespids...But, Vespids have an AMAZING marketing, and they have been really popular lately.

    • @joenicklo
      @joenicklo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I’ve shot on the meike lenses (both FF and S35 cine models) and they don’t touch the Vespids in my opinion. Lens matching is important. They’re also heavier than the Vespids. Meike are softer when wide open.
      Flaring I prefer on the Meike FF’s.
