Happy to see that the planet Mars is open for tourists again! 😀 Seriously though, that landscape with the storm is totally otherworldly. Stunning shots, especially the drone ones.
Sandcastle • hey, dont know if it was your intention or im simply misinterpreting, but i get the feeling that you’re criticizing a current behavior. But most of the islandic trees were chopped down about 1000 years ago by the vikings. Currently they are trying to regrow forrests
You've taken a lot of outstanding photos this trip but I'd be outright lying if I were to say those drone shots aren't some of my favourites too. Amongst the best drone shots I've ever seen in fact. What a moment
Breathtaking. Some people will say that you were lucky to get those shots, no the harder you work the luckier you will be. There's years of practice failure and bloomin hard work to produce such fantastic images.
Those drone images are gorgeous. Love the energy about what many would feel is a lost opportunity to photograph. Beautiful scenery for an unworldly view of our world.
It is very impressive that the drone managed to fly without mishap in a dust storm. The last two images taken with it are absolutely gorgeous. What an adventure!
This video, with the images, the sandstorm, the background music, this has to be one of your greatest ever videos, and that is saying something considering the high standard of content on this channel.
No Medium Format Film camera, tripod or filters and yet some of the best photographs of the trip from a handheld camera. It’s all about the best equipment, is the equipment in your hand at the right moment. Great Work.
The drone images are jaw droppingly beautiful! Also quite liked a couple of the XT-3 shots! When seeing the first pics in this video I immediately thought 'this is like Mars'. Finally, I think this shows very much that conditions are so much more defining the image than the landscape. Shooting with dark or moody weather gives me my favorite shots. This sanstorm with this location would have been a dream!
There's nothing like wind-blown clouds of micro-shredded volcanic glass to make a photography trip really special. I'd be terrified to expose my gear to those elements but sometimes it's worth it, as you showed. You mentioned in Alister's video that you never considered drones as true photography tools until this trip. I say, just think of them as really, REALLY tall and mobile tripods. I think those were indeed your best images
Geez Tom! There's no way I'd take anything other than a GoPro out in that flying dirt - and I live in Western Australia!! Your Mavic Air impressed. Great images in very difficult flying conditions.
Images are amazing! Sometimes we take an image and, frankly, it comes out even better than "real life". I'm guessing, with all these images, images are not even close to what it was like in "real life". Thanks Thomas!
Hey Tom, Happy Teacher's Day to you... Learnt a lot about photography from you over the years and thought I take the time to convey the same to you, so a big huge thank you to you. Thank you Thomas!
I've been subscribed to you since July 2015 (had to check) and this is the first time I comment. Superb images. I'm usually not too keen on B&W photos as I think the style is often used on bad images to make them look professional. But on these ones you demonstrated you are the professional. Keep it up Tom!
Got to say wow about that drone pano shot of the dusty landscape, that’s a stunner for sure! I’ve loved catching up on this series of videos as my interest had started to pick back up again, it’s always your videos that inspire me to want to get out again the most.
Hey Tom I'm watching thus for the 3rd time now and I'm still flashed by those images! Really outstanding. But it's not only the images, I really love the video and presentation of the images...really gets under the skin! So again awesome production quality and beautiful images as always. One of your best videos I've seen. Have a good day.
Spectacular work as usually Thomas! The drone pano is simply gorgeous, and the last image shot on the Portra 160 is actually really nice. I love how the mountain almost just fades away into the dust. Keep up the great work!
I have to admit I loved most of the images. Even the out of focus images add a dimension to the image that is raw and in the moment, like you can feel the landscape shifting through the image. The Portra 160 shot of the stone circle has a beautiful colour and stronger contrast in the shadows. But I have to agree those drone images at the end just take the prize. The ability to show the vastness of the landscape and the effect of the storm across it was very impressive. This video series through Iceland has been a wonderful escape, rekindling a desire to visit the beautiful country.
And now you have a good idea what the Mars rovers put up with. And the rocky ground looks so much like the scenery you see in the photos sent back from the red planet. Thanks for sharing Thomas.
What an experience. And you make it so real. The isolated mountain (the one you have yet to make you mind up about) -- it's stunning. Not in the "epic" sense, but in the "places like this actually exist" sense. And I love it: "Settings Unknown". I can just imagine.
Great video. I realize it can't happen because of copyright issues, but if you could use the backdrop of the Icelandic Sigur Ros album ( ), that music would match your images perfectly, and take your video to a whole new level. That combination would capture the essence of the Icelandic landscape perfectly!
I just loved that last film image. it was otherwordly. Thank you, every time I watch your videos for free on youtube, it compensates google using my data.
Pictures are amazing as always. But, what amazed me was that motion graphic through which camera settings popped, with that whoosh! sound effect. It was so subtle and amazing that I watched it again and again.
Your finest hour Tom. Missing focus or a bit of motion blur are inconsequential, photography is about capturing moments, and you did that wonderfully. Tremendous video.
Great Video Thomas, as always. Images were nice. I wish the Drone pictures would be in color. For me the B&W looks awesome. But I would love to see a spin of yours on them with color. How the black sand interacts with the stormclouds and the hazy mountains. These images look so otherworldly. Nice video.
Loved the intro music that you put on, sounded like a sandstorm. And yes, the drone pictures are really amazing. Getting those in a sandstorm is impressive - and brave!
I think Thomas this is one of those extremely rare and I do mean very rare segments of your videos to where your drone shots are actually better than your photography And that person on that bike holy s***that man's got some balls
The drone images simply take the prize. It's a tool well employed, here. Very nice work
I assume it's from Mr. Gibbs.
You know, I think your true calling here is cinematography.
Absolute joy to watch your storytelling.
natasha haggard if I remember correctly, Tom was a cameraman in a former life.
Happy to see that the planet Mars is open for tourists again! 😀
Seriously though, that landscape with the storm is totally otherworldly. Stunning shots, especially the drone ones.

Brilliant, Tom! good laugh seeing your run-in with the Hassy. "I'm going in"
I was just in Awe of Tom that afternoon: Man, he worked for this video and it really shows. Probably my favourite of the trip.
They look like photos that have come back from the curiosity rover, stunning!
You've taken a lot of outstanding photos this trip but I'd be outright lying if I were to say those drone shots aren't some of my favourites too. Amongst the best drone shots I've ever seen in fact. What a moment
Your enthusiasm in this video is absolutely infectious. It is what makes landscape photography so special!
These barren landscapes scream for B&W. Glad you did some Sir Thomas.
I love this high-impact, go, go, go photography. I could watch it all day.
Breathtaking. Some people will say that you were lucky to get those shots, no the harder you work the luckier you will be. There's years of practice failure and bloomin hard work to produce such fantastic images.
Agree, those drone photos are beyond epic. It's the contrast by the water that makes them.
It's fantastic to see the enthusiasm this trip has instilled in you. You can see the spring in your step!
The photo of the mountain you don't know if you like it or not... it's really beautiful in my humble opinion!!!
What an incredible moment, great video Thomas! Love it.
The dusty mountain, I love it! There is so much atmosphere, as you well know, ha. And it is perfectly placed in the frame. Lovely and so simple.
Looks like fun times. Wish I could have made it. I'd have just left the camera in the bag as those drone clips and photos were lush.
if ever a YT video deserved a thumbs-up, this has got to be it. Absolutely outstanding in every way.
Wow! that drone shot is absolutely stunning!
Those drone images are gorgeous. Love the energy about what many would feel is a lost opportunity to photograph. Beautiful scenery for an unworldly view of our world.
That final image is outstandingly beautiful, what a landscape!
It is very impressive that the drone managed to fly without mishap in a dust storm. The last two images taken with it are absolutely gorgeous. What an adventure!
I swear I could hear Darude playing in the background ;) Epic photos, I love the frantic nature of the video.
This video, with the images, the sandstorm, the background music, this has to be one of your greatest ever videos, and that is saying something considering the high standard of content on this channel.
The drone images are hands down the best images in this set.
No Medium Format Film camera, tripod or filters and yet some of the best photographs of the trip from a handheld camera. It’s all about the best equipment, is the equipment in your hand at the right moment. Great Work.
It really does look just like some of the images from Mars. Absolutely stunning.
Exceptional series of the desert storm. Love the simplicity of the images yet very impactful.
As soon as the dust came in. Dude. audio and cinematography on point. Very dramatic. Very fine!
There's nothing like wind-blown clouds of micro-shredded volcanic glass to make a photography trip really special. I'd be terrified to expose my gear to those elements but sometimes it's worth it, as you showed.

beside those phenomenal pictures.. the choice of music pushes this video so much.. great work!
Thanks for taking us along. I always enjoy the story. The drone photos were fantastic.
Geez Tom! There's no way I'd take anything other than a GoPro out in that flying dirt - and I live in Western Australia!!
Your Mavic Air impressed. Great images in very difficult flying conditions.
What a beautiful landscape! Love all the images, but especially the drone shots.
Images are amazing! Sometimes we take an image and, frankly, it comes out even better than "real life". I'm guessing, with all these images, images are not even close to what it was like in "real life". Thanks Thomas!
One big thank you for this amazing video Tom! What a feast to watch... Love the dramatic setting and the complete story. Thanks!
That individual mountain shot is like a post apocalyptic lonely mountain from the Hobbit, love it 😍
The isolated mountain is my favorite. I love how the rocks are running in a diagonal in the foreground and the softness of the mountain.
The motion blur actually fits the kodak portra image well and gives it an alien feeling
Saved the best till last with the drone photos. Stunning
Beautiful, simply beautiful - end of story.
Those drone images are some of your best images ever... 👍🏻
Fantastic drone work! I love it when nature makes you work for it. Love following this series.
Hey Tom, Happy Teacher's Day to you... Learnt a lot about photography from you over the years and thought I take the time to convey the same to you, so a big huge thank you to you. Thank you Thomas!
Thomas, I really liked the grayscale work. I think it was a wise choice to show this landscape and all its details. Ansel Adams would be proud. 😎🤙🏼
Absolutely crazy, incredible B&W shots, even blurry film shots are stunning! What epic dust storm you had!
The last one of the mountain in the warm glow might be the best!
I've been subscribed to you since July 2015 (had to check) and this is the first time I comment.
Superb images. I'm usually not too keen on B&W photos as I think the style is often used on bad images to make them look professional. But on these ones you demonstrated you are the professional.
Keep it up Tom!
I loved all the images - the drone images were the cherry on top! Thanks for always providing the inspiration to get going!
Amazing conditions, and those drone shots, absolutely stunning! 👍
Man for what it's worth, I love the final shot of the isolated mountain. Looks like a scene straight from Mars
Got to say wow about that drone pano shot of the dusty landscape, that’s a stunner for sure!
I’ve loved catching up on this series of videos as my interest had started to pick back up again, it’s always your videos that inspire me to want to get out again the most.

Spectacular images, under some of the most difficult conditions for equipment and operator/creator! Your drone images were simply stunning!!
Those bleak minimalist simple images, were some of the best I’ve seen from you Tom...
The last couple of shots with the manic air pro where amazing. Really amazing.
Majestic yet simple. Brilliant shooting Tom
some of your best work Tom. that mountain shot you stated that you are unsure of is stunning. its mysterious and not an obvious shot.
I’m looking at these images... and they feel like Mars landscapes!!! Amazing.
Music and editing make this feel like a Nat Geo feature. Great stuff
Amazing set of images and one of your best videos. They were all brilliant photos but you were right about the drone shots being the best.
Wow great series of photos Tom! And yes the drone photos in particular are to die for!
The drone shots win the day!
And now you have a good idea what the Mars rovers put up with. And the rocky ground looks so much like the scenery you see in the photos sent back from the red planet.
Thanks for sharing Thomas.

Huu!.....my God what a weather.😮 Those Images taken with your Drone are beautiful in B&W. 👍
I've really been enjoying the side by side film and digital videos Thomas! Thanks man! I really liked 8:34, motion blur and all.
Like the surface of Mars. Fantastic.
Really enjoyed the video - incredible atmosphere during that dust storm. The images look like they are from another planet. Well done!
The drone shots are absolutely sublime Tom bravo buddy👌👌👌 you gotta be in it to win it!!!!
Amazing series. The drone shots are good, but the stone circle ones, ouf, that's some minimalist landscape! Good job.

The late Thomas Heaton! Looking forward to this one mate
"Lens cap off". Best piece of advice ever!
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto definitely the best advice,we have all been there!
You made me think he had died 😅
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto You're welcome mate - I'm a total pro!! LOL
@@Trolleyfox LOL, sorry about that!!
Love the last image on film of the mountain... so much intrigue and asks you questions
Loved the drone pano shot - absolutely phenomenal shot. Superb video
Mind blowing shots! The drone shots are AMAZING!
Your finest hour Tom. Missing focus or a bit of motion blur are inconsequential, photography is about capturing moments, and you did that wonderfully. Tremendous video.
The drone images For The Win!
Drone footage is ethereal. Epic. Amazing. 👍
The drone images are gorgeous. Juice factor 11.
Incredible conditions. The two drone shots at the end were excellent 👍👏
The photos look like they are taken on Mars, great video. Thanks again Thomas
Great Video Thomas, as always.
Images were nice. I wish the Drone pictures would be in color. For me the B&W looks awesome. But I would love to see a spin of yours on them with color. How the black sand interacts with the stormclouds and the hazy mountains.
These images look so otherworldly. Nice video.
breathtakingly beautiful
The drone Panorama and the last film shot are definitely my favorites images! Man what a experience it had to be!
A very enjoyable video Thomas! I think you did great in some very challenging conditions .
Fantastic shots, Tom! Looked like a great experience.
Absolutely otherworldly, like they've just been beamed back by the Mars Rover.
What an adventure! The last film image looked really good, but the drone images where my favourites, otherwordly.
Excellent video, photos and I must agree those drone shots, wow! Great stuff.... I must add, your narration style is really working well too!!
This looks like the photos I've seen of Mars. Beautiful!
It’s funny you’re still wondering about the last one: this is easily my favorite from the video (besides the drone shots).
I agree, after the drone shots I think the last one has the best composition.
Amazing scenery, stunning drone images, the whole place looks other worldly
Loved the intro music that you put on, sounded like a sandstorm. And yes, the drone pictures are really amazing. Getting those in a sandstorm is impressive - and brave!
This was just otherworldly! Great video Thom! One of my favorites was the one you were unsure about. The Looming Giant.
I think Thomas this is one of those extremely rare and I do mean very rare segments of your videos to where your drone shots are actually better than your photography
And that person on that bike holy s***that man's got some balls
