What an awesome trip - I'm so jealous on that campsite 😊 nice to see you so excited about the wildlife and what a great moment you captured there. Looking forward to our next trip together👍
It is amazing to think that this pass has been used by native americans for thousands of years (remnants of camps at the saddle were found under ash from the Mount Mazama eruption). This hike has everything. Landscape, wildlife, and a rich history. I never get tired of going up there. I have been watching your videos for a while now and I was really glad to see you got a chance to camp at Sahale.
How anyone gave this a thumbs down is impossible to believe, jealousy I suspect. Thoroughly enjoyable to explore this part of the world with you and to hear you think out loud on the photos. Nicely done!
Thanks for the great adventure you took us on, love all the shots, especially the part we're you saw the Bear, you were calling out , Hay Bear! Hay Bear! We have a cat name Bear, he hear you and came running into the living room, he look at the tv see what you wanted, what a wonderful scene, .again thanks for a great video we will always remember how out Besr reacted to you calling out Hay Bear!♥️👍😊it would have made you smile 👍
Glad you are getting to hike the north cascades. I kive on the west side of the north cascades. Summertime haze is so common and frustrating. Still you were able to get some very nice images. Enjoy the PCT.
Thomas, it’s again a lot of fun to see you made it on this trip up the Sahale Arm, near me, as it’s truly one of the classic hikes in the North Cascades and a place I took my first reasonably good landscape 40 years ago on Kodachrome 25, printed on direct positive paper, state-of-the-art all those years ago. I still found Glencoe, Skye and other places in Scotland at least as reliably beautiful, enough that one or two has made it to my wall - something that doesn’t often happen. Glendale on Skye? World-class. Thanks for your videos.
This is the Thomas I remember from the "old days" when you took us with you to the mountain top as you set up your tent. Then, the next morning you shared those special sunrise and fog views with us. Welcome back!
I still enjoy this style of photography where you tell the story and then show yourself at work Your not frightened of making comments re, light and problems and otf the toils and tribulations of undertaking such photographyy missions Thank you.
Being a resident of Washington, it's nice to see your videos (and shots) of our national parks. The haze you referred to originated from forest fires to the north and to the east...not huge fires but enough to "muddy up" the skies. But you really must visit Yosemite again...my wife and I got married at Glacier Point...and the access is phenomenal. Best time to go is early spring (before schools close for spring break) when the snowpack runoff is heavy, and after they (the kids) go back to school in late August. Highly recommend the hike up Half Dome...done it a couple of times...but travel light. You can't take a bad picture!
The North Cascades are such an incredible place! Glad you were able to come up here and see how beautiful it is! There is a rich history of landscape and natural photography in the Cascades, where many photographers and wilderness adventurers took photos to capture the beauty of these peaks, just as you did. These photos were then published and compiled, and used to persuade legislators to create Wilderness designations (Such as the Stephen Mather Wilderness where you were camped) and the North Cascades National Park designation itself. This place is truly a testament to the power of landscape and adventure photography.
What's truly amazing about landscape photography is the journey it takes to get the photo. There's so much that no one else sees, especially when you're alone. The most crippling thought about landscape photography is thinking that you shoot consistently epic photos from the parking lot... even though I have done that LOL!
Love the spam single slice packets. I keep a small bottle of veggy oil in my cook set which allows for frying of the spam - just to change things up every other meal or so. Great video.
You looks amazing at the backdrop of these mountains Thomas. What a place! Superb morning, incredible photos! Absolute beauty! Thank you so much for showing these a wonderful hikes, for your photos. Good luck!
It's an absolute beautiful location and the sunrise is serene and filled with joy. But I will never ever understand how you can pass on shooting astroscapes when you are somewhere like this!
I spent most of my life doing this samre thing. Dew to a back injury several yrs ago my gear just hangs in the garage now. Love to say its a fun experience watching your wonderful video. Instead its what i can never do again.
The Sahale area is absolutely beautiful! If you're still in the Northern Cascades you should check out one if the many retired fire lookouts. There are several in the area that you can stay in overnight which is a neat experience
Marc G Actually, experts tell you to avoid shooting at a bear because it’s more than likely the bear will attack you before it goes down or before you can get away. Spray is more likely to get rid of a bear without the need to kill a beautiful wild animal in its own habitat, nothing to do with gender...
Thomas, I watch almost every video and this one sure is one of my favorites. It has hiking, wilderness camping and great photography tutorials! Excellent job!
Have you researched how to act around a bear since the trip? Wildfire smoke can mess up blue skies but when it gives the sun and clouds that beautiful orange red glow, it's phenomenal. Glad you enjoyed your visit to our home state.
Sahale is one of the best hikes in NCNP. Very well known for having plenty of wildlife, especially bears. I saw four the last time I was up there and I’m hoping to see more when I get back up there next weekend!
You make tortillas and Spam look so appetizing! Great location, great National Park. Having that morning visitor would have been a highlight for me as well. You bookended the adventure with a bear and a mountain goat, pretty cool!
Hey Thomas! lovely shots! Thought I'd share a tip with you and all the other canon users on here shooting panos. I like to separate my panos out into different folders with on camera organization. Something that really stream lines my editing process. In the menu page SET UP1 ( yellow wrench icon, first tab), enter the top option Record Func+card/Folder Sel. then scroll down to Folder and then create new folder. All of my pano's or environment specific images can be separated out into their own neat folders for me to just rename the top EOS folder to whatever I want once I drag them all over to my laptop. Keeps things super clean. it's also an item you can add to your QUICK TAB page. If things are moving quick, sun is dropping too rapidly, then I'll still use the same hand separation method you described. Anyway, keep up the good work!
When I saw your video of Maple Pass Loop, I knew you are going to do Cascade Pass and Sahale Arm. That's my favorite hike since it was my very first hike with my favorite girl ten years ago. Way before I got into landscape photography as a hobby. Thank you very much for the "taking a shot of your palm to identify separations of photos". That's a great tip!
If you see a bear on the trail and want to know what kind it is, climb a tree. If it climbs up to kill you, it is a black bear. If it pushes the tree over, then kills you, it is a grizzly bear. That was just a black bear, look big and stand your ground. Great video Thomas!
Cody Blue I’m definitely digging these longer videos from him. The photos are worth it and it helps tell the full story of the photo. Happy shooting bro!
Paul Messner Stunning Tom. Not sure if my hiking trousers would come clean after seeing a bear 😂💩. absolutely stunning landscape. I need to get on a plane with my gear and start spreading my wings a bit further afield. Cheers
Hi Thomas. Some day pop over to Ontario Canada and visit Algonquin Park. Lots Bears and beauty. Check out Algonquin Outfitters at the west end of the park. No I don't work for them. Just familiar from prior excursions.
Cool video! A black bear, a mountain goat, and amazing views. And you don’t have to worry about black bears very often. They are usually pretty chill. Grizzly Bears…. that’s a much bigger concern. If you spend time in Grizzly country, you definitely won’t want to forget the bear spray.
Absolutely magical. The amount of times I said “wooowwww” our loud in my living room is unreal. When the light wasn’t great in the evening I was on the edge of my seat with my fingers crossed when you were opening the tent for the morning light. Amazing images. Love the vertical one. And bless the goat. Ace ace ace.
All the usual benefits of a TH video, and he's doing it in my own backyard. e certainly picked one of the more brutal hikes. For those attracted to doing something like this, know that while any mountain hike is going to provide good exercise, we have any number of alternatives which yield great photo opportunities for a whole lot less sweat. Mt. Rainier NP is a great option.
The bears want nothing to do with us so they usually run when they see you. However, seeing them is awesome. I live in Seattle and hike and backpack the Cascades all the time and rarely come across a bear. Glad you got to experience the PNW. Now you need to come back and photograph the Palouse.
This place is literally too beautiful to exist. In case you and your wife visit Tenerife again for a vacation, I can highly recommend the Refugio on the side of Pico del Teide. Hiking up to Mountain before Sunset, enjoying the shadow drop onto the caldera and waking up the next morning in the Refugio, stepping outside and seeing the sun rising behind Gran Canaria is an amazing thing. Photographic, it's not even close as incredible as Sahale is, but nevertheless, it's a breathtaking experience!
Hope you’re enjoying your time in the states. That certainly was a gorgeous location! Many times I watch your videos and think I would really like to get to Britain to do some photography and then you remind me that there is incredible beauty right here for me to seek out. Stay safe. Enjoy the rest of your time here Mr. Heaton. Can’t wait for the next vid!
Inspiring from you Thomas.. I just won an award from local Malaysia photography competition.. to be announced this Thursday 10th Oct. Thanks so much sir.. you've made me something special to this beautiful world...
That was lovely. What a beautiful place. I loved all the views, including on the hike, as it was so gorgeous. I would never have got to the top, because I would have been taking shots a every viewpoint on the way up! Your wildlife encounters were great too. Just for your information, the images of the video were very crisp and sharp during your ascent. It was a good camera and lens combination. I really like your videos when they include the journey in more detail, showing us the landscape as you travel to your chosen location. Thank you so much.

Sweet shot of the goat at the end!
Cheers dude. It turns out that they are attracted to pee. So if you want a really good shot, the night before you gotta pee on an epic view point.
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto Or bring Adam along because.... well,.... from what I've heard, he always smells like pee. ;)
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto I knew there was a reason for my feeble pea sized bladder.
Goat's undercarriage! Tom's gone all Gavin Hardcastle!
This is the 'Thomas' we always wanted!! :)
We've had him for a while, but he's busy!
Jayanth N Murthy the GOAT of landscape photography!
What an awesome trip - I'm so jealous on that campsite 😊 nice to see you so excited about the wildlife and what a great moment you captured there. Looking forward to our next trip together👍

James Brockill wow! I had no clue about the history of it! Definitely gives this area more meaning.
How anyone gave this a thumbs down is impossible to believe, jealousy I suspect. Thoroughly enjoyable to explore this part of the world with you and to hear you think out loud on the photos. Nicely done!
Dear Thomas when you go on such hikes please shoot stars as well(if the sky cooperates) !!! Also goat shot is the absolute best!!!

Bear is a big gray boy wieighyabout 15 lbs.
Enthralling, simply exquisite.

Thanks a lot. More to come very soon. 👍
Your BEST video ever! What an incredible journey with stunnin' images to boot! Thanks, Tom for the ride!
One of my favorites too! Those photos were definitely thought provoking.
Great video. A black bear, marmot, mountain goat, and fabulous scenery. Doesn't get much better than that.
What's truly amazing about landscape photography is the journey it takes to get the photo. There's so much that no one else sees, especially when you're alone.
The most crippling thought about landscape photography is thinking that you shoot consistently epic photos from the parking lot... even though I have done that LOL!
