With this video, I would recommend watching until the end. It's a great example of how quickly things can change. Enjoy👍 P.s. My 2021 calendar is now available: thomasheaton.co.uk/product/2021-calendar/
Thomas Heaton Excellent video as always. So very glad the mist came through for you. Torn between the colour and black and white, but I do love the lone sheep in the dark area of the B&W shot. Ordered both your book and calendar and they just arrived two days ago. Love them both. JoAnne
Definitely the colour version Thomas, I like how you can see the blue water in the foreground and to the left rear of the image, it's a nice contrast of colours.
Hi Thomas, if you are looking for more separation in BW photo use color filters. It is of course possible simulate in post process but not everytime because color filter alter how much light of given color is touching sensor. I thought that color filters are obsolete in digital era but they are not.
Tom, there's a gentleness to your videos. There's an integrity, a respect and a simplicity. I would rate you as a bloody decent film maker at this stage. Also the music that you choose and how you use it. These videos are beautiful and an art form all by themselves.
The one attentive little sheep absolutely makes the black and white image work. Really highlights the dark band of grass and provides a great counterpoint to the raised group of trees.
Both are great images but I think I prefer the soft colour shot. It really conveys the morning light in a way that the monochrome one doesn’t so much. Fantastic video as always! I learn so much from you, thanks.
I like the B&W image because the single sheep lower in the frame draws the viewer in to the composition, and then the eye just follows into the trees and the mist and the hill behind.
The colour one, most definitely. It adds smoothness and a touch of serenity, wonder and mysticism. Reminds me more of a painint too. The B/W one is just harsh and hits me in the face.
I think it is awesome the way you recognized the potential of that little mound with trees given the right conditions and doggedly pursued it until you were there at the right moment. Bravo!
The higher contrast B&W version wins, I'd be curious if the trees in the background change a different color in the fall (autumn?) and provide that separation too.
I dig the black and white version for two reasons. The fog separating the tree and background and the lone sheep in the shadows making for a second nice subject separation. Nice work
You could have stayed at my place. It’s a 5 min drive to there. Was there myself the other morning in the same conditions. Good work. I also shot the spider webs. Fantastic.
Love the black and white - the tree in the color version - while dramatic with the mist - is not quite as separated as the tree in the black and white version. Well done.
The B&W one. The other one looks a bit empty without the sheep now. It's more dynamic and keeps the eye moving from the sheep to the trees to the background and back.
The color version is missing the sheep in the foreground :D Usually I'm not a B&W person, but I think here the high contrast BW fits better with no mist in front of the tree.
First of all, this was a classic Thomas Heaton video. Out and about in the UK, a little drone footage, love that, and a little vintage music, what can I say - Three cheers! That said I prefer the B&W.
The old Thomas is definitely back and appears to be enjoying his photography .............. Great video BTW and as for the image, I prefer the colour shot ............... For me, it has a more autumnal feel to it 📷👍
I can't pick between the two, I love them both. In this case the deciding factor would be decor and where the picture will be displayed. Can't go wrong with either. ❤️
Hi Tom! I really like the spider web photo! Regarding the last image the monochrome does it for me, the coloured one would be nice later on the fall when the leaves change, just to add that little extra to the scene.
The black and white! With the color one my eye is drawn more to the wall than it is to the tree. The contrast of the tree in the black and white image seems to make the tree the subject!
6:17 that horizontally blown tree thing is a square composition if ever I saw one! That jumped at me from the background, there was no way I was casually walking past that.
B+W version is better for me. Did you really have a 150 second exposure for the spider's web or was that a typo? Great video. I have shot that spot in the lakes many a time.
The black and white image for me. However would love to see the scene with full autumn colours as well! Great content as always....keep up the good work!
Honestly mate, have you ever felt the urge to press "dislike" on a T.Fuego production? I think not 😅 You´re better off just slamming that like button asap.
Both are great, and I like the colour one more. For me, the coloured light is more relatable and I can easily picture myself walking through the scene.
My vote is for the B&W version, without hesitation. Like you said yourself in the video Tom, it has all of the elements, the mist behind the tree, and the deep contrasts it helps create. The layering in the foreground of light and shadows is further emphasised by the stone walls, separated by the light falling between them. I adore the sharp details in the tree which on its own creates even more contrast with the software areas behind it. And the little 🐑 is that little bit extra that really puts together the final detail of the composition. The B&W treatment celebrates all of this, and it's easily one of my favourite photos of yours. So well done! Love it!
From a woman's perspective, getting caught peeing in the bush is definitely worse. A pose with the right amount of contortion necessary to not pee on myself is way more embarrassing than talking into a camera!! :D
I love the separation that you were able to get with the black and white shot. The tree steps off of the page to me and really catches my attention. Great shot!!
I like both photos for different reasons. The color image has a pleasing painting sort of feeling to it. The black and white has an artistic photo quality I like. Thank you for sharing this experience.
No mentions to Roxette? Lame. Sleeping in my car - I will undress you Sleeping in my car - I will caress you Staying in the back seat of my car making up.
The white cow in the dark grass in the foreground puts the higher contrast photo on top in my opinion. It's one tiny detail that seems to make the foreground feel "whole", though if you were lucky enough to have it standing more towards the left it'd possibly be more balanced. Regardless, wow.. I love that photo. The enormous roots hugging the rocks give the tree on the right so much character.
I've been recommending Thomas to my friends recently...his videos are so raw and real, they share his appreciation for the art of photography, the ups and downs...its unfiltered....we need more of this
I really like the B &W version. The sheep adds a bit of a secondary subject and I really like the lighting in the foreground more than the color. It looks like the foreground started coming into a bit of shade as you took the second shot for the color image. The B&W has wonderful contrasting bands that leads my eye from the white sheep in the dark foreground through the brightly light hole in the fence up to the contrasting main subject of the trees. Long story short, both images are wonderful but I really enjoy the light and contrast in the B&W
I like the color photo as well, I think the foreground of the black and white photo detracts from the more contrast-y subject of the trees on the hill.
Definitely the softer color image. The way the light hits the tree and the overall surroundings makes more of an impact in the color image than the black and white.
I honestly cannot say which I prefer. Both are quite different in their own way and both work beautifully. Sorry to sit on the fence but I like them both
Not only like the B&W the best, BUT! it has the single centered sheep looking straight into the camera!!!!! How’s that for luck? And I think if you’re talking separation then you could not have wished for more, w/ the sheep up front and all the rest in steps back. Wow, love that. The colored version seems lonely by comparison. Great video Tom, thanks.
I am drawn to the B&W image more. I think the contrast throughout really pulls me into the image and makes it feel dreamy and ethereal. Lovely photos and another great video. Thanks for sharing Thomas!
Soft colored one for me. With the BnW white one, its kinda like what you would normally expect when you want separation. On the colored one the mist only softens the copse of trees itself and not the surrounding foreground and it gives it an ethereal and is a truly lucky turn of events.
I like the color one. Such a soft palette and you did a great job retaining the true interaction between the light and subject in the color one as well.
Color for me. I've never been to the Lake District but the image I sort of envision seems really close to what you shot there and rendered in color. Just makes me happy thinking about it. Thanks for what you do. We all enjoy it so very much.
B&W does it for me, the white sheep welcomes you into the scene like a master of ceremonies. Lifetime ski bum here, sleeping in a car, no problem. Great vid!
Both shots awesome but for me, the colour shot just grabs and keeps my attention!! Up close, the b&w looks epic but from a short distance, the colour one wins. Cheers, great “solo creational video” 👍😎 Jase
Very difficult choice. I think I lean toward the black and white image. Fantastic good fortune to catch the mist rolling behind the tree on the hillock. Well done!
I prefer the color even though I simply love black and white photos. Your talk on the contrast and separation of the photo is a great analogy for life. It made me think of the experiences we have in life and how they can bring focus and clarity to the present moment through the mist of time. Top Thomas Heaton moment for me. 🥂
For me it’s the colour version. That may be because I’m not a fan of black and white images but the soft light on the colour really makes me feel that I was standing there when the shot was taken. Great work as always Thomas.
With this video, I would recommend watching until the end. It's a great example of how quickly things can change. Enjoy👍

agreed - enjoy them enormously here in Australia - longing to get back to UK

Both are great images but I think I prefer the soft colour shot. It really conveys the morning light in a way that the monochrome one doesn’t so much. Fantastic video as always! I learn so much from you, thanks.
Black and White is my favorite. I love the higher contrast and the quiet that it lends the photo.
Soft colour image for me personally, just gives it a bit more atmosphere and it's what the eye would see - great video.
I like the B&W image because the single sheep lower in the frame draws the viewer in to the composition, and then the eye just follows into the trees and the mist and the hill behind.
I love when you explain what is and isn't working in a composition. I sometimes find that Thomas Heaton voice in my head when out in the field.
The black and white one is looking good to me. It is just the right amount of calm and contrast.
The softer colour image for me anyday....a great end to your morning
The colour one, most definitely. It adds smoothness and a touch of serenity, wonder and mysticism. Reminds me more of a painint too. The B/W one is just harsh and hits me in the face.
Black and white for me. Love the contrast between the copse of trees and the mist!
B&W really brings out the main copse and the sheep is the icing on the cake.
I think it is awesome the way you recognized the potential of that little mound with trees given the right conditions and doggedly pursued it until you were there at the right moment. Bravo!

Really like the black and white. The tree gives the image depth when it’s in B&W
The single sheep makes the B/W version. Adds further depth and leads to the wall. Terrific shot.
I used to sleep in my car on travel assignments so I didn't have to pay for hotels. haha This was my life.
Its not a bad thing! car or cheap motels ftw!
Sounds like a good idea.
Black and white image at the end of the video is the best ❤️
Have to say the colour version is doing it for me. Softer and more natural - Great video Tom 👍🏻
you're right, the mist made all the difference! I like the bnw.
The B&W one. The other one looks a bit empty without the sheep now. It's more dynamic and keeps the eye moving from the sheep to the trees to the background and back.
Black and White. I prefer it because the subject is so timeless and pastoral that I feel the b/w speaks to that.
Thomas should borrow Morten Hilmer´s camouflage dress to hide from other photographers
and a wooden coffee cup.......he’ll need one of those too 😬
@@andyprime57 ahh mortens wooden kuksa coffee cup
Softer colour for me. I think colour helps bring the scene alive and separates it even more oddly enough. Love the colour one.
Tom: it's not working, it needs separation
Mother nature : there you go Tom
😁
Lol. That's exactly what happened.
I love B&W photography, but the softer colored version is the winner for me. It brought me to the place a lot more. Fantastic capture!
The color version is missing the sheep in the foreground :D

I love the color version! It’s so soft and atmospheric. I feel like it puts me there. Another job well done mate!
The B&W version is my favourite and that sheep in the foreground in the shadow add some more interest to the image.

Winter 👍
@@ThomasHeatonPhoto yeah will look great in winter
Both versions are lovely but I think I prefer the colour one , it just speaks of a beautiful Autumn in the lakes ,
Which of course it is !
B+W version is better for me.
Did you really have a 150 second exposure for the spider's web or was that a typo?
Great video. I have shot that spot in the lakes many a time.
Lol. Typo.
Was wandering the same, it didn't look like a 150 seconds exposure :-)
I have to go with the black and white image. I think that sheep adds so much to the composition, and breathes extra life into the scene
The black and white image for me. However would love to see the scene with full autumn colours as well! Great content as always....keep up the good work!
I lobe the Black and White contrast and how much the tree stands out (I also like the sheep)

I love the separation that you were able to get with the black and white shot. The tree steps off of the page to me and really catches my attention. Great shot!!
The Black and White one, but only because of the sheep.
Same, the sheep adds a touch of foreground interest that is lacking in the colour one.
I think the sheep in the foreground of the black and white image really completes the composition. Great video and images, thanks for sharing.
Prefer the colour version - has more interest for me, personally.
I like both photos for different reasons. The color image has a pleasing painting sort of feeling to it. The black and white has an artistic photo quality I like. Thank you for sharing this experience.
I think getting caught having a "pee to camera" is infinitely worse : )
B&W contrast is great, patience is a virtue they say.......
I’d rather get caught having a pee as it is a more natural thing to do than filming a piece to camera!
