  • @Kahsyrbag

    The toner being the adhesive made me think of what else could be used instead of foil, and I tried with royal gold mica powder, it works, looks beautiful, but takes four times through a basic 12" laminator, a Minc on the highest setting would probably be much better for this. it takes a very light coating, and I used a makeup brush for the powder application. With it working with mica powder, you could probably use any fine powder, there is even glitter dust that would probably work.

    I have a brother b&w laser printer and successfully used toner foils on on my stickers in the past. I replaced the cartridge with a generic one when it finally ran out, and now my foiling is not working! Very hit or miss. I am using my same minc foils and same sticker paper as usual b/c I have a billion sheets amazon laminator, Printed and cut stickers with my silhouette... literally nothing different. Also, to test it I foiled some pre-purchased minc stickers I had in my stash and they were fine. Have you seen that a replacement toner has created problems for foiling?

Can you re run a foiled image that missed black spots? Are Transfer sheet and toner sheet the same? Finally, do you think it’s possible to reuse discarded toner from a toner cartridge as powder over a Sticky stamped image and foil in Minc? Tx much.

I don't know if there are newer models & whether I need to buy 1 (not really in my budget as extra $ currently goes for hubby's cancer meds.). Also my fax machine is also a laser printer so I think it's ok to use that (it's a Brother but I don't know what the dpi rating is).

    • @NancyStamps
      @NancyStamps  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Traditionally wedding invites should be thicker, unless you are trying to foil them from home. You can always print & foil in 65lb and then layer onto a thicker card base. You wouldn't just print and fold the card. Layers make it elegant. Maybe put a piece of vellum in between.

    Thank you for this video. I went and bought some Michaels 65 lb recollections paper today and did a test run with it. The white paper with a minc on setting 4 with H&H gold foil appears to have 98% - 99% or greater foil adhesion with some very minor black specks where it didn't foil. Overall, it seems like this type of paper is excellent for toner foiling.
    In your opinion, which do you think is the best for toner foiling: Hamilco 80lb, Hammermill 60lb, or Michaels 65 lb? Or are they all about the same? Thanks again.

      The Hamilco is #1, Hammermill only comes in white, I recommend the recollections for colored projects. So you can't go wrong with any of them.

    Question: why did some of the results show dirty marks from your printer while others didn’t? The second to the last, on black paper, you stated it was from cleaning your printer and on the last, on the clear sticker paper, was clean. I’m just a little confused. Thanks for this video.

    I tried foiling a few weeks back, and it came out a bit... grainy? chalky? When I peeled it off, the stamping looked rough. I outsourced the printing and laminating. You mentioned that thick papers tend to be porous. It was a 200gsm paper, not sure the equivalent in lbs.
    I wonder if the problem was with the toner, or the paper or the foil itself? Or probably the heat of the laminator.
    I forgot to say, there were also parts that didn't get foiled while some parts were ok. I wonder why that is?

    • @NancyStamps
      @NancyStamps  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be the printing, my guess is that the laminator doesn't get got enough and not enough pressure. Can you find someone with a Minc to try?

    • @nurix2167
      @nurix2167 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NancyStamps aw, sadly, I know no one with a Minc. And it's not available in our country. I'm from SEA.
      I actually tried foiling again earlier before I read your reply. And yes, the problem still exists. Some parts were still not getting stamped. And a few parts with over foiling.
      I now have added a few more theories:
      1. Maybe my design was a bit too thin. I noticed those were the ones not getting foiled.
      2. When I laminate without wax paper on top, the foil clings to the laminator roller. Yikes. The thing is, if it has wax paper, the temperature tends to drop even if I had the laminator on for 30 minutes.
      3. You're probably right, it's the laminator not hot enough. The max setting for the one I'm using is 200C.
      I wonder how else to fix these. An iron?
