  • Foil with your stamps WITHOUT a hot foiling system or laminator! Expand and scroll down here for products used with links. Use this easy technique to foil with your stamps without a laminator or a hot foiling system! I will show you how to cover your die cuts with foil too! *Follow Up* I don't know if I was extremely lucky when I tried this the first time and filmed this video or what, BUT...I have had varied success with this after the fact! So, I'm inclined to think that there are different variables at play that can effect the success of this technique if you try. Possible trouble shooting or things to consider below:
    1. Make sure you get a good solid coating of sticky embossing powder.
    2. Make sure right after you melt the embossing powder you immediately put the foil on it and run it through your embossing machine. I wonder if it works as well when it cools off entirely.
    3. Extremely warped plates or incorrect pressure seem like they might effect the end result.
    4. Choose a stamp with a decent size line weight or thickness. I think if they are too thin it won't work as well but as always, trial and error.
    So, that being said! I wish you nothing but success with this technique. Let me know in the comments if it worked for you or if you have any follow up suggestions for me. I appreciate you checking it out!!

    Have you tried foiling without a laminator or hot foiling system? I will admit I have a bit of a love hate with foil. I will keep at it though. Have a great day!

      I just got a minc and foil and the sticky embossing powder. It worked great the first time and I was excited! Then after doing the same stamp again, it over foiled. Now, I can't figure out what happened. I'm wondering if you heat the back of the paper after you have the foil on it, maybe after you run it through the die cut machine, and then run it through again, if that would help. Now I have to try that.

    This is the first time I’ve seen anyone suggesting covering a card panel with double side adhesive and then adhering the foil to the adhesive on the card panel. It’s simple, yet brilliant! Add the sticky embossing powder for stamps and a foiling system and plates are unnecessary!

      @amyswares  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I'm so glad that you like it! I don't have any experience with the glimmer or plate system so I can't speak to if those results are better or not. But this is a fun alternative regardless with stuff we likely already have on hand. Thanks so much for watching!

    One of the tricks I learned and saw Tim Holtz talk about with the sticky embossing powder is have your foil read to go BEFORE you melt the sticky embossing powder and lay the foil on it the second it's melted, while it's still hot. You get better results.

    I also enjoy cutting words/shapes out of a sheet of double-sided adhesive, sticking it onto my project, and then pressing foil onto it. This way, you don't get the ridges and holes show up when die cutting the foil, plus it works with glitter too, which looks great! So much versatility. Thanks for sharing your fab suggestions! Amy, I have been stamping since the mid-1980s. Sticky powder was a big thing in the early 2000s. We would stamp with it the way you did, and then sprinkle glitter on the sticky powder. You do want to use a very fine glitter, such as Art Institute Glitter. That’s what that Art Institute Glue was originally designed for, to fill in flower petals or designs with very fine glitter. Hence, the fine tip on the glue bottle. And yes, the foiling works well. Since you didn’t feel that it was quite as smooth as you would like, make sure that your embossing pad is really wet. The wetness of the embossing pad is what activates the powdered glue. Also, try running it through your laminator and your embossing/cutting machine to see if that improves the look and smoothness. Happy stamping! TFS!❤

    Fabulous!! 😀 Thank you so much for offering this ‘solution’ for a great way to foil without the expensive heating device (and associated plates). I too have some of that embossing powder just sitting somewhere since I bought it years ago!🤣🤣 Your tip to not heat it too much was much appreciated as I am thinking that’s why it has sat in a drawer all this time as a ‘fail’ … because I likely did heat it too much back then. I recently heard using regular embossing powder but running it through a laminator will also work, but this technique is much easier! Your process with the die cut sentiments was also helpful!! They look great. I can’t wait to get out my foiling supplies soon and try this! Thanks again for all you share, I really appreciate your content, creativity and style of teaching! 🌻😀👏🏻👏🏻🌷🦋👍🏻 ⭐️

    Thank you, I have that glue embossing powder. I am going to try it with the cutting machine, but also with my laminator. Unfortunately it looks like my glimmer hot foil machine died (it doesn’t heat up anymore) so I am going to try out other methods and save up for a new machine… Thanks 👍

    • @amyswares

      I have tried it before running it through my cheap laminator after using the sticky embossing powder. It's been a long while but I don't remember it working well. I think the laminator made the glue of the sticky embossing powder too hot if memory serves. If you try it, please let me know how it worked for ya.

      At Stampin Up they use metallic guilding flakes on sticky powder & rub it with a brush for a beautiful shine! The extra flakes go back in your Rubbermaid container so there's no waste

  • @craftedbykatz
    @craftedbykatz 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm wondering if it would cover even better with a smooth cover/cutting plate? I feel like the little nicks are from the cutting plate grooves. I also saw a gal use foil paper with her dies, glued it onto her card panel then run it through her die cutter using the rubber shim. It basically smushed the papers into one layer making a faux foiled card! Lots of different techniques to try. I'm new at this, but my foil arrives tomorrow to try the non heat techniques! I am also going to try to cut my foil with a rotary cutter since its so thin and wiggly.
