      Great video but I wish you would have included the Coleman hooligan 2 person tent. It is without a doubt one of the best values in a tent someone can purchase.
      Set up as a breeze requiring a minimum of just taking out the four corners, then one rod along the top.
      It has a bathtub tarp floor to keep you dry. AND IT IS AN EXCELLENT STARGAZE TENT WITHOUT THE RAIN FLY.
      I got caught in a major thunderstorm and stayed completely dry with the bright orange rainfly installed.

      @@powerguymark Hey Mark thanks for another great input! I ran out of money to spend on tents, but yes I will definitely try to get the Hooligan next time when I'm updating this video! The full rainfly is definitely a great feature I wanna test out too! 🤩

    I just bought a Coleman 6p instant up dark room with FULL FLY.. only 1 video on youtube about this tent.. I am mystified as to why. I would very much appreciate a video on this particular model.. common as flies in Australia yet nobody reviews it.. strange indeed.. love your channel. Cheers.

    First let me congratulate you for another excellent tent product review! Then let me say this. For nearly every one of the larger cabin or dome tents, their greatest weaknesses are at the front doors and at the edges of what first looks like impressive rainfly covers. They are all susceptible to water intrusion at these points in heavy downpours. Wind-driven rain can come through the zippers of most exposed doors and can be blown up underneath many of the rainfly designs. When blown up underneath rainfly edges, the rainwater then goes right through the mess roofs and into the interiors of these tents.
    I would do the following with most of these tents when facing the potential of usage in less than ideal conditions. For the smaller tents I would deploy a 10x10 tarp overhead in either an A frame or diamond configuration. For the larger tents I would do the same with either a 12x12, 14x14 or 16x16 tarp. The diamond configuration would probably give the greatest overhead rain protection. The advantages of using this strategy are as follows:
    1) The tarp will allow the rain to be deflected away from the roof and sidewalls of the tents.
    2) The tarp will allow the occupants to keep the windows/vents open as desired.
    3) The tarp will strengthen the weather resistance of any sunroom/porch area of the tents.
    4) The tarp will increase the tent's ability to deflect wind thus reducing stress on the frames.
    5) The tarp can also be used to increase the insulation value of the tent in cold weather.
    I concede the point that deploying a tarp or multiple tarps for weather protection will the use of 2-4 tent poles and additional stakes-which will also have to be beefier than those supplied with the tents. I also concede the points that the tarp deployment will require additional guy out lines and increased setup and tear-down times. But when I see that no tent in your testing lasted past an hour or so in a heavy downpour, I was reminded of how many campers I've seen with flooded out tents & ruined weekend experiences after trying to camp using only off-the-shelf big-box tents.
    A good tarp or a set of tarps and accessories are like an insurance policy against having one's valuable and delicate sleeping gear and electronicis ruined by a rainy or suddenly stormy night.

    • @CampingGuidance
      @CampingGuidance  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @PhilCherry3 Hi Phil! Thank you for another comment, and for sharing the wonderful tip about the tarp! That's definitely a great idea for less than ideal conditions, and I'll try it out one day when I'm camping in Coleman tents! And the pros and cons you listed are definitely on point too 😊 Although I have tested more expensive tents, and they lasted wonderfully even without any tarps. I think Coleman waterproofing just isn't the best, cos it's not like we pay top dollar for them haha. But they're still worth it for the price though! 😊

    Very impressed w your *_intelligent_* review of 14 (FOURTEEENN!) Coleman tents! I've got the Popup 2P, Sundome 4P, Instant 6P (this one's not in your lineup), and Instant Cabin 10P myself -- I hadn't planned on getting that many, but it just happened over the course of a year during COVID lockdown -- before I knew it I was in possession of all 4! Your review comments were spot-on w those 4 tent models! I was amused at how you dramatized the struggles of folding up the Popup! Perfect! *_BEST_* tent review by far; awesome review 2-thumbs up!

    This is really great. I have the Coleman 4-person pop-up and the 6- person Montana, and I'm looking for something with the easy setup of the first one (or close) and the space and easy take-down of the other.
    The pop-up tents are SO EASY to deploy and they work really well in fair weather camping, but they can be a pain to put away properly. Really low headroom, too.

      Hey Paul! Thanks so much for your comment and the input! I really appreciate it 🥰 Yeah I agree with you! Especially on the low headroom, I really didn't like it that much. Hmm, I do actually have an instant tent video (the Gazelle T4) coming out next week, it easily has more headroom than the Montana 6P, and it's really quick and easy to deploy (not as quick as the pop up though, if you don't mind). It looks like it might suffer from the same issues too. And yes there's an e-port on the 8p! If you look at the marketing picture, there's a small e-port at the bottom right of the tent (the flap over the port is light green). I hope this helps!

      Thank you so much Polly! Glad that you liked this review and also all the rain tests! 😊 Sure! I'll try my best to help you out. For your family (2 adults and 1 dog), I'd recommend at least a 4 to 6P. If it were up to me, I'd go with the 6P for more space, plus I could only stand in the 6P, and not in the smaller tents (like 4P and 2P). As for which type of tent, you can't go wrong with the traditional Sundome, which is super inexpensive and very much value for money. If you expect more rain, then the Skydome would be better! Not the one in this video, but this one here: amzn.to/3XvhAOG
      I hope this helps! That's the general advice I can give, but if you can give me more info on what you prioritize (rain protection, set up, etc.), I can help you out further! 😊

Since this is your first tent, I'd recommend the Sundome 6/4P. It's super simple to set up, take down, and is super inexpensive too. If you're up to the challenge of setting up a screen room tent (which is basically just the Sundome + an extra screen room), you can consider the Carlsbad or Evanston. @@pollypopo Ah, any chance you know what mph the winds are going at? I don't think Coleman tents are made for super strong wind, though moderate winds (20-30mph) shouldn't be too much of a problem. I would HIGHLY recommend guying out the tent though, that helps keep the tent more sturdy. I think most of the smaller Coleman tents are about the same, whether they're the Sundome or Skydome.

    OK so here's my (mental) issue. I like the Dark 6 tent. BUT!! what about the HH ratings of only 1500mm? and what about the all the talk about small ineffective rainflys? I was thinking that i could purchase a large tarp with grommets and have it on standby for a heavy rain. I have become 'fixated' on those two issues. Also, I am in the Philippines so i would think that noseeum screen mesh would be important.

      Oooh! Thanks for the answer Joey! I was wondering if you had gone for the Sundome or Skydome. Hahaha no worries!!! The Skydome really isn't a bad tent, I just thought the Sundome was less expensive and just as well performing. So why not go for the less expensive one? XD hahaha. At least that was what I thought when I made my recommendations! So please don't worry. I think the Skydome is super cool too! Let me know how it goes for you? Ok yes another comment from me after watching with my wife. She pointed out that a chart at the end of each test would help her understand and track how the tents were doing. Kind of like project farm does with his tests. ( Edit, yes you kind of do this but they go by so fast she couldn't tead them or pause on them well. ) That way you can see what is a deal breaker for you. For me it is air flow and water proof as Ohio.
    A person who is going to carry the tent a long distance might have low weight as the most important thing.

    • @CampingGuidance
      @CampingGuidance  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Mike! Thank you so much for another comment, I really appreciate you watching my videos and giving me feedback! 😊 Oh dear I thought I slowed down the charts already, I didn't realize they were still too quick on this video :( Sorry about that! How long should I leave them up on the screen for? Btw how were the charts for you in the 6P video? Were they too fast as well?

    • @mikehenthorn1778
      @mikehenthorn1778 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CampingGuidance yes the charts were too fast in both. TH-cam doesn't let you fine tune the scroll bar so it is hard to go back. My wife has some eye trouble so it is even harder for her.
      For the timing of charts I would look at the you tube channel " project farm " for an example of easy to read charts. He tends to talk about the items a bit with the chart up so you can see what he is talking about.
      I'm looking to get back into camping and motorcycle camping so your videos are very helpful. Just watching some videos by the company you would think Coleman tents don't leak. I don't know your climate but Ohio can dump more rain in 10min than your hose in 20. Some of it at a sharp angle. I looks like I will have to add a separate tarp over the door side of a Coleman 6 person sundome to stay dry after treating the tent and seams.

    • @CampingGuidance
      @CampingGuidance  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikehenthorn1778 Thanks for the heads up on the Project Farm channel Mike! I'll definitely check it out and try to leave the charts up for longer too. Just worried about my limited editing skills though haha XD But I'm so sorry about making them too fast for you and your wife, I'll work on it!
      But thank you so much for your lovely comment! I'm really glad that you like my videos, it means a lot 🥰 And yeah! Coleman even has like a wind and rain test video, but I think their rain test definitely wasn't heavy enough. It lasted only a few minutes if I'm not wrong. I usually try not to camp out in rain, but sometimes it can be unpredictable especially with the monsoons near my area. And yeah! Treating the seams + adding the tarp is definitely a fantastic idea. You should be able to get through a decent rainstorm with that 😊
