It might be a representation of how much death and destruction she has witnessed not of cities, but of the people she cares about. Like how would you feel when you see two of your friends died on the same day as losing the place you considered home? But she still has the light of hope in her eyes, hope that tomorrow is better than today.
It's also possible her eyes could work like the Sharingan in Naruto where overuse can remove the light from their eyes and eventually blind them. It would be a good way to add depth and not make Ruby's eyes such a convenient plot device to use when the story makers back themselves into a corner.

i love the concept of silver eyes in the show, it is one of the very first things we can notice because a character pointed them out in the beginning and i've grown to like it a lot, i don't know if anyone else feels this way.
Honestly the conversation between Ruby and Maria is probably my favorite scene in the entire series. Especially with the Red Like Roses motif playing in the background.
Silver eyes are literally the rarest eye color. I’ve always wanted either that color or different colored eyes. I always thought those were the best (I’ve got nothing against other eye colors)
Boxes I think it’s the second rarest I can’t really remember but I read it from somewhere that both purple and silver were the two of the rarest eye colors.
It's silly but, seeing CInder turn and just yell "WHAT ?!" before being possibily obliterated...made me laugh the first time. It's just...she was such a monster at this point of the serie, being the only mastermind we known of, not having lost a single full fight before this point, executing her whole plan almost flawlessly as long as she involved herself...She was extremely intimidating and honestly hateable after what she just did. So yeah seeing such a character just go "WHAT ?!" with a shocked expression before getting owned, was too perfect to not laugh.
Me watching first season: Silver eyes. Cool. Me seeing Ruby grow wings from her eyes: *Rubs eyes* MOM! I AM SEEING HALLUCINATIONS!!! RUBY HAS FEATHERS. GROWING FROM HER EYES!
3:38 Think about the people who love you, focus on the thought of them, the way they make you feel 3:50 First person she thinks of is wiess Do with that as you will
The first people she thinks of is Taiyang and Yang. Then her team. And when she finally focus, after remembering the suffering of Jaune, the wounds of Blake and Yang, the depression of Yang and finally the death of Pyrrha and Peny, the first thing she thinks about is her team, then the time Weiss finally started accepting her as the leader of team RWBY (kinda important for her, but not from the shipping point of view), Blake behaving more carefree and Yang being Yang. I know people like their ships and all that, but at least try to not twist facts to make them work. If it happens, it happens, if it doesn't then it doesn't, frankly at this point I don't care, but *don't* twist facts. And if you meant when she thinks of the members of her team individually... do you realize that she thinks of them in order of the team name, Weiss, Blake and Yang, WBY. Because, even if we were to accept the shipping of Whiterose in that scene, if you really think that Ruby loves Blake more than Yang... well, then I have a bridge in the desert you may be interested in buying.
Me, too. Like mother, like daughter, right? I wish they can make a episode is how or when Summer Rose died. Did she die in a battle or was she targeted because of her eyes, like Maria Calavera AKA The Grimm Reaper? No one knows, right? 😔
@@bettinamitchell3535 spoliers so dont read if you dont want In season 7 qrow mentioned summer went on a mysterious mission, where she have been slained
Why does the light coming from her eyes look like wings the first time she uses the silver-eyed warrior power and every time after, it just looks like a dispersed beam of light? Also, why don't all the silver-eyed warriors (if they know about the power) wear a blindfold/sunglasses/use color contacts to hide them? Then again, there probably aren't many of them, and they probably don't know that they're being hunted or even that they have magical eye powers.
Couldn't tell you about the wings, but the reason I thin they don't wear blindfolds most of the time is that they've established in the show that the silver eyes only trigger around Grymm and Grymm infested humans. IE Cinder. But if they were being hunted I'm guessing they would want to hide them. My fan theory is that Salem knows that the silver eyes are a threat to her, so she sent her minions to eliminate the wielders, IE Tock and Maria. Just a theory of mine.
Also, for the wings thing, it might just be limitations of the software they used for seasons 1-3. They switched softwares after that, so that's why the light looks like light and not just... wings
And I think the contacts or blindfold thing are because the silver eyes look like gray eyes so someone wouldn’t be able to tell if they were gray or silver unless they know the color really well like the reaper had to ask Ruby what color her eyes were when she probably could’ve seen what color they were or the head master had to ask before he took a closer look
It's possible that the light came out as wings that time bc her eyes were closed and she was crying, the light might literally have came out the sides like tears. (Made myself sad)
The scene where Ruby is thinking about all the good times after she summons djinn always makes me tear up for some reason, maybe it's because the way the music begins building up, maybe it's because those scenes are just so adorable. I don't know, all I know is that no matter what, even if I know it's coming, that scene always makes me tear up.
Monty already confirmed that Summer Rose is deceased. Sorry to rain on your parade but it’s the truth. But I’m quite disappointed myself. Summer (And Raven) are my favorite characters. And now we finally have the glimpse of Summer Rose; the glimpse that I have been waiting for a long long long long time.
Silver eyes have a clear connection with light, as affirmed in the latest volume. The light brother had the same eyes, and the same animation as when Ruby last activated her silver eyes. So far, there has always been a force of darkness present when they've been activated. Cinder, for instance, had a grimm arm when Ruby used her silver eyes on her again. Also, Salem stated that Cinder was more affected by the silver eyes because she had become a spring maiden. Why? The dark brother said that magic was his gift to humanity. It stands to reason then, if magic is associated with darkness, then those that possess it are more susceptible to the power of light/silver eyes. What do you think? EDIT: oh yeah, not to mention it's triggered in connection with the intention of preserving life - just how the light brother was associated with life, and dwelt by the pool of life which granted immortality. Which is inherently opposed to the power of destruction (associated with the dark brother).
Dude, I'm so happy I'm not the only one that thinks this! "My gift to them" was more than just a passing comment. It's the perfect little nod back to Salem telling Cinder she's vulnerable now that she's a maiden, and now we know the maidens are wielding the same magic that was taken away from humanity v1.0. It makes perfect sense that anything powered by the dark brother could be equally opposed or even obliterated by the powers of the light brother, including the concept of magic.
@@rajeswary6085 no she didn't, watch the chapters again, she killed the fake spring maiden. vernal, while the real spring maiden, Raven, beat her and got away safely.
PalPlays 1.silver eyed. 2. REACT to attacks almost before they happened. 3. desire to protect friends/family/life itself. (4. Every time that they used their eyes they were outmatched by an overwhelming opponent, even though it is not stated as a requirement, it might as well be one) I wonder who this ability reminds me of?
I think, because that silver eyed people are meant to lead the life of a warrior, then the god of light gifted those who *could* defeat Salem the silver eyes. But to achieve this power they had to survive the unthinkable and prove they were worthy of the eyes and the power
Something that resonated with me was that the song sung here when ruby steps up and shows the culmination of her time with her friends and team giving her the strength to awaken the power within her eyes...is the song written to honor Monty Oum and the dream he had that created RWBY. He created this world and is responsible for the flame of hope that fuels Ruby's power.
Honestly I keep thinking that Ruby and all of the people with Silver Eyes are sort of like the rwby versions of sharingan, byakugan, and rinnegan users in having strange ocular abilities, strange in a certain point of view, such as turning enemies into ashes such as Grimm through the silver eyes and through the Amaterasu with the Sharingan/mangekyo/eternal mangekyo sharingan
Bro i remember when i went to see the sixth season premiere in the movies and i was so happy to meet other fans since there werent any in my school. i also remember when life was live.
@@mariesmosh1334 except the silver eyes doesnt work on all magic. If it did it vould activate anywhere with something as a little dust present. The show says it only works on grimm and will activate only if theres grimm around. It worked on cinder because her hand is made of grimm.
@@cosmicgenesis1581 Actually, not quite. At the Fall of Beacon, Cinder's hand and arm was still her own hand and arm. She just had a Grimm implant gifted from Salem that allowed her to steal the maidens' powers. It wasn't until Ruby "laser--beamed" Cinder's arm into oblivion that Salem replaced her arm with a Grimm arm.
@@ajvlogs957 uh, no. Ruby isn't fighting Cinder while in a "first time silver eye use" coma, not to mention Salem literally says that Cinder is vulnerable to the silver eyes. Not to mention Cinder wouldn't freak out every single time Ruby attempts to use the silver eyes if it didn't nearly destroy her atop Beacon Tower. Further, it states on Cinder's page in the RWBY wiki that "When Beacon fell, Ruby Rose unleashed the power of her Silver Eyes, putting Cinder into a state of near death." You're just plain wrong.
Very few moments of this series make me shed a tear... The battle with the Nevermore for some reason, the moment where Ruby shouts "leave her alone!" at another Nevermore, and finally the moment where Ruby sees her mom and those eyes burst out.
I like how Ruby having silver eyes also kinda works into her Little Red Riding Hood allusion bc like, one of the types of Grimm she has faced the most are Beowolves, which are basically werewolves, and what is used to kill werewolves? *_silver_* _(i dunno if this was rly obvious to everyone else and im just slow but yeahhh )_
Remember : Light only exists in darkness. Note this: You don't need light to know it's dark. Light can't consume darkness. But accompany it. No darkness, no light. No light, darkness to no end.
Ooh Granny Reaper was smart. "perhaps there was something you weren't seeing." That is true, because of the bug grim Cinder had fused with after taking half the maiden powers, she was part grim and as such, she was affected by the light.
Before it took the death of someone to get it to activate. But now all she needs to do is think of her friends. I would call this progress but I can’t help the fact that she didn’t really do any real training just a small talk and then she just automatically learned how to do it. I can’t deal with that
From the explanation given by maria, it's not something you activate. My understanding is that when the silver-eyed warrior feels extremely protective, the light instinctively comes out to delete the Grimm, in the same way that the Grimm (when not explicitly controlled by Salem) instinctively want to destroy life. It's not really Ruby doing anything; she's just releasing the God of Light's light from within her when feeling protective against Grimm.
I'm still overthinking the fact we never got a conclusive answer to who sent Tock. It was probably Salem, I know buuut... there's something so enticing about the theory that Ozpin was so afraid of the maidens being taken down by silver eyes (god of darkness=magic=the maiden powers... makes sense that's why Cinder kept being affected and why Salem warned her that her new abilities came with that crippling weakness to silver eyes) that he himself set out to erradicate the bloodlines before they could kill his maidens. In the present he's reformed, but damn if we find out he killed Summer...
slauter 19 THIS NEEDS MORE ATTENTION!! I tried explaining it to a friend and their like “No Cinder was a grim before” even tho Salem making her into part grimm
Kalaika Allin That’s the thing cinder wasn’t a grim before her arm got turned into one. So it really confusing as to what happened to here. Unless cinder was punished by Salem and Salem took her eye. But the sliver eyes couldn’t have injured her.
If you remember the episode where Cinder took the maiden powers from Amber, you'll see that some form of Grimm insect was used to do it. So to me it means that the Grimm thing had to have been merged with her in order to allow her to take said powers, making it where she could be affected by the Silver eyes.
Oxygen Theif that’s is such a small grim her human self was much greater that. The silver eyes shouldn’t have cause such damage to her. Why her eye and not her arm. She put on a glove for that to happen. Plus her aura should be reduced lesser than normal due to having grim apart of her and that should have shown. There has to be something deeper than that one incident
Eh, honestly? When Ozpin mentioned her Silver Eyes I thought it's just a mark of extraordinary combat prowess or something, not a nuke in her eyes.
WHAT THE F-BOOM
I thought he is just amaze by her eye colour or something

When I saw her at first in that scene I was like “please, face reveal” then when she turned around I was like “YES, FINALLY, I WAS WAITING FOR THIS!”
It’s amazing
Everytime someone mentions siliver eyed warriors I flashback to Claymore.

it's even cooler when you realise jin is played by galatea's english voice actor
Honestly the conversation between Ruby and Maria is probably my favorite scene in the entire series. Especially with the Red Like Roses motif playing in the background.
Is it just me or is Ruby one of the palest girls ever?
looks like she overdid her sunscreen
Okay so i wasn't the only one wondering about that but it seems that in the later seasons she gets some color in her skin by the vid
Her skin was extremely pale in Season 1
She now has a skin around Season 4 and counting
Someone hasn't looked at Weiss in awhile.
That's how I look lol
OMG LIKE SAME!!! I was just like wait..... she’s a lot paler than her mom.... like in the cutscene where they showed summer rose
Silver eyes are literally the rarest eye color. I’ve always wanted either that color or different colored eyes. I always thought those were the best (I’ve got nothing against other eye colors)
i thought purple was the rarest. They're some side effect from some disease, but i forgot the name of it.
Boxes I think it’s the second rarest I can’t really remember but I read it from somewhere that both purple and silver were the two of the rarest eye colors.
Lmfao what, purple doesnt exist, and green is the rarest eye color. There's no silver as well, just grey
Elizabeth Taylor had violet eye color and she was not an albino. It is a very rare eye color.
Rare eye color trait in reality tend to associate with rare disease or the lost pigments in eyes. You sure you want it?
Ruby: "I just stared at death in the face!"
Me watching first season:
Silver eyes. Cool.
Me seeing Ruby grow wings from her eyes:
*Rubs eyes* MOM! I AM SEEING HALLUCINATIONS!!! RUBY HAS FEATHERS. GROWING FROM HER EYES!

@@kurtlim7 and wiess is the one ruby has been head over heels obsessed with

@@lenlimbo I think they were talking about the scene in the basement with the apathy when Maria asks what colour Rubys eyes were

Summer Rose wait aren’t u dead?

Me, too.
Like mother, like daughter, right?
I wish they can make a episode is how or when Summer Rose died.
Did she die in a battle or was she targeted because of her eyes, like Maria Calavera AKA The Grimm Reaper?

They switched softwares after that, so that's why the light looks like light and not just... wings
@@listener1215 I personally liked the wings look of it...😶
And I think the contacts or blindfold thing are because the silver eyes look like gray eyes so someone wouldn’t be able to tell if they were gray or silver unless they know the color really well like the reaper had to ask Ruby what color her eyes were when she probably could’ve seen what color they were or the head master had to ask before he took a closer look
“Ruby, what color are your eyes?”
“They’re... silver...”
How can summer be your favorite character when you know literally nothing of her ? xD
Dude, It’s none of your business. This argument is now adjourned.

that moment when u realize this whole time Ruby had the same eyes as a god
Silver eyes= God eyes.
Silver Eyes = Nuke in your head
Silver Eyes = Ultra Instinct
Sliver eyes= nuke
Yellow/gold eyes= this is MY game, MY system(sao reference)
Finally, someone who thinks that! Nobody else I've talked to seems to agree!
Cinder is the fall maiden, not the spring maiden

Ga ga ga ga gachidaze
Preflexes she can sense something’s gonna happen before it happens like spider-man’s spider sense
Ruby is precious and should be protected at all cost
I think, because that silver eyed people are meant to lead the life of a warrior, then the god of light gifted those who *could* defeat Salem the silver eyes. But to achieve this power they had to survive the unthinkable and prove they were worthy of the eyes and the power
Ozpin: “You have silver eyes”
Me: well that will come in a few volumes
*Ruby uses eyes on cinder*
Me: I knew it
Something that resonated with me was that the song sung here when ruby steps up and shows the culmination of her time with her friends and team giving her the strength to awaken the power within her eyes...is the song written to honor Monty Oum and the dream he had that created RWBY.

Ive watched this a few times and the show twice but even still that one at the end with the music still gave me shivvers of joy.

Well it makes sense her eyes worked on Cinder. After all, magic- the powers of the maidens- came from the god of darkness originally.
Oh shit, you're right
@@mariesmosh1334 except the silver eyes doesnt work on all magic.
@@jdoggivjc At the fall of beacon, it wasn't Ruby's silver eyes that hurt Cinder, they (presumably) fought afterwards and ruby beat her
@@ajvlogs957 uh, no.

Either an angel or a Goddess, but I don't think you can be both.

The scene with Pyrrha when ruby first used her powers it will ALWAYS give me goosebumps
I like how Ruby having silver eyes also kinda works into her Little Red Riding Hood allusion bc like, one of the types of Grimm she has faced the most are Beowolves, which are basically werewolves, and what is used to kill werewolves? *_silver_*

Note this: You don't need light to know it's dark.
Light can't consume darkness. But accompany it.
No darkness, no light.
No light, darkness to no end.
Brilliant montage! The final scene with Ruby's mom in a flashback has made me cry!
I feel like in dark places for a nice touch the animators should make her eyes glow (since silver reflects)
Ooh Granny Reaper was smart. "perhaps there was something you weren't seeing."
That is true, because of the bug grim Cinder had fused with after taking half the maiden powers, she was part grim and as such, she was affected by the light.
"So, how do I laser beam monsters with my eyeballs" XD
_Prepare yourself for my Plot-Beam!_
*_JIIIIIIIIIIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM_*
*Tfw you experience a significant emotional event.*
"Think about the people who love you. About how life is beautiful."
_[Ruby's focus turns to Weiss]_
"Silver is for monsters"
Damn she'd make an excellent Witcher
Unfortunately she'd lose her innocence and become all serious and maybe emotionless

god the scene in the end always makes me tear up a little, the music and the pictures just everything about it
Now that I think of it how did ruby injure cinders eye if silver eyes could only affect grim
slauter 19 THIS NEEDS MORE ATTENTION!!
She already had Grimm attached to her. The spider she used to suck up the fall maiden’s powers was probably Grimm

The callback to the first OP was so good the first time I saw this scene.
