Dude in the second story got a free room in area 51. His assistant must have been on the line with the Terrans and a Galactic Council rep about uplifts, sapient race laws, and his shit working conditions effectively throwing his ex-employer under the bus for being a douche.
In the second story I bet the assistant knew what was going to happen and decided to put him in line for the equivalent of the Darwin Award.
