Heard this one in a commercial port town "When the Chief Engineer stop swearing at the engine, worry." and "There are two ranks in the engine room, Chief Engineer, and everybody else."
The first story ending reminded me of one of the Babylon 5 sequels, a Minbari makes a joke that during their war with earth they were constantly mystified about how much damage it took to kill an earther warship. He now believed he figured it out, human ships were made of 'Duct Tape'
I absolutely loved that someone made a story about gremlins! Pre-WW2 mythology! However, these gremlins were much different than the old school ones. Loved both stories and all their innuendos.
The gremlins story was a sequel to an older story, the idea of which being that all the other races in the Galaxy were massive, and so humans basically became gremlins, onboard their ships and basically getting into places where the bigger sapient races couldn't get to, fixers and the likes
@@S4t4n_NZ yep 10mm socket has a meme going just saying if you want crazy tape zip system has some crazy osb tape granted its 26$ per 90 foot roll but is definitely tuffer than duck tape
As a maintenance engineer I had a good selection of hammers I passed most of them on when I retired kept my trusty 2lb hammer tho for sentimental reasons 😊
I am a new construction plumber... Can I show you the view from the roof of the building you designed and I, and my fellow other tradesmen have to figure out how you thought you can fit 20 gallons of stuff in a 1 gallon hat?
The story makes a direct reference to Star Wars, which, judging by the comments, nobody even picked up on, and your biggest surprise is that the author renamed Pirate Bay to Brigand Port? For anyone curious, the Star Wars reference was when he made a request for a part from a YT 1300 freighter. That is the class of ship the Millenium Falcon is. Heh, the dirty side of my mind just kicked in... since many of these tales depict some of the species of Xenos as having a carapace, I guess a galactic website named PrawnHub wouldn't be out of the question. Badum-dum tiss. I'll see myself out.
If it don't work, just use a bigger hammer. Yup ! That's the way to go. Then... If it moves but shouldn't, duck tape, if it don't move but should, WD-40 !
Duct tape is useful to repair humans, & animals as well as ships. It’s fun using a magazine, duct tape for someone’s injury. At ER. “What the heck is this?” “What was at hand that works”. I broke some fingers. Dr. Has X-rays. “It’s splinted just fine as is. “

“If the engineer is running, follow”
If the head engineer doesn't have enough breath to swear, things are damned serious.

Competent engineers that can get into all the nooks and crannies are a godsend.
"Beat to fit, paint to match", is a popular motto at places I've worked. Unfortunately it works out like that because cad is not real life.
yarp
Thanks. That was informative. I love to learn.
Damn,son truth.
I have worked at a few places where they've added "if that doesnt work, prod the engineer" (cuz, y'know, production engineers)
I done plenty of cardboard added design work.
Every ship captain hiring a human engineer should be handed a box set of MacGyver as required viewing!

I had thought that the author had mixed up Gremlins and Brownies, but that makes way more sense.
Ha the brigand port = pirate bay, nice.
that it is
The one where we're tiny are always interesting to listen to.
I was thinking coffee or pringle chips but duck tape is pretty funny too
duct take is always needed
@@AgroSquerril especially if you get the good stuff (metallic with string very strong)
Zip system tape if your needing something stronger
My guess was a 10mm socket

3:32 Ha, YT-1300 is the same type of ship as the milenium falcon.
Ahh duct tape,,,, did you know that when properly applied and reinforced it can whithstand up to 2000 psi?
I read a story that had a punch line about the next evolution of duct tape know as spacer tape
John ringo
to quote the engineer from tf2: Use a gun. And if that don't work, use more gun.
Baling wire must have been found at the first stop.
Don't all universal repair kits have shoestrings, chewing gum and duck tape?
For gods sake, don't leave out the paper clip!
@@midgefidget5796 good point.
And baling wire.
Don't forget the bailing wire. Gotsta have bailing wire! Oops, I should have read the other comments first.
Also, don't forger the WD-40 and lighter fluid.
Duct tape is always a good thing to have on hand.
The Incompetent Engineer's Only Rule "If it doesn't fit force it. If it breaks it needed replacing anyway"
Is no one else going to mention the reference to the Millennium Falcon?

The first story's a good one. I love the Gremlins. Many thanks!
If you can’t fix it with a hammer it’s an electrical fault
Hammer home the Algorithm11! Gremlins to maximum!

Guess when you sail the sea of stars the old site doesn't just quite cut it
