  • Are iPhone cases becoming more of a problem than a solution? In this video, we dive into the evolving relationship between iPhones and phone cases. From MagSafe compatibility issues to the new camera control button, Apple’s design choices are making it harder for third-party cases to keep up. We’ll explore how these changes impact the iPhone experience and whether investing in Apple’s own pricey cases is really worth it.

    A cracked screen is so much more hideous looking than (any) phone case and the only way to truly protect your screen is to use a case. You need to be really unlucky to drop the phone protected by a case (without a panzerglass) in a way, that would crack the screen. Panzerglass on the other hand doesn't help at all if the phone for example takes a hit where the glass and frame meet. Nice video of a real problem.

    am I the only one that thinks the clear cases with magsafe are absolutely hideous and tacky with that ring there? most causes that have it are super ugly for some reason.

    • @JessicaFEREM
      @JessicaFEREM 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      the only indicator I need on an opaque case is a ring on the inside. I see some with rings on the outside and it looks so ugly.

    • @justkittensbeingkittens5892
      @justkittensbeingkittens5892 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ugly definitely lol, I have a gaudy af gold trim clear case. I put sparkly blue nail polish in and it looks SO much better. It was $12 for a very solid 360 case though so I ain’t complaining. I also got my phone refurbished so it’s scratched already so idrc

      same! i find them so so ugly and just unnecessary

    • @adamc91
      @adamc91 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I used to think the big, prominent ring was ugly and unnecessary too… until I started using MagSafe accessories for the first time with my 16 P/M. Now it doesn’t bother me in the slightest, especially because it’s normally covered over when I’m using either my wallet or power bank (both have a built-in stand as does my case, so that’s handy when I’m charging with MagSafe at night too!).
      Plus, if you think about it… it makes total sense why there’s a ring - because of the magnets, although seeing the magnets rather than a bold, coloured ring might be cool too!
      For a lot of cases It could be made much more subtly by matching the case’s colour rather than contrasting it, often with white… But there must be cases sold where the cases and its ring are matching colours, or very closely matched (making it barely noticeable the case is MagSafe compatible).
      Plus, nowadays I don’t think there’s barely any difference in price between MagSafe and non-MagSafe cases, a few quid if that - for most case brands.
      Embrace the ring 😂 it’s actually a really cool and versatile feature!

    This is most definitely on the case manufacturers. Apple isn’t locking them out of using these features of implementing ways to make them work with the cases better. And for many people these features aren’t even important, I doubt grandma is gonna care about MagSafe wallets or a camera shutter button working.

    I like the video however I disagree with almost 100% of it. Devices are not robust anymore due to the glass back which is why cases are more essential now than ever. You can also get a fully featured budget case, such as a JETech case, for $15. That includes MagSafe compatibility. Apple’s own cases are more of a fashion statement however they do not provide more protection or features than budget cases.

      I paid $950 for my iPhone 15 ($99 of that came with a 2-year protection plan from Walmart) and considering that I upgraded from an 8 Plus I knew that I was going to have more protection than usual. I always put a phone in a case anyway (always go with Otterbox) but the Otterbox case that I bought for my 15 didn’t come with a built-in screen protector so I decided I would get a privacy screen protector for extra security and a camera lens protector knowing how much bigger the cameras are, the camera bumps, and how much more expensive it is to replace the cameras on all of the newer iPhones from the 10 onward.

    I have the 16 pro max and a compatible clear MagSafe case from Spigen. I’ve had no issues with anything you’ve mentioned. Also the camera button is very handy, I use it multiple times every day. Lastly the cut out in the case for the button doesn’t majorly degrade from the overall protection and it doesn’t block access to the button.
    If you’re buying a $2000 phone don’t cheap out on an inferior $5 case 🤷‍♂️
    Just spend the $30-$60 for a decent one.

    Honestly, this is one of your worst videos so far. This is sad since all your other vids are mostly great. You keep repeating yourself to a level where i cant get my self to watch the video to the end. It actually feels sort of ai written. Honstly, if your going to buy a $1000+ iPhone you should be able to afford a §50 case. Magsafe compatibility is also no argument anymore since even cheap $10 on amazon have it. The camera control button on the 16 is a bit more tricky since you more or less need a sapphire cover for it to still work without an ugly cutout, but there are some really good manufacturers who deliver great cases with phenomenal protection for less money. if not the manufacturers are to blame not apple since the arent gatekeeping on any case features whatsoever

    as i said previously, ive been caseless for 5 years, 3 of which were my previous iphone 12 pro which never once needed service and even with heavy scuffing by the time i traded it in, received full value from apple. my new phone, a 15 pro, was dropped once early on but apple care meant a screen replacement cost the same at a screen protector would have and ive been accident free since. i get a lot of looks running a caseless phone but honestly its been really uneventful and i have stopped thinking about it altogether.

    So they added a useless button that most phone camera users won't even use because it's too combersome... but they won't add a power button fingerprint reader which would still fit in with apple's ecosystem and still allow for nice high quality tempered glass screen protectors. they require you to click the power button to confirm with FaceID a lot of the time, so it would literally be a seamless transition, as well as adding another factor in security if the user wants both to be required for purchases as an example.

    I have the iphone 16 pro and the case does not effect me at all. I use a customized clear case from Casetify that has the rubber corner protections and it works amazing, Is it a 70$ case, Yes. But i would much rather apple staying how they are and letting us users customize it how we like then them selling a stupid ugly mag safe case that they do now that looks very bad.

    And this is why samsung now put magnets in the case, and not in the phone.

    MagSafe is only made good for one function when you drive. You have easy phone attachment that can charge your phone. This is the only good use for MagSafe. It is good for the average show. Every other use is not useful enough. Of course they could be like a camera tripod, next accessory full content, creative that can be useful or maybe some other things but it’s only useful for one thing get a case And get a cow charger and that’s it. Don’t expect it to do everything.

    Apple cases are priced similarly to all other major brands such as ZAGG or Casemate being 35-55 dollars. Which to be completely honest with you isn't terrible, we are talking about an 800-1200 dollar phone. If you really wanna same money just get the 10 a month apple care. No case, no screen protector. $29 if you break it. I upgrade every year and pay 120 for apple care the same if I got a good quality case and screen protector.

    You don’t have to use a case…
    My personal recommendation for cases is the Dbrand Grip case.

    I disagree with you on Magsafe. Maybe it was a problem for cases when it was first introduced - I'm not sure on that. But now, you can find plenty of cheap cases that are Magsafe compatible. It really doesn't add much cost for the customer. When I first got access to Magsafe last year (after upgrading to a 15 Pro from an SE), I was looking at slightly higher end cases. (Nothing ridiculous, but I ended up going for a $60 Mous case, to give you an idea of the price range I was looking at.) I wanted something protective, made well, and that fit my style. And pretty much any case in that range included Magsafe support.
    I think the camera button is a bit harder to elegantly work around. But I'm sure the case manufacturers will figure something out over time. Apple didn't just "not consider cases" when adding that button in. They obviously made their own cases that accommodate it. It's just not Apple's job to worry about third-party case manufacturers. The case manufacturers are the ones that have to design their products around the phone. Not the other way around.

    Did you write all this?? Borderline chatgpt ai quality 👍 There were some super valid points that lowkey blew my mind. Like if we’re just gonna put a case on, why isn’t there just a super durable/cheaper option available? And boxing out their customers with high priced cases by not giving 3rd parties a decent start? Legit next level takes right there 🤯

      Not a knock on his video at all. But it’s not apples job to help third party manufacturers. They aren’t stopping them from implementing things like MagSafe at all.

    Almost halfway through the video, I will say, I tested a demo unit of the new iPhone 16s, and they all have the same flaw with the button: barely wants to work with my type of skin. Now, I'm more of an Android user since even the best from Samsung can be cheap as a Nokia and more durable than a Nokia (trust me, the Nokia 5 is a horrible phone), but with the iPhone, it's literally the iPhone 15 with a slightly improved camera, really those 48MP pixels used to be on my old Galaxy A12, not with the best camera software by Samsung, but they we're there. Another flaw Apple forgot inside the OS on these models, is that you could completely ignore the camera button (which is the real selling point in these iPhones..) and use either the on-screen controls, or the volume buttons to act as a shutter button. The novelty of having the camera button on the latest iPhones, is just a novelty to say "Oh yeah! They improved the iPhone!". At least, if you're an absolute idiot and don't try the phone inside a store. So, to cap this all off, there's no more sense of getting the latest iPhone. Stay on the iPhone 15 if you already got the 15. That's all.

    I have a samsung z fold 5, and like 99% of the cases for my phone are completely worthless trash. cases *need* adhesive to properly affix to the phone, but many of the cheaper cases don't come with it, and it's a 50/50 chance it'll actually come with it.
    not to mention the screen protectors have squared off edges on one side meanwhile the cases expect you to use rounded off edges, and the product pages don't tell you if it's case compatible or they lie about functionality.
    since phones are fairly strong these days, I'm just sticking to skins. at the very least a nice skin will keep most functionality and allow me to personalize a little bit, even though I'll probably end up getting a clear skin so I can show off my phone while also not scratching it up like mad from actually using this $1800 hunka junk
