Number One Disco Song for 5 straight weeks in January, 1976! Can't beat that! Produced by Dave Crawford, who went on produce and write Candi Staton's "Young Hearts Run Free" later that year. (Busy year for Dave Crawford!)
Reminds me of my father, whom I love dearly, and how he'd sing these songs on the weekends after a week of grueling mettle-testing work. I miss hearing my father's deep voice and the smell of breakfast in the kitchen on Saturday mornings. May The Creator heal him completely and give him a clean bill of health soon. I look forward to hearing my father sing again.
ATTENTION: YOU CANNOT LISTEN TO THEIR SONGS AND SIT STILL!!!!!!! JOE KEEPS ME DANCIN'.... his voice is so powerful & beautiful. I LOVE THIS GROUP SO MUCH. *OLD SCHOOL*
Joe Ligon was a very handsome man... A great voice, had it goin on, etc he could've been my husband lol. But nah I'm so sorry for his passing, I remember when he passed but we're at 5 years already? Wow.
Thank you for this beautiful posting. I returned to the US following my USAF service in 1975. I worked the door at a great NJ disco and this was the greatest song ever played from '75 to '76. I was one the few folks who knew that The Mighty Clouds of Joy were one of the greatest Gospel groups in America. Thank you and God Bless.
That crowd was lit! That’s what I’m talking about. Now everyone too cute to get into it. I’m so happy that this music is here for us that truly touches the soul
Yes Lord So Glad I Had The Chance To Meet The Mighty Clouds Of Joy A Few Times Years Ago When They Would Come To My Hometown Of Pontiac, michigan In 2006, 2010 And I Saw Them In Detroit In 2008. I Had The Opportunity To Sing A Few Bars Of Ride The Mighty High With Them. 🙏🏾🙏🏾
I have this concert on VHS tape. It was so hard to find, but so worth it! It's called Gospel and has Mighty Clouds of Joy, James Cleveland, The Clark Sisters and Shirley Ceasar. AMAZING!
the original version Mighty Clouds of Joy was done with most of the Philadelphia musicians who backed up the O'Jays, Trammps, Spinners and many other great groups!
MY FATHER'S FAVORITE SONG AND DON'T LET THE GREEN GRASS FOOL YOU. AND HE LOVED SAM COOKE AND THE SOUL STERRIS. AND THE GIRLS CAN'T HELP IT. LIL RICHARD. YOUR SO FINE THE FALCONS. HONEY LOVE. MONEY HONEY. SEXUAL HEALING. LOVE IS IN THE AIR. DARLING YOU ARE MY SHINING STAR. LET'S JUST KISS AND SAY GOODBYE. DO YOU REALLY MEAN GOODBYE. SPRING AFFAIR. THIS IS A MANS WORLD. GOING TO HAVE A FUNKY GOOD TIME. AND MANY MORE REST IN PEACE DADDY J.B
Rest in Peace Joe Ligon. We miss you.

The Mighty High is destroying Corona!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love these fellows, especially for their devotion to the Lord Jesus, for dedicating their gifts to the Ministry of Jesus Christ Of Nazareth
Soul music in every sense of the word, you could never be sad listening to this.

Interesting.
That why I hear that Philly soul!
It is a shame that we went from a singer singing like this to people saying a whole bunch of curse words really fast.

Jerry Garcia Band does an awesome rendition of this. Jerry does the lead guitar justice on this tune.
