- Ring in the New Year with Czardas by Vittorio Monti, in an arrangement for baroque orchestra by Hanneke van Proosdij. Alana Youssefian & Kati Kyme, soloists.
The Czardas is a traditional Hungarian folk dance, and the dance was set by many Classical composers. Monti published his version in 1904, dedicated to the virtuoso violinist and singer, Juliette Dantin (Monti used the spelling "Czardas" on the title page, although nowadays we see "Csárdás" as well).
The transparent and vibrant sound of the baroque strings is a nice bridge between the early 20th century sound of the Classical world and the folk music sound of the musicians who performed the traditional dances.

Although this was written int 1904, I REALLY like the way it sounds on Baroque violin! And the cello variation is priceless. You just don't get to see cello get after it like that very often.

Finally an accurate performance!!! This is why I love Early Music AND Voices of Music, I would like to know what type of stands are you using, its a AB stereo pair it's stands right behind the harpsichord bench, what type of stands you are using

A lot of the mic stands are Calumet/Manfrotto that we bought more than twenty years ago...don't know if they make them anymore but there's a basic Ravelli stand that is not bad. The shock mounts for the Sennheisers came with the mics (also quite old now). They are very good but really there is not much difference with an aftermarket shockmount. The T-bar is just a basic K&M. The short stands are the basic pie plate types with a weighted base.

It's a crossover; in Monti's time the strings and violins would have been closer to the baroque one than the modern ones, but definitely not baroque, of course. OTOH, the folk tunes on which Czardas is based would have been folk instruments.
