I remade the rainger fx reverb as a ableton rack because of mk.gee. it's the thing that stood out the most especially in the live versions. You make a parallel rack with a gate then reverb then fuzz.
Envelope Follower is so nice! That feels like one of the key parts of his sound, there's so much dynamic going on, allowing the loud parts to really open up and burst through.
I’m sure you probably know but for anyone wondering how he gets that touch sensitive headroom, he runs his guitar through a tascam portastudio. When he hits real hard it causes the porta to clip.
Nice work! FTR, changing your tuning from E to D is just one step (whole step), or two half steps (Eb would be a half step). So mk.gee's tuning down to C is two steps down, or 4 half steps.
bro in the next ones open the plugins, i know it doesn't make much difference but it's good to know what you've actually done, please. thank you so much for it btw
one thing mk.gee has said is that tho he uses a jazz chorus, he only uses it for monitoring! he actually uses a tascam portastudio as a dirty DI/gain stage :)
I honestly just started making horrible covers in like 2018, made a ton of music for myself, and nowadays I produce and mix for others. Hit me up on instagram if you need any help
Would anyone recommend any good third party sound banks people make in the style of artists like mk.gee, james blake, sampha for example? Or a good VST to get? I have Arturia bundle which has a lot of stuff I think works for their sound but I'd love to buy a bank of 100+ sounds (keys, bass, pads etc) specifically in that style so I'm not searching through thousands.
@@FatTonyTheSkipper hey man, I mean I love the analog lab V stuff from Arturia, but you’ve got quite a bit of different artists you want to sound like. For James Blake, maybe serum or analog lab, for mkgee you’ll want some more analog sounding stuff, maybe analog lab would work, you’ll probably want super dead drums (good drum sample kit), I don’t think there’s really a one size fits all type of plug-in for you
@@mtchlrtoo Is "dead drums" by jake reed? just googled it. Yeah I think for me to stay within the Arturia bundle makes sense as so many great sounds there but yeah like thousands of sounds so I'm kinda looking for a third party/fan made/producer made bank to buy that just has all them kind of sounds in them
Loved this video, I've been working on this sound myself, but for the guitar I'm going for the live tone instead. Everything else was super helpful too. There's a cool video where he details his rig for dijon and it sounds like what he uses for his own music. Baritone-esque jaguar is his secret weapon, tuned to A# standard using a capo whenever, as well as a pretty cool reverb. Really interesting stuff th-cam.com/video/azF47JR6R4M/w-d-xo.htmlsi=K2SIPdbQa1S1muFv

Hahah thanks I think so! Just had the idea on whim, could be a wah pedal he uses though. Not super sure!
mkgee is nuts, cool to see how close you got dude!

yep! slowly but surely more info about him is coming out and im totally here for it!
The Hornet Cassette 644 will get you there 😉. Super cheap too!
Great job dude! The baritone tuning he uses is def a big part of it all

Yo! made a little video for that over on instagram (@prod.mtchlr)

Cool stuff, man!
Nice vid. You absolutely gotta listen to Dijon. his music makes me weep
yesss i do
brotherr can you try a Day Wave type of song next?
Hey small correction Mg.kee actually tunes all the way down to Bb :) he capos on a good amount of his songs tho
Yeaaa I believe he uses a baritone and tunes down lower, then adds a capo
Incredible. Just subscribed! Is there any way you would give out / sell the project file please? Would love to use this as my template.
Yo! Can't give out the project file but if you send me a DM on instagram I can work with you and help you make something similar!
sick video! how did you start getting into self producing kinda as a hobby? looking to learn some basics for guitar centered stuff
