I also discovered him in 2021!!! with his track Untitled, till this day its still one of my favourite songs and the song that acc got me DEEP into indie music
Very much relate to listening to music in the pandemic. The twilight bike rides and zoot is familiar to me too 🙃 MK.gee and Dijon were big parts of that along with Eryka badu, the paul institute & FKA TWIGGS.
I wish he was coming up in the Nashville scene and not the LA scene. I fear it’s going to influence the direction, which is obviously a very arrogant thing of me say lol but I feel his style and unique playing would be appreciated in Nashville, almost protected, not to mention to see him influence the Nashville scene would be cool.
bro this video is SO GOOD! you articulated all of the thoughts and feelings ive had about this unique sound and style mkgee has been crafting it felt like a weight got lifted off my shoulder hearing someone else know exactly what is so good about his sound!
I find it really beautiful that so many people have common experiences of AMOC being an album that they enjoyed whilst commuting/being in transit. Idk how to explain it but it really is an album that feels like it’s meant to be enjoyed whilst driving on dark night. Changed my view of music forever
wow… this is the mkgee video essay I was waiting for!! I’ve become a fan after seeing him play on Dijons Absolutely and watching the live tour setup video. when he released candy I was stunned.. a fresh abstract textural sound and a new way to play guitar.. who knew the whole two star album would becoming. I’m so proud to see him really blow up on a new level now!!
The fact fantano rated it a strong 6 is wild to me. This album is so powerful. It’s almost what’s not played that plays the loudest. It’s pure genius. Surprised he doesn’t hear what the fans hear.
I’ve been listening to Mk.Gee since 2020 the first song I heard was Untitled and I fell in love with his talent. I saw him at his San Francisco show and mannn oh man 🔥 Thank you for posting it’s nice to see a community that also supports him
Bro... as a brazilian and recent fan of Mkgee by his new album, all I can say is thank your for this video. You get it absolutely right in this video. I'm loving this journey. Music is blessed now we got Mkgee gettin his recognition.
my guy! very informative and well put together video with a good mix of facts and humour. was happy to see you at the top of this organic search as i'm actually out here tryna understand this artist more, about to go listen and take in the lyrics
saw him last year in june playing next to dijon, who would've ever known this year would be his breakthrough. i'm glad he's finally getting the recognition he deserves
got into him through blonded and eventually A Museum of Contradiction, then was properly hooked with the singles for Two Star which blew me away. also got the chance to take photos for his London show which ended up being a legendary night. he's one of the best performers out there and a lovely guy too
“Over Here” was the first song I listened to by Mk.gee , I believe sometime in 2019 I heard it play. He’s got an interesting sound that’s appealing to my ears.
really great video! i’ve been a fan since 2020 and even learned some new things.. so nice to see mk.gee grow and get the recognition he deserves. met him after the nyc show and he’s so genuine and cool. deserves all this love and more.
I hope in the wake of Two stars success people dive into Museum of contradiction. I was pleasantly surprised by your pandemic anecdote, very relatable that album is very very special to me. I feel like that project changed my ears in a sense.
life long professional music for 3 decades now, and mk.gee is by far my favorite current artist first time I heard mk.gee it was his weird but extremely cool live version of Dream Police, 30 seconds in I was saying to myself “this is something new that’s never been done before l” it was similar feeling as the first time I heard “Even Flow” by Pearl Jam before I had ever heard the word grunge, hearing that after a decade in the 80’s of crap hair metal and overproduced pop, there was instant realization that this was the beginning of something new and the end of what came before you only get that a couple times in a lifetime, if you are lucky to live long enough
What’s crazy is that for the longest time I liked Mk.Gee but felt like his music was just okay, when I heard songs off his candy EP I thought it was a whole different artist and now Dream Police is one of my favourite albums of all time 🫡
Been listening to the new album while cooking today, so far really really good, it reminds me of 22, a million a lot. Also great vid, your topics that you discuss are always really interesting❤
I'm so happy I found two star and the dream police man I really hope he makes more stuff with this sound the nostalgic feeling is everything I've been looking for in music
No lie, I think the world needed Two Star. Maybe it's the importance of it in my own, but I feel that album insanely. Very excited to see where he goes next
Candy definitely was a song in the 80s. It's by Debarge called "All this love" which was later sampled by AZ in the early 2000s with the song Problems. Not trying to snitch, but the lyric is undeniable and doesn't take away from Mk.gee's music.
i've been obsessed with mk.gee since i discovered him late 2021, i'm so glad he's getting the recognition he deserves - he has such a unique sound
🏅
He’s going to. I’m so confident that he will… we’re not there just yet, but he’s about to be. Could be next album.
Congrats for been since day one. No one cares
I also discovered him in 2021!!! with his track Untitled, till this day its still one of my favourite songs and the song that acc got me DEEP into indie music
Saw him live on Saturday. Unbelievable experience, that guitar sounds even more otherworldly in person.
Unbelievable experience
I really hope he ends up writing and touring with Dijon again. They seem like musical soul sisters lol, everything they do together is magic
just dropped a vid on dijon too!
Mike is truly one of those artists that can completely change the way you look at music. He is mind bugguling
that "anytime i allow myself to be creative" is a success is such a bar bro. Def great advice for artists.
Mk.gee and dijon have changed so much about how i go about making music, im glad theyre both getting the recognition they rightfully deserve
Very much relate to listening to music in the pandemic. The twilight bike rides and zoot is familiar to me too 🙃

I only just found him a few months ago through Two Star. It really is a life changing album. Great video!
I find it really beautiful that so many people have common experiences of AMOC being an album that they enjoyed whilst commuting/being in transit. Idk how to explain it but it really is an album that feels like it’s meant to be enjoyed whilst driving on dark night. Changed my view of music forever

I seriously don’t know how he didn’t give this an 8
I didn't know people still watched fantano.
First song I've heard from him was Are You Looking Up and, to me, that song is timeless.
I’ve been listening to Mk.Gee since 2020 the first song I heard was Untitled and I fell in love with his talent. I saw him at his San Francisco show and mannn oh man 🔥 Thank you for posting it’s nice to see a community that also supports him
been a huge fan since 2019. it's so exciting to see people recognize his genius!!

got into him through blonded and eventually A Museum of Contradiction, then was properly hooked with the singles for Two Star which blew me away. also got the chance to take photos for his London show which ended up being a legendary night. he's one of the best performers out there and a lovely guy too
Eric Clapton even came out and endorsed him.
i saw this!!! so cool!!!
Dimeback, Western, and goodbye 🔥🔥🔥
Saw him in Atlanta last month and omg one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. Seeing him again in September!!
“Over Here” was the first song I listened to by Mk.gee , I believe sometime in 2019 I heard it play. He’s got an interesting sound that’s appealing to my ears.

He's had consistently interesting production since his first album in 2018. Totally deserves all the recognition he's getting now.
I hope in the wake of Two stars success people dive into Museum of contradiction. I was pleasantly surprised by your pandemic anecdote, very relatable that album is very very special to me. I feel like that project changed my ears in a sense.
Just discovered Mk.gee about a week ago. I needed this video.
life long professional music for 3 decades now, and mk.gee is by far my favorite current artist

Just found mk.gee this weekend and love the sound
Fantastic video dude! I loved watching the Freebird and Cliffs of Dover videos of young Mike
What’s crazy is that for the longest time I liked Mk.Gee but felt like his music was just okay, when I heard songs off his candy EP I thought it was a whole different artist and now Dream Police is one of my favourite albums of all time 🫡
Andrew Aged is also super important in this! You can hear it, a beautiful thing. I’m glad you mentioned him. INC PAVED THE WAY (part of the way)
inc is soooooo good
Been listening to the new album while cooking today, so far really really good, it reminds me of 22, a million a lot. Also great vid, your topics that you discuss are always really interesting❤

LOVE LOVE LOVE MK.GEEEEEEE
Candy reminds me of Lany's 4EVER! which also has that 80s feel
Saw him live last week and he played a new song. Wow I gotta say I’m waiting eagerly for the official release of it
Discovered him when he released his 2020 mini album. He is different gravy to the rest of the indie music scene right now imo 🙏
Came for Dijon, stayed for Mk.gee
Video title is what I'm saying! I'm going to see him perform soon. I can't wait. Two Star & the Dream Police is amazing.
Thanks for the recc (his production is really nice) and yippee queens nyc rep lol
Just saw him few nights ago in Boston amazing concert. The encore was insane

@samthomas1360 absolutely. I’m a musician so there’s deffo a bit of that there
@samthomas1360 ah thanks bro! This convo went better than I expected 😂
Please do a "your favorite artist's favorite artist" of EDEN, if you haven't heard of him, start at his Vertigo album and work your way through him.
I love EDEN! I need to listen a little bit more but his most recent album with Balling on it was great, and his new singles are great too

Jai Paul walked so mkgee and Dijon could run… almost a decade before either
haha yep thats why i went and did his video after i did theirs
I get it. He made a buzz.
Go ask your favorite artist and theyll say who the fuck he is.
i've been listening his music since 2018 with album Pronounced McGee, curiously I prefer his 'old' stuff rather than his recent releases.
i think its valid to! i still love museum of contradiction haha
Had the pleasure of seeing him in 2019 at Bonnaroo, so glad I went to see him then
I’d watch your Dijon video.
