For us country boys we know what that name means. When the night is so cold you need three dogs in bed with you to stay warm enough. Their songs are legendary. JOY TO THE WORLD (Jeremiah was a bullfrog0), I'VE NEVER BEEN TO SPAIN (Waylon Jennings covered that). AN OLD FASHIONED LOVE SONG, BLACK AND WHITE, and ELI'S COMING are some of their best. You can't go wrong with any of them. They never made a bad song.
Celebrate, Easy to be Hard, One, The Show Must Go on. Adding Mama Told Me not to Come, that's about 10 hits in 6 years, I probably missed 1 or 2 others. that's a good run for a popular band. Most of the time they had good writers outside of the band rather than having the pressure writing their own tunes all of the time. But they knew how to put their own successful spin on those tunes and make them bis...perhaps many of those songs would have never been heard without them.
Interesting on the dog thing, not the local interpretation when it came out. A three dog night was when you couldn't bag a fox . One of my favorite 8 tracks Cheers.

This hit was released in 1970 july. I was a full blown flower child, hanging out with my hippy cats. Smoking weed. Playing guitar. Discussing social inequalities, politics, and trying to find a solution to so many issues in this country and the world!. Thank you guys for this great music. I grew up in the 70’s, these guys are one of my favorite bands 💖
The three gentlemen singing sang lead on different songs and I think that they are the only band to have a #1 hit with 3 different lead singers.

One of the best things about Three Dog Night is that they had 3 lead singers so their sound from song to song could change but was always good. A lot of good songs from them.
Their song Black and White is a favorite of mine. Then there's One, Joy to the World, (also known as Jeremiah was a Bullfrog) But I really love all their songs.

What most kids don’t realize is that their parents are genuinely the ONLY people who want good things for them. There is no agenda other than to see you happy and safe. It’s not always about controlling you-it’s about learning from their mistakes and passing that knowledge on. When you are ingesting mind altering substances/incapacitated at a party ie passed out-you are at risk-you could find yourself at the mercy of strangers and left behind by your friends. Anything could happen-yes it’s exciting and different-but parties can be dangerous.

The band name comes from an Australian term for a cold dessert night when the dingos would lie together to keep warm. There are like 5-7 total band members throughout the years.

That was the seventies. Parties are not the same as they were back then. Drugs were not as prevalent as they are now. Thats why Momma told me not to come. It was a different time. Not like today where anything goes. Oh to go back in time.

The official commentary included in the CD set Celebrate: The Three Dog Night Story, 1965-1975 states that vocalist Danny Hutton's girlfriend, actress June Fairchild (best known as the "Ajax Lady" from the Cheech and Chong movie Up In Smoke) suggested the name after reading a magazine article about Aboriginal Australians, in which it was explained that on cold nights they would customarily sleep in a hole in the ground while embracing a dingo, a native species of wild dog. On colder nights they would sleep with two dogs and, if the night were freezing, it was a "three dog night
