Three Dog Night had 3 lead singers btw. They had many great songs, check out Easy To Be Hard, Celebrate, Black And White, Try A Little Tenderness, Shambala, One, Mama Told Me Not To Come, Out In The Country, so many more! No autotune needed here, their voices were the same live!
The 1975 live concert version of them doing this song is a must watch....it's 🔥🔥🔥 All 3 singers have amazing voices. Love your reactions to the music of my generation 😍
Three Dog Night is an American rock band formed in 1967, founded by vocalists Chuck Negron, Cory Wells, and Danny Hutton. This lineup was soon augmented by Jimmy Greenspoon, Joe Schermie, Michael Allsup, and Floyd Sneed. The band had 21 Billboard Top 40 hits between 1969 and 1975, with three hitting number one. They are firmly planted in Classic Rock History.
Three Dog Night was a soul/r&b/rock outfit with 3 lead singers that _owned_ the airwaves and record charts from about 1969-1975. They were _the sound_ of the early 1970s, plain and simple. Try "Shambala," "Old-Fashioned Love Song," or "Never Been to Spain" for some great vibes!
Any Three Dog Night song is a good intro to their music, as all their songs are amazing! "Mama Told Me Not To Come", "Easy To Be Hard", and Shambala" are three of my favorites, but no matter which song you choose to react to, they're ALL great! Thanks for another great reaction, JM! ✌💙✌
Laura Nyro wrote the song in Jr High music class, supposedly to prove to the teacher that Rock & Roll wasn't junk. It was on her second album "Eli and the thirteenth confession" and there seems to be no mention of who Eli was.
The great late Cory Welles on lead on this fantastic song. Other greats are Chuck Negron and Danny Hutton Many very good songs. Very successful group from 68 maybe till 1975. Actually one of my favorite groups ever!
You've entered a deep rabbit hole now. I love that they had not one, not two, but three lead singers. You should listen to Joy to the World, Black and White and Mama Told Me.
You must see there stuff live( even on your own time) you have to see these guys perform.. trust me. I grew up on them in 60s 70 one of my favorites . This song !!!
Cory Wells on the lead, Chuck Negron with the high voice, Danny Hutton on the Walk Walk part, and when all three come together, it's magic time! They were known as a "cover band" and they did use other people's songs, but almost all were from young up and coming writers whose originals weren't widely known and TDN made them and their songs famous. Deep rabbit hole here, too many hits to list, but faves are One, Black and White, Easy To Be Hard, Mama Told Me Not to Come, Joy To the World, Out In the Country and the list goes on. They were like the Beatles in that every song sounded unique, done in several different styles. Quality stuff, keep a-ridin that train! 👍🏾
This song always made me think of my grandpa when I was a kid because his name was Eli, kindest man ever. Love Three Dog Night, used to have every one of their albums.
Blood Sweat & Tears - David Clayton Thomas was asked by a band member to listen to some songs his girlfriend (Laura Nyro) wrote and Eli's Comin' was one.
I think it's hard for today's listeners to understand what a big deal Three Dog Night was in their heyday. Their posters advertised that they sold more records than Creedence and drew bigger crowds than the Beatles. That's the size arena that they were operating in. For reasons that we 3DN fans don't understand their fame did not endure. They aren't played on the classic rock stations and they aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, despite their many, many top 40 hits, including Old Fashioned Love Song, Shambala, Joy to the World, Liar, One, One Man Band, Mama Told Me Not to Come, Let Me Serenade You, The Show Must Go On, Black and White, Try a Little Tenderness, Never Been to Spain, Family of Man, and others that I can't remember off the top of my head. They were doing something that had become passe and instead of writing their own songs, they played the best songs written by other professional songwriters like Elton John, Randy Newman, Laura Nyro, Leo Sayer and many more. One of the original singers, Danny Hutton, keeps the flames alive and his Three Dog Night is on tour even as I write this.
This song was written by the late great Laura Nyro. Look her up. She wrote many songs that other artists sang. Her body of work on her albums is amazing. No one on the world has a voice like hers. Her range is incredible! One of her albums is called Eli and the Thirteenth Confession. I particularly like this song, Lucky, Upstairs by a Chinese Lamp and so many more.
I really wish it was the 1975 live video. You should check it out too. The intro is unbelievably amazing and shows their true talent. Trust me it's worth a second reaction to it.❤❤❤ Viewers won't be mad to see a second reaction to the live. It's that good!!!!❤❤
Another group I'm glad you finally got around to doing. I suggested them with..."ONE" last year sometime. This is another of their great Classic Rock tunes. I walked 6 (one way) miles to buy their first album. They set the tempo for many bands in that time.
Check out this song done by the songwriter, Laura Nyro. She’s a fantastic songwriter. She hits notes that no one else can. I don’t know which album it’s on but all of her songs are great!
Eli's Coming was written by Laura Nyro for Three Dog Night. Laura was a Song writer and Singer Back in the day, she also wrote songs for The Fifth Dimension, Blood sweat and Tears an many others . All Tree groups were Great ... Check them out ... This was my Era of Music Which had some of the best groups with Fantastic voices and Harmonies.
Another group that the Hammond B3 Organ took the lead often. They were basically a four man band with three front men singers who added things like Tambourines. No other group had that combination.... it worked.
The term "Three Dog Night" comes from how many dogs they slept with in their Alaskan igloos. A 3 dog night was quite cold. After hearing the term they used it for the band name.
My all-time favorite rock band....Three Dog Night performing their classic hit, "Eli's Coming," in 2002.(th-cam.com/video/znaYWPIM72A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1RpMKTrwJUmErfvz) with Tennessee Symphony Orchestra....such a great concert and I thought you might want to see them perform this song in 2004. Some changes have happen. Lead singer Chuck Negron is not the third lead singer in the band anymore. He has gone solo. Floyd Snead the drummer is not in the band....new bass player/lead singer in the band showcases his vocal with this song.....however, Corey Wells and Danny Hutton, lead singers are still in the band.....they all performed the song so soulfully good. It is FIRE!!! FIRE!!! The Old boys never miss a beat......and their vocals were stronger than EVER!!! Check it out!!!! It is a Live performance!!! Reply
If you liked this, you gotta hear their song, Liar. On a different note, lend an ear to Right, on David Bowie's album Young Americans. It's got it all!
The singers are Corey, chuck and danny. There is a cool live version of this that has an elongated vocal , and atmospheric music before the song starts getting going...they were big in the 70s lots of hits......
Three Dog Night were one maybe the most popular group, in terms of record sales, from 1969 into the early 80s. So many hit songs on "The Billboard Top 100" chart, it was amazing. Unbelievably great harmonies. Thay have a very large music catalogue to go into if you are so inclined.
They had a lot of great songs. My favorites are “Joy to the World” (not the Christmas carol) and “Never Been to Spain”, but you really can’t go wrong with any of their songs.
It seemed like every festival I went to back then 3 Dog Night were playing. Incredible harmonies, but wish that had have brought Chuck back after he got clean. He was my favorite, especially on One.
Eli's Comin' was written by the great singer-song writer Laura Nyro. Three Dog Night recorded a number of her songs. I believe the back-up band had previously worked for Janis Joplin and were known as Full Tilt Boogie. I especially like their rendition of Paul Williams' song (another great prolific songwriter of the 1970s) Out In The Country. Great documentary about Paul Williams, his songwriting and his life, out on streaming video.
I heard that their group’s name came from this. When knights of England would sleep in a castle they needed warmth from the cold. Sometimes they would cuddle up with one dog. On a colder night they would need two dogs. Then, of course, on a frigid night they would need three dogs to stay warm. Hence the name, Three Dog Night. A play on the word knight.
Hearing how having 3 lead singers worked together for Three Dog Night , I wonder if this had a bit of influence on Lynyrd Skynyrd having 3 lead guitar players in a band . Those configurations gave both those bands distinct advantages of having their own distinct sound comparable to other bands of their era .😎
The name "Three Dog Night" was actually taken from an Eskimo legend, of how many sled dogs you let lay on top of you, depending on how cold it was that night. One, Dog may have been good enough on a cold night, but in extreme cold temps of say 30 to 50 Degrees below zero, you would probably need the warmth of three Dogs to curl up with that night if you were going to survive that cold of temperature.
"Try A Little Tenderness" for some blue-eyed-soul. Cory Wells was an incredible singer
"ONE"..... is the loneliest number that you'll ever do.. Many here can hear that song in their minds now.
Most of us here had that 45
I walked 6 miles one way to buy the album. Try A Little Tenderness blew me away.@@yourebusted5786

The name “Three Dog Night” is a reference to how cold it is … how many dogs it will take to keep you warm.

I prefer her version 😊
Jr. High-school? 😮
I'm sure you know this but she wrote multiple hits for many groups/stars, my favorite being Stoney End for Streisand.
The great late Cory Welles on lead on this fantastic song. Other greats are Chuck Negron and Danny Hutton Many very good songs. Very successful group from 68 maybe till 1975. Actually one of my favorite groups ever!
21 Top 40 hits from '69-'74. One of the biggest selling acts - post Beatles.
The best singers ever! That band slayed. Check out more of their music.
You've entered a deep rabbit hole now. I love that they had not one, not two, but three lead singers. You should listen to Joy to the World, Black and White and Mama Told Me.

Lots of great songs from these guys .... great harmonies
Great song. "Out in the Country" is another that well stands the test of time.
Eli is a player. This is a female telling a female friend that Eli is coming back to town and she should avoid heartbreak by avoiding him.
Use their 1975 TV live special.....best they ever were! Easy to get online. Watch these guys sing. Half the fun!
you really need to watch them in a live situation to understand how incredible they were
be careful, they will become a favorite
This is a great live performance which is a must see. They also had many great songs including "Black and White."
This was when music told a story, and created such fabulous lyrics from these guys.😊
I think this was the 1st Three Dog Night song I heard as a kid, and it made me an instant fan. Great band, great music.

This is a straight up beautiful vocal performance.
Chuck Negron sings the high notes.

I saw Three Dog Night in Vancouver in 1970. They had a lot of hits at the time. Mama Told Me Not to Come and Easy to Be Hard were my favourites.
Still looooove Three Dog Night!!

The live version of this is even better !!!
You need to see the live 1975 version of this song. It highlights all 3 of the lead singers. Bill.
They had a lot of great songs. My favorites are “Joy to the World” (not the Christmas carol) and “Never Been to Spain”, but you really can’t go wrong with any of their songs.
Another great song from…Three Dog Night!👍🥰
Please watch them perform live sometime too. This band was spectacular. So much talent.
The live version is killer!!
If you can watch the live performance of them you’ll enjoy it . Pick a song and keep your eye on them .
That's who Eli is you got it! 😊
I saw these guys in the early 70s and they were great onstage.
It seemed like every festival I went to back then 3 Dog Night were playing. Incredible harmonies, but wish that had have brought Chuck back after he got clean. He was my favorite, especially on One.
Lots of good one with Three Dog Night. In spring 1971 I was in eighth grade and they were my first ever concert.
Back then, when we heard that intro we knew it was time to crank it up..
Eli's Comin' was written by the great singer-song writer Laura Nyro. Three Dog Night recorded a number of her songs. Find a live version of any of their songs and they sound just as good!
Lots of great songs by these guys

JM... This band... "Easy To Be Hard" is one of those you want to hear.
Great choice! ❤
The absolute biggest band of that time period' If you don't believe it, Look it up. They were amazing.

It's worth seeing the video Soundstage 1975.
These guys - "Try A Little Tenderness"
Live version is awesome ❤
You must WATCH Cory Wells sing "Try A Little Tenderness out of that TV special!!!
Put on a copy of their greatest hits in your backyard...pour yourself three fingers of whiskey...get in your hammock and leave your cares behind.😎
My favorite of theirs! ❤
3DN ARE GREAT. I listened to them every day in Vietnam 1969-70. They helped a lot of us get through it & back to the WORLD.

Great things come in 3's. E.L.O....E.L.P.... R.E.O.... G.F.R..and Dogs singing lead with this band.

🔥🔥🔥
As much fun to watch as to hear.
I always felt when I was a little one that Eli was a euphemism for Jesus. Now that I'm in my older years, I have no idea who Eli was. 😄
Good Reaction Young Man. A Gave a 👍 for this just because I Respect your Reaction Method . But I'm not crazy about this Particular song! 🎶
look around and find the song's writer Laura Nyro. check her catalog too
I love love LOVE “Three Dog Night”! My favorite besides “Eli’s Coming” would be “ONE”. If you haven’t heard it, check it out! ✌🏼🫶🏽💫💯
You should try Jam. Now that song really gets your blood pumping!
Back in the days of "Bell Bottom Jeans".... and good... well, you know.
It's Danny Hutton on lead vocals.
I felt like this was the absolute coolest song that they did and the rest is good but it's not as good as this
Listen to Laura Nyro's version:
It is haunting.
Three Dog Night's version is in a class of it's own
" Joy to the World " non Xmas song.
" Never been to Spain " Shambala "
" Black and White "
