Henrik 100% doesn’t play his own game. Sure he will log on and talk to randos but that’s it. It took him over 2.5 years to realize we need guild tabards because in big fights it’s so hard to tell who’s who.
Yeah he cemented this in my mind when he was surprised to see floating "space outlaws". Like anyone playing for more than an hour has seen multiple floating npcs lol
Aye clearly he definitely does not play unless it's an event he's not a normal player by any means or he would be more familiar with the struggles of an average player
Yes, the first thing you get bombarded to when entering mainland are players helping you not for the most genuine reasons (usually to join a guild). I was naive at the time and thought we were having genuine good times but no, its because I'm short, skeletal, sheevra mage, that can help be a heal slave for raids. Such is life....
@@GrimDim then stop being a slave. make a proper stout sheevra mage build and go on offensive. I sometimes look at those pvp videos of melee killing mages left and right and cringe. You look like helpless kids with empty hands. Staying in place waiting to be killed. Or turning your back, running at a melee distance and getting two shotted. Level freaking defstance and blocking. Take your dagger out and parry like a decent player should. Mages bring a lot of firepower into the fight. A proper flame strike on some skilled thursar here and there can help turn tide of a battle. We won fight 12 vs 24+ koto by utilizing earthquake and ele spells. Got bunch of loot and got out before battle fatigue killed us.
There’s also one more factor - how easily a player can train pvp skills without painful restarting when a player initially fails. For example, if this game would have some kind of mode of quick matches/battlegrounds where death means quick respawn and trying again - that would immensely fast track new players and the skill gap would be much narrower than it is now. I’m not sure whether introducing scenario based matches is the answer for MO2 but having a way for even a guildless player to try different fight strategies without initial fear of losing would be a game changer.
This would be fucking massive it's how I managed to get gewd in wow you smash your face against the wall over and over until you get good. The problem in mortal is the time between you need to rekit over and over and duels while faster aren't good cause your fighting your friends who probably are nowhere near as good and if you go to the naked fab duels if you face someone better than you the fight is over so quick you learned jack shit
Saying you can be on the battlefield and competitive might be true for a footie, it would be an uphill battle for a fresh player going against a person with well rolled trinkets, but doable, sure. For mages though, actual pure mages, no.
The amethyst change made cheap trinkets more competitive, and pure mages have a lot of tools now, either through armoring up with a pet or kiting on a dex build (will still get chopped to pieces by veelas)
This is 100% a skill based game (which is one of the things I love about it), and honestly more people need to focus on increasing their skills and spend less time grinding gold for equipment, trinkets, etc. I think so many people have come from other games, or played them in the past, so their go to is that they need better equipment to be effective. I thought that for a long time in MO1, and after joining a good guild and having some people show me the ropes, I realized just how much every aspect of this game comes down to your personal skills vs equipment.
from what I've seen, people complaining about "the grind" are not willing to figure out how to play the game, the grind itself is laughable to anyone that knows what they're doing.... The contrast is, people used to stick in Haven to level 15 because they found it most efficient... people are just bad at exploring and find the first thing that works well enough and just abuses it instead
Spez tell Henrik I said he's killing the game. haha. Tell him to stop. Thanks. If you keep adding percentage buffs, balance will never be achieved. Only someone w/ no understanding of math thinks percentage points, especially what seems like it will be 5% at the end, don't matter. Get the fuck out. Trinkets are worse, though, so I guess it doesn't matter, but the fact that you can get 20% dmg then now even more... that's not build diversity. If you wanna add in build diversity, work on the clade tree / add subclass clade trees. This is more bullshit for people to buff their characters so they can use mounts, pets, and magic at the same time. It's sad that this game once aspired to be a competitive game. Sure, zergs are an issue, but in the end attrition will win out. It's just getting more and more out of hand. Pretty depressing, but I guess that's what he wants.
Bigger armies often win battles. If you want even fights, play arena games. Mortal requires considering the force sizes, intrigue, factions, and diplomacy.
1%? it's 1% multiple times lol. That's not 1% anymore. XD Henrik is correct, having outstanding skill is possible... however.... there's a cap on skill whether anyone wants to hear it or not. A veteran, with trinkets, and mastery against a noob without any of that, and maybe an incomplete build? Outstandingly unlikely to win. So here's the issue with it. Yes it's a skill-based game, but stats off-set that slightly. Increasing the threshold DEFINITELY will make that worse. However, in support of this system; it's totally needed. Base skills don't take long enough to level, mostly. Base skills that are hard to find, might have a sort of long-term reward feel to them... but generally the vast majority of skills/lores are 1) useless, 2) easy to level. What I'm getting at with this; Darkfall had a sort of "infinite, uncapped leveling" system... but... it was very slow, it was a commitment to build an OP character, you really had to earn it. Like, I'm not mad. I'm about to become way more OP... but like I can already tell a dramatic difference between me and other players that has nothing to do with skill. IE, skills raise dmg, rings raise dmg. If I don't have to successfully hit you as many times as you do me, and we're in the same gear, I can't say much about skill. Honestly, I think they should just make trinkets drop on death at this point, or drop on death when not charged or something at least.
ok i was one of the ones worried about the gap between the no lives and casuals because of this, but if its not impossible to unlock then the vet system actually looks cool.
8:30 It takes about 2.5 hours to hit max level in Black Desert and then you are on equal gear level in Arena PvP. Like most Mortal players you seem to not realize that basically all PvP MMOs are skill-based with gear having a varying effect (just like in Mortal). The prize pool for pro WoW Arena is like $10,000 per tourney win - so if it's so fking easy why aren't you claiming that cash? Or maybe you're just talking straight out of your ass.
The core combat system is skill-based, of course. Its bad ( cant dodge shit coz hitboxes are dumb, 360degree blocking, missing animations) but its core design is skillbased. I think the discourse about it being skill vs gear based is about the strength differences that endgame gear provides.(trinks+ogh + thursar = pretty much 100% slash res for example) So when Henrik talks about "the Gap" hes being ignorant or doesnt know what hes talking about. Theres in fact hardly ANY MMO that has gear which provides such massive defensive boosts. In most MMOs PvP a lvl 50 is much more likely to defeat a lvl 60 than it is for a guy with a steel sword to defeat someone in oghmium in MO2. The open world design also works against individual player skill since you WILL encounter situations where no amount of skill can save you and others have the opportunity to basically cheese you. The map is filled with chokepoints and SV in their glaring incompetence added player built guard towers, alarm systems and bases the zergs can hide in every 200m. Between those bases is mostly empty land with very little cover, which is just not what a full-loot PvP games' map is supposed to look like.
if you want it to be friendlier to new players, you cant have a system that incentivizes out right murder and calls it PvP. You need a system where guild wars are allowed over resources, but that also punishes murderers like in real life. The problem with mortal is that murderers get a free pass.
I have extremely strong agreements with at least a portion of this. The punishment for crime in this game is a fucking joke. I can't tell you how many times I've been almost at town, gotten killed by some shithead ganker, then by the time I respawned their crime timer is off and they're standing there at the bank banking my shit before I even respawn. I mean the fact that murderers are red. can be attacked by players, but the guards just let them wander into town without consequences is absurd on it's own, but then you have these ridiculous invisible single flagging assist mechanics. I mean dude's have been sitting in front of Tindrem with low HP, waiting for a noob to heal them for literally 2 years, so they can abuse this mechanic and kill them in front of guards/in town unexpectedly. Idk how tf they expect to get new players into this shit with wonky shit like that becoming a fucking tradition lol.
They don't want to make casual friendly shit show from mo2. They want ppa get the game, taste it and progress or leave. Game already casual friendly as hell U go in to the game, half of map in towers, u cam get in guild for newbs very easy, just write to any zerg guild. That so easy. But no one change the core mech. Guild own resurses. My guild own the necro dungeon. And had monopoly on necro staff.
@simonsn4996 there's no one left to rmt to cause they killed the pop. And yes local gray is a dumb ass mechanic, it you heal a murderer you should become crim like in UO
But it makes you a dex mage with 200+hp, 10% magic damage, 50 stat light armor, 10% all defences, a ritual pet with insane defense and attack, and a 4x10m wide shield made out of diamonds.
When a Siege is declared - it would be better to have a "Roster" of 50 max sign ups for Attack and another 50 for Defense.
