I thought it was way better that way. Even in the 33 og he stood upright half of the time. Look at Peter Jackson's 05 version..just a big knuckle scrapping ape, nothing else. Not scary at all. This 76 version Kong was like his own species. Not just a big ape. He was like a yeti or something different. Much more monstrous / scarier.imo.
Damn I miss those towers. I really don't like the new design that they got going up, I think that building looks too ugly and I think they could just redesign the twin towers to be more modernistic and all, but I feel that by not rebuilding, we are actually showing that we are complacent in fear. Rebuilding the towers would show that we are strong and resiliant and that we can get back up when we're knocked down.
@flowflurry they picked Wtc instead of the empire state building becuase in 1976 it was the tallest building in the world much as the empire state building was in the 1930's.
Clearly the giant sound effects were being used to help illustrate Kong's mass...which is fine and handy. However, why would any director insist on using that same effect when he's climbing Tower 2 of the World Trade Center? Especially when the majority of his bodyweight is leaning AWAY FROM THE BUILDING!! PHYSICS!!!

King Kong and George Willig climbed up the same exact corner of the South Tower, which is also the same corner that you see fail when the building collapsed on 9/11.
I would start by saying that apes are one of the strongest animals on the planet. This ape like creature happens to be 50ft. You can clearly see he's putting his hands / feet in between the slots gripping them. Kong, like apes, have the same functionality and strength with their feet than with their hands. What do you believe..he needed steps for the climb? LOL I can see if there was simply just two flat walls that came together creating a corner, than i can agree with the "how" is this happening questioning.

I wish Old Boy woulda been up there on 9/11! He mighta stopped some carnage instead of becoming it.
At six years old, I never noticed how wrong it looked to have Kong standing up straight.

Jeff Bridges as "The Dude".

In 1976 the tallest building was the Sears Tower in Chicago.
You see ESB in the background in some shots here. Wondering if that was a nod to the original King Kong movie.
If you look towards the Empire State Building from almost anywhere in Manhattan you will probably see it, and definitely from that height.
cool! but i still think him climbing the empire state building is better.
this is probably the craziest footage that i've seen of the September 11th attacks

He is hitting the building with his feet each time, which is why you hear it.

How the hell is the climbing a flat sided tower?! Nothing for him to latch on to.
George Willig did it in 77
King Kong and George Willig climbed up the same exact corner of the South Tower, which is also the same corner that you see fail when the building collapsed on 9/11.
He is grabbing the columns with his hands and to a lesser extent with his feet, which also get held to the building by the weight of him.

I can't believe I actually liked this piece of crap when it came out. Luckily my excuse is that I was 15.
I liked it. It was my first kong movie though
Well it's better than all succeding Kong movies. The music alone beats about all contemporary Hollywood scores.
