I’ve been a guitar player for over 30 years, inspired by many of the guitarists mentioned in this video. The description and narration on this video is so spot on, everything you described about these artists resonates in me. Great vid.
GnR went mainstream around 1987. I was 19 and thought they were the best thing since VH. You could instantly recognize Slash’s influences, he sounded nothing like his LA hair band contemporaries that were so popular at the time. IMO, Slash is the last in line of the "greats”. Randy Rhodes needs an honorable mention here as well.
I'm exactly 10 years younger and around that time at 9 or 10 years old I remember hearing GnR for the first time and it shaped my musical taste ever since. My Dad was a drummer and I'd already been raised on a diet of The Who, Led Zeppelin, Genesis and Fleetwood Mac among others but when I heard Slashes opening riff of Welcome to the Jungle, the door to my own personal musical taste was booted open. I agree that it's hard to think of any guitarist since who carried that legacy.
'Appetite' came out in LATE 1987. That was their first record (outside of 'Live Like a Suicide'). What the hell are you talking about? "Went mainstream"?
@ Welcome to the jungle video got released in 87’. That’s when the band started to gain recognition nationally and internationally. I don’t know how else to describe mainstream to you but if you don’t understand, look it up killer.
How could you add two other players when it's a list of his six favourites? You'd have to take two others out to add those two, otherwise it's a list of eight 😅 I'm sure they're a load more guitarists Slash loves and respects but when you can only pick six, plenty of greats won't make the cut, doesn't mean they're not great but you can't put everyone in a list of six
It's doubtful that I'll ever be a real Guns n Roses fan. All the same, it isn't difficult for me to acknowledge what a good player Slash is. Anytime I hear him playing on a track, I can hear how all these other players have made their mark on him. It's also easy to respect the effort he has made to keep what they brought to music alive. That is something I've also been attempting to do as a musician, no matter what the scale.
Those players he lists are true innovators that created something that pushed culture into new places....(they're not all my faves either) though many of the know it alls in the comments just cast aspersions because they're think they know better.....
Good to see he chose Jeff Beck. He is seriously overlooked among the best guitarists. It's always Clapton,Hendrix, EVH, etc. No i'm not rubbishing those guitarists they're great but there's a whole lot of great axemen that don't get the gong.
Schenker is definitely an influence, you can hear his influence even on some Gnr riffs. The song Rock Bottom, UFO I think has influenced Slash in some way. It’s pure 70’s melodic rock, which is basically what Slash is all about.
Once Eddie Kramer named Hendrix, Beck and Original Spaceman *Ace Frehley* as the three he was Proud to have worked with "They are definitively the Best ever pick up a Guitar" and that's Alright up on today!
Most GnR tunes were either created or structured by Izzy. The main reason GnR didn't continue to be big after the split was because Izzy was gone. Slash is a amazing guitarist. He's also a cool dude. However, GnR was mostly Izzy & Axle. But Duff can play the hell out of a guitar too. But in GnR and since then he's known for his bass playing. But he's actually a great guitar player too. My sister had Axle in her choir class at Jeff High School. She said he picked on a lot because he was so skinny.
@@BaxterThewall Jimmy Page should have been in the top 5 along withJoe Perry . I did watch it. Slash also counts Ted Nugent in his all time greats list
David Gilmour - Terry Kath - Rory Gallagher - Peter Frampton - Jan Akkerman - Richie Blackmore

" The heavy with the mystical" ! ... Jimmy Page
SLASH BORN In STOKE ON TRENT UK
Great British guitarist
He's about as British as Ireland is
@@joeduffy3309 No. He's said before that he considers himself as much English/British as American. Try to keep up.
I for one, cannot disagree with this list. But for myself, I would add Ted Nugent & Joe Perry.

Was this Slash's picks or the video makers favourites? always Hendrix & Clapton in the mix.
Hendrix is THE most overrated guitarist of all time.

Everybody who appreciates guitar music Love one of one, Jeff Beck who can never be replaced.

Two others to add to the list: Eric Johnson and Steve Howe
Paraphrasing - a fan of his said to him that he and Angus Young were his favorite guitar players. Slash answered, at least I am in good company.
He put in 7 guitarists, not 6.
Beck
Gallagher
Hendrix
Clapton
Richards
Van Halen
Page
"One (1) louder" ?
I would say mick Taylor over Richards
@@andyxjo1 Definitely
Richard's? He'll no....
His mother also made costumes for Frank Zappa.
A great guitar player right there
Can’t argue with any of them
"Moving from blues to rock... Keith Richards and Mick Taylor" ?? Well, if those two aren't exponents of the blues, WTF is?!
They loved the blues but played rock. It happens.
What a great channel. Commentary eloquently delivered.
Thank you kindly!
Gary moore???
Slash knows metal DEEP.
Strange he doesn’t reference Michael Schenker.
@@jmcb8440 Not an influence

Slash has praised Schenker more than once.
I can agree this List also for me, too .
Learn how to mix sound. I can't understand what Slash is saying because you have the background music too loud.
Can't go wrong with that list of guitar heroes. All of them are absolute mind-blowing.
Best choice: Rory Gallagher!
Van Halen didn't invent tapping. Hacket did.
Yea was an italian man in 1965, there's a video of that. But Van Halen brought it to the best
You forgot Joe Walsh (The Eagles), Joe Perry (Aerosmith), Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) et al.
I know Aerosmith was a huge influence.
CaptainSpeedfingers, Alvin Lee !!!
Other than Perry, Slash has hardly mentioned them, if at all.
This is AI created content, right?
Not a bad list.
Yeah, not bad but could be better. David Gilmore, Prince, Tom Petty, too many that never get mentioned.
Frank Marino
Mahogany rush
Nobody forgot anything. These are the 6 Slash likes.
i like to ad, alvin lee/randy hansen/gibbons
Alvin was a gift from god. RIP. CHEERS.🍉
How can you more people to a list of 6? This isn't a list of all the guitarists Slash likes but just 6 of them
@@davidmellish3295 o.k take 3 off and i put my 3 choice in makes 6
Stopped watching after he said Slash was born in London …….he’s a Potter !
If they got that wrong ….the rest of it is probably wrong .
Knut Schreiner, top player
Where the hell is Joe Perry?
You forgot Howard the Duck...
Slash should join Lizzo…. GUNTS AND ROSES
As for me he could have just stopped with Rory Gallagher........
