ENJOY!!!
This is genius, I was literally about to spend $300 on a new set of latches but this video came up when I searched online to buy some. Thanks for the savings! Looking forward to trying this tomorrow
Ahh good luck. Hopefully it works well for you
Man where do you even find these new? I can only fine "good" used ones
Thank you. The spring was a challenge as I did not see how it came off. For those like me the small end goes in the little hole. This video is so helpful
ahh i should of mentioned that in the video, thank you 😊
Thanks. I’m a new NB owner of about 3 weeks and 1000km. Cheers for the tip.
welcome to the club, i hope this tips works for you
Just got my first NA a few months ago and was noticing a lot of wind noise coming through the roof. Was about to order new latches. Then you taught me how to tighten the latches. Thanks for saving me $200+!
😊im glad it helped and saved you money
I thought the previous owner had loctited the bolts in and was cursing them the whole time lol, top tip pour some 99% isoproply on them, keep them wet for 10 mins and remove them by tightening and loosening them back and forth to work the alcohol in, they should eventually loosen up enough to not destroy the bolts, which i also did on the first one.
what a great tip, thank you
Thanks for this video. The 2001 SE I bought last February had this problem. I was able to get both side working again in under an hour. Saved me a lot of money.
ahhh thts awesome news 😎
For all you guys out there pissed because the guy didn’t show how to re-insert the spring here is a fixed for that oversight by this bloke from across the lake… sorry no video but pretty straightforward. Take a zip tie with the spring and place with the shorter end of the spring through the little hole. Take a zip tie and tighten it around the spring and the metal tea in the button tighten it down in place so the spring lines up with the holes for the pin, put the button on top of the latch in the proper direction put the pin through replace the clip and then cut off the zip tie and then your latch is back together very quickly. Unfortunately, unfortunately, the filing method that this guy also uses is flawed it does not work. I filed mine down at least two mil, and it still doesn’t catch. I would probably buy a new latch from flying Miata. Hope this helps cheers.
thanks for the tips, if filing it down didnt work then maybe your latch was too far gone in the first place which unfortunately would need a new latch anyways
I have been needing to sort my latches for a while and was considering 3D printing replacement buttons but with this I don't need to. Thanks :)
Well I hope this helps ☺️
Thanks for the video,I done my latch. Actually 1mm wasn’t enough for me. I have to grind more around 3mm. But eventually helped! Thank bro
3mm 😯wow that must of been loose
Great video, just bought a MK 2 and the soft top hadn't been used for years, both sides have this problem, I will do your fix very soon. 👍
if the soft top hasnt been used for a while it tends to shrink so you may find you have to adjust it a few times over the next few months
@Project380 I kept putting it up and down, and it's fine now, but I am still going to do your excellent fix, so the release buttons work. 👌
quick and very well explained, you my good sir have earned a follow ! cheers and thank you !

This is a hella simple fix 💪
and saves a load of money 😎
Thanks....👍🏻
You're welcome!
Thank you, P380! : ) Do you (or anyone here : ) know where I can get new replacement springs for these latches? Hardware stores seem to only carry springs with closed loops on the ends (which will not work here). Thanks, again! : )
have you tried MX5 parts or moss europe?
Thanks! Yes; no results.@@Project380

Tank You!!!

😎
Thus isn't working for me is it possible I need to file it alot more. Latch is still the same.
either you need to file more or the latch is toast, check the pin hasnt worn away
Good maaan
😎
I don't get why putting the spring back in wasn't in the tutorial, that's literally the hardest part of this whole fix. I had to spend half an hour figuring out what's the correct way to put it in and then another hour before it finally fucking got in...
Ahh sorry about this. Maybe I'll revisit this video or make a short explaining more in depth on the spring
