- A viewer asked me a few weeks ago if I had a video on using the Car Scanner app with an OBD II dongle, so here it is. There a lot of people more knowledgeable about it than me, but this is how I use it. Hopefully this can help someone. I upgraded my app to the Pro version so it wouldn't have ad banners on it, but the features I talk about are on the free version of the app as well.
Here’s the link to the dongle on Amazon

Thanks so much for taking the time to prepare and upload this video. Much appreciated,
You’re welcome!
OK...thanks for your thoughts on OBD BLE security issues. I decided to go with a vLinker MC+ but that was because not owning a Bolt yet (pick it up in 6 days!) I didn't realize that accessing the OBD port was that easy. Am I correct that it is easy as I see in the video? So...I just wanted to see how well your VEEPEAK is working for you. Do you find any glitches in data when you uplug it in the middle of a charge and/or trip when you take a break? TIA!
It’s very easy to access
@SpinnerDaj Can you also check the Health of the EV battery?
It can check the battery capacity and you can compare that figure to what it’s supposed to have
Will it measure the degradation level of the ev battery?
Yes, it has SOH data for the traction battery expressed as %
Hi, i have an ev with the electric traction fault. Dash powers on from 12V standard battery and shows the fauts warnings. Will this tool work and read/reset the error codes?
It should read them

@@SpinnerEV - thanks!
Do you leave the dongle plugged in 24/7?
I have same dongle n app
I do not. I only plug in it when I want to check something.
I like the color of your car, is it ok to ask what color code it is? Recently got my fiat painted and was not happy with the result. So setting aside colors I like for whenever my next car is.
This is Chevrolet’s Ice Blue Metallic
@@SpinnerEV oh awesome! thanks!
Thanks a lot for the video, it looks very straight forward when you select your different options for the dashboard, but when I do the same thing with the app I don’t get any EV options just ICE ones. Could it be that I have the wrong dongle?
Does it give you an option to identify your car?
Which app do you have, I’m using OBDFusion which appears it geared towards internal combustion engines?
I use car scanner
@@SpinnerEV do you have an android or iPhone and can you send me a pick of the app. I have the same OBD but the fusion app doesn’t have features for ev’s.
I have an iPhone. Here’s the App Store link

Can you give the android app link, because I cannot find Car Scanner Pro, only Car Scanner ELM OBD2?
Thank you
We have to take the Ampera EV for the the Chevy Bolt?
excellent video. can you save the data in cvs or xls file?
I haven’t tried
Excellent thanks
nice video.can i keep the dongle always plugged in?
You could
@@SpinnerEV You can keep it plugged but it will draw current and run your battery down . In addition it will leave your car open to be stolen by a thief use a scanning device so it is not recommended.
Can you run Car Scanner and ABRP at the same time?
I haven’t tried. I’ll need to look into it
Car scanner is not showing the KWh data for f15pLighting 😢
I’d recommend trying a different app in that case. There are others available
Is it works which Rivian ?????
I can only guess, but maybe
Can I add the app to Android Auto?
Maybe not this specific app, but there are several available that you can
69% nice
WHAT IS MY GARAGE?
It’s where you identify your vehicles
