I had a very memorable weekend in Wakefield back in the mid 90's. We travelled up from Kent to visit a pal from Leeds. He was a bit of a naughty geezer, but not in a sinister or nasty way. More of a gentlemanly wide boy crook, if ya know what I mean Yammy? He was very well known in that area of the north. We ended up partying all night with the owner of a well known Wakey night club called the rooftop gardens. You always hear about that particular club when you hear many different stories about the infamous Paul Sykes. Apparently he quite often got himself in a bit of bother inside and/or outside the rooftop gardens. I think nigh on every incident he got involved in was between him and the bouncers. Fantastic club Yammy. Pills, packet, and water was our main diet on the Wakefield mission. The rooftop gardens was a big club. Huge dancefloor on the ground floor, and another two areas on the 1st floor. One area was a VIP lounge, and the other area was a private lounge used by the geezer who owned the club. He was a good friend of my pal, so we spent the night as guests in his private lounge. It had a balcony that looked down onto the main floor below. We were untouchable in that club that night Yammy. The owner was off his nut like everyone else was in the private lounge. Wherever the owner went, he was always discreetly shadowed by two massive geezers. Them two fellas looked proper nasty, but I think I can say that they were most likely the friendliest and funniest doormen I've met in my life to this day. We couldn't do anything wrong up on that balcony bruv. The double doors that gave access to his private balcony were guarded by another two monster looking geezers. No one came through those doors onto that balcony unless the owner invited them. I can accurately transport you to the era when we parted at the rooftop. It was almost certainly 1996. A lot of your subs will be familiar with the tunes they played in the club that night cos 96 was the year of the infamous Rettenden murders. Great atmosphere and tunes back in the 90's. We ended up going back to the owners huge gaff in his white limo. Lovely place. Indoor pool etc. I didn't think I'd ever see so many freely available drugs as I did on the private balcony at the rooftop. Various different type E's to choose from, endless supply of packet, and people skinning up with the old school squidgy black, and/or a high quality Rocky (Morrocan). But once everyone arrived at his mansion like gaff, people were pulling out even larger quantities of kit than on the balcony. For the life of me I can't remember the name of the fella that owned the rooftop gardens, but he was a natural born hard core merchant and he was a right scream. Whenever I think of him he always reminds me a bit of 'eye ball Paul' the DJ in the Kevin and Perry movie. I can't think of the actors name...🤔? Welsh geezer, tall, slim, and quite often had longish blondish hair. Anyway, the owner disappeared for a few minutes, then he made a grand entrance on his return. He'd changed out of his 'work clothes' and put on one of his hard core party animal outfits. He'd transformed himself into a cross between a hippy and Ziggy Stardust..😳😮😆! Bare feet, hippy beads and bangles, a wide brimmed hat, bare chested with a huge fluffy waistcoat made from a genuine sheep/lamb fleece! Then he grabbed a microphone and skip up and down the length of his indoor pool singing Don Henley classics over the backing tracks. To be fair, he was a good singer. I still think of the rooftop gardens owner to this day. It was 27 yrs ago when we had the pleasure of meeting him. I can still picture fairly accurately what he looked like, but I know I'm never gonna remember his name or where he lived. I've tried to do a bit of research in the past to try and locate him. That's if he's still alive cos I'd say he must have been approx 15 yrs ahead of us. He was one of those people you meet in life that makes such a huge impression on you that you couldn't forget them even I you tried😂! He was definitely a one off. But there must have been another sensible and clean living side to him cos this geezer was absolutely minted and it didn't look like he had a team around him to help run that massive club. He was deffo the big boss man, but I don't think it registered with him that he was obviously a bit different. Filthy stinking rich. I mean disgustingly wealthy. But instead of suffering with delusions of grandeur, he shared his wealth with people he liked having around. We didn't spend a penny that night in the rooftop. Free pills and powder etc, free cigarettes from a big box behind the bar that was full packs of 20 bensons gold, John player blue, tom thumb cigars, etc. Free beer, spirits. Free bottles of champagne. I cant remember when Paul Sykes passed away, but if he was still around in 1996, it would've made my night if he marched through those double doors to the balcony unchallenged by the incredible hulk and Ben from the fantastic 4 who were standing guard. I'd have got a pill down his neck, racked him up a big fat hairy one, then ask him if he wouldn't mind telling me the story of when he swam across the straits of johor with his famous plimsolls hanging round his neck..... "........aye, it were sharks ye know. Not shark infested like. It were just tha locals would nay go paddling like" 🤣🤣🥊

Got away with £100,000 & had a mate waiting around corner with a dodgy car, buried the miney near Humber Bridge & the driver grassed em up to old bill ffs! Sid & his co accused got 18 years each & the grass 2 years! He had a brother called Alex sivwright who used to rob bookies, who also did Cat A's! The guy who grassed, his son was a world title boxing fighter called Luke Campbell from my city, now retired!
