I can't believe this isn't discussed within the EDC community, but I've found that I now REQUIRE my flashlight [MicroStream] to be foremost on my belt, and that it's sheath must have a hollow bottom. This allows me to activate the light just by pressing the button, which then illuminates the floor beneath me, and is enough to brighten a dark room. One button press to hands-free.
I've done this for sure.
I occasionally do the same at work. Lights up the porta potty, or let's people in large vehicles coming into my space know where I am.
Why not turn on the light?
Never thought of this. Pretty good idea when hiking after dark or working in a location with the power turned off.
@@Srvelis82 exactly, right?! Because we're always in a room with a light switch close by in a home/building where the power is on, no one ever needs a flashlight to begin with, right?
So nice to hear someone talk about sheaths the way a lot of us think about them. There's so much more to consider beyond "yep it goes on a belt". Thank you!
For belt sheaths, I've been using skinth designs for over 6 years now. They're handmade in Canada out of 1000D Cordura.
I like Eric a lot, I should get a custom made.
I second Skinth solutions. Carried a modified super tool for years. Comfortable, well fit, and secure when using the double snap closure.
I've rocked one for over 5 years. Still holding up fine. Velcro needs to be replaced, but I modded it with a giant o ring as a loop to hold the flap down securely.
I should mention, I bought 2 of the same Skinths at the same time expecting it to wear out quickly, but it never did.
I just found a mint condition Leatherman Blast in a leather sheath.... I am one happy camper!! lost my own years ago and never managed to find another multitool I liked as much as the Blast.... so I feel like I found a long lost brother! LOL
As a hobby maker, these are all great points and great ideas to improve. Those key clips look amazing!
I love the Tale of Knives sheaths. They have taken a beating on my jobsites and look great with the natural war scars... Just ordered another one to use for casual wearing. The quality and workmanship are outstanding..
Have had my tale of knives sheath since 2021 with almost everyday use and it holds up amazing 100% worth the cost
Great, informative video! For the Tale of Knives, I initially purchased the Flap Jax (clip) last summer. I carry the Charge+, the NiteCore MT1A (AA battery) and a Fisher Space Pen X-Mark. The fitment for the MT1A was not a problem as I looked at the flashlight size accommodation recommended by ToK and compared with the actual dimensions of the light. I later picked up the Jax T Tux Push Up (clip) for another Charge+ and a Wave+ with the NiteCore MT2A (2X AA) and a NiteCore NTP21 pen. The light was tight but, I used a 17mm deep socket (recommended by a reviewer) to expand the slot. To persuade it further, I worked the socket forward and reverse numerous times and left the socket in for about a week to ensure a wider opening. It worked with no further issues. I also purchased a Skinth sheath and rotate both the Charge+ and Wave+. Both are excellent sheaths.
Thanks for this video. Lots of good info.
I have been thinking about getting something from Tale of Knives for a few years, but was never sure exactly what I wanted/needed. I found this video helpful, and feel more informed for when I do actually pull the trigger on getting a sheath from them.
Great collection of sheaths, each with its own functionality. We do like your recommendation. Cheers mate.
I've carried a skinth solutions sheath for many years with my work essentials in it. It holds a supertool 300, microstream, Gerber eab, victorinox executive and fisherspace pen. It's held up very well for many years. They are pretty affordable and hand made in Canada. It's an xl shield model. I've considered the tale of knives sheaths recently just have to save to get one. Great video 👍
Great review. Been researching for and trying different sheath for a long time, and this is almost like an encyclopedia.
Excellent video! Thank you for all of that information. I can certainly appreciate all of the trial and error and lessons learned that came from this.
Seeing this makes me satisfied with my own unique setup.
Just like you I spent so much time and money looking for the perfect sheath ... and I did! I finally found the perfect ... pants!!! 😅
With additional pockets, I now comfortably carry everything I need, and no sheaths anymore 🙂
Anyway, the selection you share here is really interesting.
Some very nice sheath options! I used the standard Leatherman sheaths for years.....but I have now gone to back pocket carry. Wilderness Tactical is a USA made company that makes many different styles of mag pouches. Some offer belt/ horizontal carry.....I use a double mag pouch in back pocket for Letherman, an SAK, AA flashlight...and sometimes a folding knife or Knipex....They are about $20.
Why don't you just buy Batman's Utility Belt ??? That way you can take ALL of your toys !!!!
My belt always looks like Batmans utility belt 😆 🤣 😂
Yeah my bro made that joke when he saw what i carry. Everything is very low profile though so he couldn't even see anything lol
Batman must have super strength. You tried lugging a LM surge round with you with everything else? Not to mention trying to take a dump with all that 😂
@@qaszim2012 you position it correctly on your belt it's not too bad....
Batman is great, but look carefully at Indiana Jones’s getup. He kept his pants up with a web belt and wore the pistol and whip holster on a thick belt outside the shirt. That’s the way to do it.
I've been using one of RAE Gear's sheaths for my surge. Fits it like a glove, and I can "quickdraw" my surge much faster than a traditional sheath. Can carry vertical, diagnal, or horizontal.
Love the plastic holder for the big Swisstool, light, compact, sturdy and fast to deploy. For years my swisstool was paperweight till they brought out this holster and more importantly the clip. For 20+ years old tools new high quality of life items. expensive but so worth it. and +1 for the nite ize tool sheath, very good value.
I was looking into buying a Tale of Two Knives sheath but worried about the fitment of the tools. So thank you for this video. I know what I can get now.
Just updated with a links to my favorites from TOK
😂 I use the leather sheath from the Gerber Center Drive plus with everything including leathermen’s and SOGS. It’s held up great over years.
Thumbs up on research and review. I agree with your final choice. Thanks for all the cash you spent
Cheers for this Dominic.
Belt sheaths/organisers are something I go back and forth with.
I recently started using a Maratac Deep Cover Clip pouch as my wallet/card holder. So much more comfortable have one less thing in my pockets.
I like the Viperade PJ33 or something similar, would be great to free up my pockets a bit more.
Cheers mate 👍🏻
Exactly what I'm looking for, thank you
I just ordered the MPU T TUX + CLIP for my wave amazing
The Tale of Knives are really nice!
Thank you for all the research you do. Where did you get the pen with the bits in it? Thanks, Greg.
I’ve been using the Topstache EDC Multitool Sheath from Amazon for over a year now. It’s big enough to carry the Surge, a Fenix PD35 v3.0 flashlight, bit ratchet, CRKT M21-14SF knife and keys. It’s very sturdy leather and has held up beautifully and at this price point ($23) it’s an incredible steal. If I carry the Leatherman ARC I can actually fit one bit holder in the same space as the multi tool. The only downside is the width, but that’s really on me. My pants are only a size 34 so it’s difficult fitting this sheath between the belt loops. Those that wear a larger size pants will probably make out better.
great video, would love to have a similar one for pocket organizer for EDC.
Very very useful guide. thanks!
been thinking about getting one of those tale of knives sheaths, pricey, but they seem to be the hallmark of quality for sheaths for multi tools
i have a tale of knives for my surge , light and sharpi, f++ love it its really well made
Love your videos!!
I like that yellow birch outfitters style. I work at heights so if I could incorporate a snap that would work very well for what I do everyday 👍🏾
Contact him on IG, Jay is an amazing guy
There needs to be more on this subject
I hope there is a high quality one that fits my Leatherman Surge, Raptor, & Olight Seek 4 mini. Mostly I'm worried about the Raptors because so far I can only find mid to low grade ones for those.
Not a chance from TOK, but probably from Skinth Solutions
Great video. Thank you
That Swisstech sheath has one feature that I want: Molle compatible. I want multitool, knife and flashlight with Molle.
What pen is that sir? It looks awesome.
I've had trouble finding something I liked that doesn't have velcro which I absolutely can't stand, and doesn't have elastic that always stretches / wears out on me.
I basically want a leatherman accessory pocket sheath like the one you featured ( I have the small size ) with the 2 outside loops in something other than elastic.
Do you have any recommendations for the olight arkfeld? I have it and over time carry it less and less because of other things in my pockets and a sheath would be great for me.
Very good video and an awesome channel.
On the TOK do you prefer the belt loops or the clips?
Clip & carry kydex Sheath for my Leatherman Rebar.
Have you checked out Skinth Solutions? Custom codura sheaths. I have the Shield L, Carry’s my Wave+, AAA light, Pokka Pen, but extender, and both Leatherman bit sets.
I am looking into my first EDC sheath, so I'm going cheap ($20) from Amazon. It's brown, leather, has two metal loops with a black carabineer on one side, a slot for multi-tool, one for flashlight, another to clip a knife on (has no bottom), and another for a pen. Sadly it is vertical position, not diagonal, but I'll deal with it no problem, only $20. No risk.😁
I am also looking into a two sided zippered key wallet; one side holds all the keys + a small item, and the other side could hold some screwdriver bits for the multi-tool, or extra tiny flashlight (solar powered, nice for emergency). Would you be interested in doing a review on something like that? Or are they not your thing? It's a bit large: 4.3" long, 3" wide. It is around $30.
Cheers .Any idea please , where from can I get the belt key metal clip ? In Amazon link they are out of stock .
I've had my Amazon sheath for over 2yrs now. But unfortunately I haven't been able to find the same one since I got it. Its a left side sheath wich has a large pouch for my phone , Leatherman and either i3t or i5t. Or pluses or open pros. N my keys . . Man I really would like to find a new spare tho. Where could you get custom ones?
Do you have trouble pulling the flashlight out of the Tale of Knives sheath while wearing it? I have the T Tux Double Clip and I carry an Olight Warrior Mini in there. The flashlight pulls out fine when the sheath isn't attached to a belt, but I find when attached to a belt, the double clips cause the flashlight opening to constrict and sort of pinch the flashlight making it very hard to pull out. I found it so difficult to pull out that I've started carrying a Streamlight MacroStream in my right pocket.
That's why I went up a size in the flashlight slot. So yes.
What pen is that with the 4mm bit driver
I want to know too!
There is a problem with the Nite Ize sheaths with the rotating clip. They can snag on things and the clip pops off or breaks, had it happen on a couple models with multitools or flashlights. Even happened with my phone once. Luckily noticed right away and didn't lose anything.
That sucks...thanks for heads up!
good vid thx
Does full-sized Vero Fulcrum fit in the pen slot of the MPU XL T Tux?
can you tell me the name of the small stainless steel flaslight please
wheres the links?

Tale of Knives best sheath on market. Worth the price
I actually love 1791 EDC. I’ve had 3 of their easy slide sheaths and I love all of them. Affordable, super secure hold, fantastic leather quality. Not to mention they have sizes for almost all multi tools and accessories which is also very important to me. Now they’re not the best, I know that and understand there are better options, but for my budget, they’re the best option for me.
My goat tool came today
Sorry this is off topic, but is it possible to grab your current thoughts on a couple pry bars? I've been looking to switch to a bladeless carry and pry bars have oddly enough been looking like the best route.
The options I'm looking at right now are the Griffin Adventure Tool and the Olight Opry Pro.
I'd like to have pliers, but the options seem to be basically non-existent. As it is I'm not happy about the $50 pricetags, but if it turns out to be the right one for me I could deal.
I should also note that I'm looking at keychainish size as I want it to disappear in my pocket.
Holy crap your timing, just released a video on it
@@maxlvledcI know right?! I laughed when I saw you scheduled the video. Heading over now to watch.
What about a sheath for a SAK?
Hey, I love your multitool modding videos, especially those about the signal. There's a TH-cam video where a guy manages to fit a tshank saw into it and I really wonder how good it works and if it also works with a file, but unfortunately he turned the comments off. You seem like a person willing to recreate that mod and test if it works. It it does, I'm buying a Signal the moment you make a video about it
I've done the mod..I don't think it was worth it..it basically destroys the frame.
good video
Always, ALWAYS get the flap. Why? Because then you don't need an annoying pocket clip on the multi-tool, and you're much less likely to lose the MT. The lack of a flap on the ToK setup that I want is holding me back. I wear my MT setup on the left, they make what I want for right side carry but not left. Sigh. Hopefully, ToK will be at Bladeshow West.
One thing you didn't cover is durability. Not a big consideration with many MTs, but the Leatherman OHT EATS sheaths alive. I've had a number of factory nylon sheaths for it and other MTs, they don't last and feel cheap. My Wave+ lives in a Leatherman Original single with brass button snap, and my Charge+ lives in a Spec OPS Molle sheath along with a Olight. It should be noted that both sheaths have flaps.
Have you considered something along the lines of a possibles bag or like a fanny pack? I just wonder if something like that would make it easier to carry everythyyou want cheaply.
Also if everything is on your belt you have to put everything back on your belt every time you change pants and if you wear something that doesn’t take a belt then you don’t have your edc.
@maxleveledc do you know if the leatherman arc fits into those tale of knife sheath?
100% it will with the one that fixes the P4
@@maxlvledc thank you so much for the replyz Will definitely be buying one. 👍
Could you please give me a link to the small driver tool you had with the pen (1st one)?
It's still on Indiegogo, I'll add it to the description
do you know of any company that makes a copy of the Victorinox SOS pouch? with the storage on the flap closures and all.
Hmm, not sure
I have that Leatherman Surge sheath by Leatherman, and it sucks. The side elastics let the things in it fall out. The internal pocket for the bit kit, doesn't work. The bits hang up on the seams inside the pocket. I can't get the bits in and out unless I really fiddle with it, which requires removing the sheath from my belt.
What I want to carry, is my G.O.A.T tool, two leatherman bit kits, one extender, the 711L folding ratchet head. Have not found a good sheath for this combination.
Which pry bar model is that? I can’t seem to find it on their website?
They are always limited runs..contact him on IG to find out next drop..they always sell out.
That Swiss tech isn’t really very horizontal carry… unless your belt was only as wide as a Molle strap
I realized this too late, your correct
Can the dual force fit the large sheath ?
Hmm probably..but will permanently make it impossible to carry anything else.
I'm just here for your algorithm
If it's not made from leather, it's got a 2yr lifespan.
I've heard really good things about skinth solutions.
Snake eaters burros last one you’ll ever buy they fit anything and everything shaped like a pistol mag or rifle mag check em out
The victorinix, nite-ize, swiss-tech, and leatherman sheaths do not disappear on your person, and are not secure. Those sheaths may be OK for storage, but suck on-person. No experience with the gerber sheath.
Your custom sheath has a design error that causes the folding issue, but yes, a loop in the middle is good. You sortof covered the issue on the next sheath.
I still prefer my holster, which is not in the video, but I prefer loops over clips. Clips stand out more from the body, sometimes fall off, and are less comfy. My holster also holds more items. No flap on mine. Mine is right-carry, only.
I’m not seeing the links.
Waiting with bated breath.

KILLER!
Thank you. Great info BTW.
I have had my eye on the TOK for a long time.
It might be time to pull the trigger.

As a former leather craftsman, those sheaths are too simple to make for them to have to be expensive. Once you have access to the materials, it becomes too intoxicating to resist making your own.
Yeah, I was sitting here taking notes on what to make, not what to buy. :-)
@@LarryGarfieldCrell same
Not suggesting that you do, but if you wanna expand a bit more space for your leather sheath, just soak your sheath overnight. When they got soft, squeeze in your flashlight and leave it there till the leather sets and dry. This isn't the right way to go, but it sure is a way to save that sheath, and your money.
Links please.
Fixed!
Holy crap those sheaths are expensive. 150$ for a sheath. I found one on Amazon for 20$ will do the same and if I don’t like it it won’t be such a big lose. Gonna get my woman to make me a nice one. She’s great with moose hide and leather so will see what she can do. Bet she makes a good one for way cheaper. 😂
Just put it into your pocket. Is protected, you can take it out anytime, weights nothing and is cheaper. Far cheaper.
I've lost knives that way. For me, a holster is the only correct option :(
Yeah, I do use my pockets as well. Now I am trying to pull away from doing so. Between the frayed jean pockets and after over time losing a flashlight, my Squirt Es4 T.T, a bunch of work pens, and recently, my buds live I have become more adamant about how I should keep up with what is essentially my own personal equipment.
@@michaelmartin2262 there are other options. I would suggest looking into the pocket Arc pocket organizer. And make sure your knife has a strong pocket clip. That is all.
@@Blez1224 don't think that way. I conceal carry (appendix). Another holster makes my t-shirt (which covers the gun) tighter. Those holsters make your waist bigger and you bump into stuff. Try the Arc pocket organizer and really consider what you are carrying. You loose stuff that you carry in your pockets, because it is loose. If you pack it, into a pouch, you are safe.
@@diegolainfiesta i meant a sheath, i cant carry pew pew here :(
it wasnt loose, the pocket clip got stuck into a rope. (Im a sailor) an organizer is nice, but cant fit into my pocket, and i need my knife quicker, thats why a sheath is the perfect option for me.
I understand your point, just disagree on the pocket stuff, as its not secure enough for me, and by the tíme my second knife went swimming, a TK sheath would have been cheaper :(
The leatherman surge sheath is crap. You put the couple of driver packs in there and youre not getting out that surge
SHIT, JUST BOUGHT A SMALL HOLE TORCH BEFORE I LOOKED AT YOUR VID :(
Seems like the same game as with multitools. You'll never find the perfect one for you unless you make it yourself. I feel like it's intentional.. maybe I'm crazy.
Tool belt…
A tool belt doesn't disappear on the hip, this thing does.
This sh&t is crazy
It's Max Level, man!
I'm obsessed lol
