32 years later, and the depiction of IRM is still very accurate! It's especially fun to see 3142 under restoration, since it now runs most days that the museum is open.
I grew up near the 16th street C&NW yard. I heard and saw the constant sounds of that yard in action from the banging of cars coupling to the up and down idling of the switchers. Then I rode the CSS&SB interurban from downtown Randolph street to South Bend. It's great that all of this is preserved at IRM!!!
I have been to the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, Illinois back in October 7th and 8th 2023 during the 70th anniversary there. I had got to see a lot of the equipment along with five that were running with those being their impressive J. Neils Lumber Co. Shay #5 (Built by Lima Locomotive Works in 1929), Frisco 1630 (Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1918), Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific GP7 No. 4506 (A.K.A Rock Island GP7 No. 4506, built by Electro-Motive Division in October 1952), Chicago Transit Authority Trollies 4410 and 4412 (Built by the Cincinnati Car Company in 1924), and Chicago Transit Authority Trolley 3142 (Built by the J.G. Brill Company in 1923).
The SOUTH SHORE LINE didn't have the traffic between South Bend and Chicago that the North Shore Line had between Milwaukee and Chicago. That's why the South Shore Line never had trainsets like the Electroliners.
That doesn't matter as the CSS&SB survives and still operates. I rode the vomit comit in early 80s from downtown Chicago to South Bend. Always a great ride. I'd go to my uncle's place in South Bend. I'd bring a big bag of Polish sausage with cabanosa sausage and rye bread. I'd always meet dude with tall boys and they'd trade me cans for some good ole Joe and Franks!

I remember this on vhs as part of a triple feature with a video on the Blue Mountain & Reading, and the Roaring Camp railroads.

34 years later, those machines are still working!

The music that starts at 20:23 has haunted me for years. I heard it while I was on hold on the phone once too. Any clue what it could be?
Probably means it's just stock music. I only recognise the instruments used which are from the Korg M1.
I think the set of the Electroliner the IRM has had been in a few crashes in its working life
