Worked like a charm! I accidentally deleted my setting trying to free up space and it was the folder Photoshop uses to launch. Did the trick, it reset, now i'm back in.
Massive thanks! I was doing it before clicking and it never worked and no one ever told us to do it just after you click (not before). That was the secret.
THANK YOU. I was trying to fix my photoshop for hours before I realized I could just reset the prefs. And then that took me forever to do because everybody else made it so complicated ;x
Thanks! I opened my photoshop a week ago and everything was out of touch. The background color was different, the color picker was messed up and nothing seemed normal at all. I've been using CS6 instead of my CC, and stumbled upon this video and it helped tremendously :D Now I can use CC again!
Thank you SO much! I was getting so annoyed. Every time I tried to pick a color with the eyedropper, it would freeze. Fixed now. At least there is something going RIGHT in 2020!
Just so that you guys know, on Mac the shortcut is: CMD-SHIFT-OPTION. For many users this WILL NOT work. It used to work for me, but now it does not work for many users. This is the other way you can do it. MACINTOSH: You want to open finder and then go to the "Go" option. This is one of the options that are next to the apple icon on the top left corner of the screen. Then you want to go to Library; however, by default the Library is hidden. To make it appear just press ALT while on the "Go" option. Library should show up under "Home". Then, open the library and follow this path: Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings/Adobe Photoshop CS6 Prefs.psp Once you find the file called Adobe Photoshop CS6 Prefs.psp, just delete it. This is actually the right way to restore your Adobe Photoshop preferences. Using the shortcut is just a "quick and dirty way to restore your preferences". WINDOWS: Under Windows XP the preference file will be found at: %windir%\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Adobe\PhotoshopCS6\Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings\Adobe Photoshop CS6 Prefs.psp Under Vista and Windows 7 or 8, the preference file will be found at: Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings\Adobe Photoshop CS6 Prefs.psp You can find more information about it here: forums.adobe.com/thread/963474 You did a great video, though. I'm just trying to give the full information to those who are having troubles following your steps.
It didn't fix my problem :( The big problem I'm having is when I go to the file tab or any tabs menu bar it's all blacked out and I have to go over each thing to see what I'm looking at PLease Please Help!
John, I'm not sure what you're doing wrong, but I've tested it again, just to ensure this still works in Creative Cloud, and it works. Are you sure you're holding the keys down immediately after launching the software?
hi, i am trying to open an image in Photoshop/creating new image but it's not showing.it's just stay on the gray background. Anyone who could help me?Thanks
Thanks so much. This helped me right away. I think people in the comments got a bit confused and forgot they need to HOLD the shift, ctrl, alt button. Not just press it once.
it didnt work for me is there something else i can do? I am just trying to edit text and it is telling me "could not use the type of tool because of program error"
It sounds as if you have bigger issues Lindsey. Sorry. Check this link: feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/program_error_when_using_type_tool
yeah i did this, doesnt work. using laptop held both, just kept holding it in and pressing the launch in the welcome menu and it just sits there doing absolutely nothing
I tried this and it worked for a couple of minutes and now photoshop is back with " could not complete because there is not enough memory (RAM)", altough I have plenty of memory!! gaaaargh. I'm to untechnical for this, I just want to draw D:
This is absolutely ridiculous that photoshop users have to do this. If my software team leader designed a program that required users to do this before its final launch to the public I'd show him the door not before kicking him up the ass. If you can't design a program that is simple to use you certainly won't be working for me I don't care how difficult the task is.

It is a much better method. You can already before running Photoshop, keep these 3 keys and are now just open the program.
I tried this and it worked for a couple of minutes and now photoshop is back with " could not complete because there is not enough memory (RAM)", altough I have plenty of memory!! gaaaargh. I'm to untechnical for this, I just want to draw D:
