Um no the bathroom scene is not like H20 at all. In H20 he goes into the bathroom and takes the ladies purse. That's it. In the new one, he stalks the reporter and then kills her. The only similarity is the bathroom. It's not "exactly" the same scene.
Also an homage to Halloween The Curse Of MM, when he’s stalking Jamie Lloyd in the beginning, he goes in the bathroom and opens each stall like that. I thought it was a pretty suspenseful scene, myself, but I just wish they hadn’t shown all of it in the trailer lol.
Harris Highlights In one of the trailers, the journalist says " after taking 6 bullets, he passed out in an alley and they captured him " Not exactly what it was said but something similar They maybe should have mentioned it in the movie though
I like how they keep locking him up like he's a normal human being. The guy can take more bullets than a kelvar vest, and yet they still treat him so flippantly. I'm surprised he was never experimented on lol.
There's a scene or two referencing that the sheriff in this movie was the one that picked him up. They don't dwell on it much. I noticed more plot the 2nd and 3rd time. I (for one) enjoyed it a lot. haha
I wish I could've been in the room to correct some of what they say during this analysis. I love Chris, but as a life long Halloween fan, I'm a bit disappointed he didn't even get the point of why they showed Allyson still holding the knife in the truck. Jamie Lee Curtis has said in so many interviews that she hated how John Carpenter made Laurie drop the knife multiple times in the original. So this new film made it a point to show you that this newer generation has learned from those past generations mistakes. Made perfect sense to me. Wasn't anything jarring about it.
Enerdtayment but why have that be the last scene of the film. It’s smart to keep the knife, but what significance does it bring to garner the last scene in the movie
Movie Addict 101 Just as I said, it signified to me that this new generation has learned from our elders. Laurie wasn't prepared in the original, where as Alyson had heard about Michael her whole life. So she won't be affected by him the same way her grandmother was.
As am I. Would have had a lot to say. Halloween (1978) is one of my favorite films but if we want to get this damn critical, I could tear it apart and ruin my enjoyment too. The only thing I agree with them on is the doctor twist. I think they could have handled that a lot better or found a more realistic way to get Michael to Lauries prepper house.
@@movieaddict1017 Also could be seen as a symbol of lost innocence. A teenager ends the film with a bloody knife in her hand - there's no going back from that, or from the knowledge that her grandmother, whom everyone thought was paranoid, was right.
I disagree, I enjoyed this movie. Not without its flaws, obviously, but it's filmed extremely well and it is suspenseful at times. Michael Myers is intimidating and Curtis is amazing.
@Niger Nelly But did you notice, the CCTV monitors and computers in the asylum we're grossly outdated for 2018. Plus the kid with the rifle had a flip phone.
Yeah micheal Myers and Laurie strode were barely in the movie and the rest were filled with stupid characters that didn’t need to be there. You could say that the original Halloween had stupid characters but that was made 40 years ago and this movie should’ve just been about Laurie
ikr? I dunno why Chris & John thought that was the exact same scene from that film, what he does to the woman in this one was what we all thought he was gonna do to the lady in H20. He spares the lady in H20 & brutally kills her and the other guy in this film. If anything, it was a nod to that scene, there are various nods to many films in the Halloween franchise, the Silver Shamrock masks were in this one, those two cops joking were a reference to the cops in Part 5, the evil doctor twist was a reference to Halloween 6 and even the face stomp was a nod to RZ's Halloween 2 where Michael stomps the guy's head outside the strip club. Chris should've caught all of these but it seems like he saw only the negatives in this film.
The twist with the doctor was easily the weakest part of the film, but it didn't kill the movie for me. It was a dumb little subplot that could've been handled better, but after he died, the rest of the movie was back on track. It didn't bother me as much as the twist of Michael and Laurie being siblings in Halloween 2, because not only was that mishandled and badly written, but it retconned the original film and changed Michael's motivations. This new film was not as good as the original, obviously, but I do think this is the best Michael Myers halloween film since the original. This film was full of really suspenseful, brutal sequences that were really well shot. The comedy relief only bothered me a couple of times honestly, and even then, were only nitpicks to me. I think this film could've been improved with better editing. But my issues with Halloween 2018 were really just nitpicks for the most part. The bathroom sequence, the tracking shot of Michael killing innocent people in the neighborhood, the part where he murders the babysitter, and the final showdown with Laurie I thought were all really excellent. Those scenes were definitely the highlights of the film for me. I love John Carpenters Halloween, but even that was a flawed masterpiece. That film was not devoid of problems. I don't think this new film is a masterpiece by any means, but was still really well made and was full of intense moments and an outstanding musical score. I'd give Halloween 2018 a B+, a worthy successor to John Carpenters Halloween and one I'm very much looking forward to watching again.
@@ParisofNowhere Thanks! And I totally understand where Chris and John are coming from, I've been a big fan of them for over five years. Halloween (2018) just really worked for me more than them. Yeah it has issues, but mostly just nitpicks for me. I think the doctor subplot could've worked, there were some good ideas there. I get what the filmmakers were going for, I just didn't think it was well executed. But I was very happy with the rest of the film. I'm really looking forward to seeing it again.
@@ParisofNowhere I agree. I do like Halloween II (1981) but I prefer this new film as a sequel to the original because I think it more naturally moves the story forward with Michael and Laurie. I'm glad they are no longer siblings, their dynamic in the original and this new film is more interesting. Plus the twist with Michael and Laurie being siblings was pretty convoluted to say the least. John Carpenter himself never wanted to write Halloween II, and it's always been clear that he's never really been happy with it.
Robert Wild I have to disagree that the siblings subplot in H2 ruined Michael’s motivations from the original film. I personally felt it was hinted at and foreshadowed all along even if John himself says it wasn’t so. It’s possible it was always in John’s mind subconsciously even if he wasn’t self aware at the time because what possible explanation would there be for Michael to have ever uprooted Judith Myers’s tombstone then? It just doesn’t make sense. And then he placed the headstone over Laurie’s friend’s corpse. Personally I interpret that as Michael taunting her as his sister with what he did to his other sister. I interpret it as he had that motivation all along and knew she was his sister but Laurie herself and we as the audience don’t find out until the sequel.
@@sociopathsurvivor7129 That's totally fair, but my biggest issue is Laurie having repressed memories of seeing Michael when she was younger, then she starts dreaming about it after she's told Michael Myers was the killer who just attacked her. Laurie ever meeting Michael when she was younger was simply unnecessary. Loomis and Laurie should've had more screen time together at the end of Halloween II, and he could've told her about her relation to Michael. It was just overly convoluted and unnecessary in my opinion. As for what he was doing with the tombstone, I thought it was just Annie who reminded him of his sister, or it was just Michael being a morbid prankster. That's an element of his character that I'm really glad this new film brought back. Whether he puts on the clown mask or the white sheet as a ghost, Michael sure does love celebrating Halloween in his own way. It's always seemed like Halloween is a holiday that really brings something out of Michael. As for why he targets Laurie, it's important to remember the strodes were selling the Myers house, and her placing the key under the mat is when he targets her. I prefer his motives being more of a mystery, but once he targets someone, he's relentless. So, in this new film, I think whatever obsession Michael has with Laurie comes down to the fact that she's the one that got away. It's totally cool that you have a different interpretation of their dynamic, it's just something that's never worked for me personally. I still enjoy Halloween II, but the twist of them being siblings and the fact that Michael was literally burnt to a crisp at the end of that film makes me totally understand why the new film is just a sequel to the original. Despite a few continuity errors, I don't see why fans cant still enjoy Halloween II as well as this new version. When I marathon some of the Halloween movies next year, I'll probably stick with the first three films and then this one.
Robert Wild I see your points there too. Although I like the way I interpret it with the tombstone, I will tell you one of the main things that truly bugged me about this new movie was the fact that we don’t even see the Myers house at all. It really bothers me that Michael never truly “comes home” in this movie. That to me is always what made Michael who he is around Halloween. I would have liked to see how the Myers house would look 40 years later from the original. The dollhouse just didn’t do it for me and really felt forced. In many ways I really felt the filmmakers spent too much time prioritizing Easter eggs and just tried too hard to include them and ended up sacrificing true quality and effective tightening of the plot and pacing at their expense.
TheFenerbahceSK He was 21 in the original movie which came out/takes place in 1978 so let’s do the math. 2018 - 1978 = 40 years 21 + 40 = 61 years I’ve met 61 year olds in better shape than me.
My favorite scene was the gas station bathroom scene. I thought it was just done great, it made Michael seem so scary and intimidating. But the doctor thing was idiotic.
I totally agree. I liked the granddaughter more than the daughter character. All her. Friends were lame. The doctor character was lame. I thought this was awesome. My favorite out of all of them. It destroys the original
Yeah and then grazes the side of his face. Such an obvious forced missed at point blank because they can't just kill him off like that. But it's so dumb and unrealistic since she's been shooting since a child
Yup! Liked when he told the nannies boyfriend don't go upstairs you gonna die while running out the house. Anyone could relate to being that kid in that situation.
The only problem with the laughs then kid provided was it took away from the shock and horror of the scene where Michael attacks Vicki. They could have pulled back a bit on the comedy there.
I have to disagree with you guys on this one. This movie definitely had flaws but I thought most of it worked. The execution with the doctor’s arc could have been done better but it was obvious to me from the beginning of the movie that he weirdly empathized with Michael and I actually predicted that he would betray the cop. He was sad they were sending Michael to a worse hospital even though Michael deserved it. He wanted to go on the bus with Michael which makes me think maybe he’s the one who freed him. He also throughout the movie kept emphasizing that he didn’t want anybody to kill Michael because the doctor wanted to study him. He spent 40 years studying Michael and felt his life’s purpose was to understand why Michael was a killer and what he felt when killing, and the cop was about to to kill Michael and ruin his only chance of seeing Michael in action, which he’d been wanting his whole career. So the doctor was willing to throw everything away to finally understand the most interesting person he’d ever encountered. He killed the cop to know what Michael felt when killing and wanted to let Michael loose on Laurie because he hoped maybe Michael would finally speak and the doctor could finally understand his way of thinking. That’s why he didn’t even beg Michael for his life, his last words were him asking Michael to speak because that’s what he wanted more than anything. The execution could have been much better but I thought it worked pretty well. He had a boring job for 40 years and he wanted more so he did what he thought he had to do to fulfill his life’s purpose. Like I said before I think he went on that bus to free Michael and had been planning to all along so he didn’t just suddenly decide to be a killer. It was under the surface the whole time. It’s not unheard of for madness like Michael’s to spread and they say psychopaths are attracted to the medical field. This movie wasn’t perfect but it was definitely my favorite of the Halloween sequels and the third act felt more tense then any horror movie I’ve seen in a while. It scared me more than IT and everyone loved that movie. I also thought Jamie Lee Curtis nailed it. I give it a B-.
"obvious to me from the beginning of the movie that he weirdly empathized with Michael" I'm not even so sure that he "empathized" with him so much as he wanted to *understand* him completely. But I agree that his mentality should have been made clearer earlier in the film. A+ comment
The doctor scene didn't bother me at all. I love good misdirections in movies. The only things I can think of that would of ruined the film or come close to ruining it is if the doctor and Michael teamed up and killed together or Michael talked. That shit would of pissed me off. The story was good and to me and I know many others it is without a doubt the best one since the original.
I agree with howthe doctor became this fixated on him and how it could have been better represented on film. Also, yes it was a pretty clear message that there is no understanding how Michael ticks. There is nothing there to discover. He likes to kill.
17:20 I loved the kid - he was great. Also, the babysitter was the only kill that I actually felt sorry for. Her and the kid had a great dynamic and there was more character development in this one scene than anything from the granddaughter. Also, what was up with the motorcycle in the shed scene? Was that like a reference to another movie? otherwise I don't see any point in it.
Oh man...I couldn't disagree with you guys more. The movie was great and really enjoyable. It's not a perfect movie but it was beautifully shot with an incredible sound track. Michael was scary and the acting was awesome.
It’s enjoyable, but it wasn’t great. I think it’s just that he expected more, and was let down because it could have been better. You saw a glimpse of greatness, but it wasn’t quite there
I agree. It was very entertaining. Some parts were questionable though. Why didn't Michael kill the baby? The guy is pure evil. Are they trying to make the audience feel sympathy for him? That was way out of character. Not that I would want to see a baby get killed. That whole scene was just wrong.
DeathCreationist what annoyed me is how they don’t understand why a doctor would help Michael Myers...did they not see Halloween 5 or 6? He was supposed to represent Dr. Winn aka The Man in Black. Loomis thought Michael should be killed because he’s evil. Dr Winn found Michael to be fascinating and wanted to keep Michael alive to study him. The same as this doctor. Any fan of the Halloween series would’ve caught that
@@ReelNinja1 that's funny because John Carpenter ignored all those films to make a sequel to his original because he hated all the other films, so to pay homage to something you hate is strange 🤔
J. Sanchez John Carpenter didn’t write or direct this film. Comedian Danny McBride did with 2 other writers. They were fans of the franchise but wanted to stay true to Carpenter’s vision of Michael having no relation to Laurie
I feel James Wan would've been the same mistake they made with H20. They brought the Scream team to essentially make a 90s movie that happened to have Michael Myers in it. I feel Wan would've made one of his movies with Michael Myers tacked on. I like Halloween (2018) because it felt like a Carpenter movie which is what Halloween is!
@@TheTillmanSneakerReview No; what makes something scary, especially in the case of Halloween, is the uncertainty. We don’t understand WHY Michael does what he does. That leaves it up to the audience to fill in the blanks. So many horror movies nowadays seem to forget it’s just as much about what you DON’T show the audience than what you do. At least this film got that right. That’s also one of the reasons Rob Zombie’s version is bad. I don’t need to feel sympathy for Michael by showing his origin. Not doing so makes him an evil supernatural entity almost, because we don’t understand how or why he does what he does. Halloween 4 - 6 also tried to explain it, and those sucked too. He’s the boogeyman; he doesn’t need an origin story, and it’s not even unique, since other Halloween films have already tried and failed.
@@TheTillmanSneakerReview Man I would have LOVED to see the anthology series 100%. I really want to know if they had any other ideas for Halloween 4+ before the third film didn’t do so well.
@@nationalcoasternews5798 He's probably retiring from directing. He hasn't direct a movie since 2010 with The Ward. For the new Halloween movies, he rather served as executive producer than as a writer or even as a director
Stuckmann has going on and on and on for so many years. It's truly an inspiration to see you going on with this constancy. Thanks for inspiring a small TH-camr like me.
The doctor didnt bother me as much. I kinda saw it as 1. He's been researching his patient for how many years, we saw the affect Myers had on the other inmates when the mask was presented to him, i don't think its too farfetched to think, the Dr's obsession made him become mentally unstable. 2. He reacted violently to the cop, because in a way, what would the doctor too with his life afterwards, after spending so much time with him over the 40years. 3. The Dr spoke about ' this is what killing felt like' it was clear he was crazy from the start, in regards to what his plan was, have Laurie and Myers meet,... just to see what happens? But getting back to my point, the Dr, wanted to 'understand Myers and what Evil was' so its not farfetched to see this obsessive taking things too far, in the heat of the moment. 4. When Myers killed him, i kinda saw it as like, a 'Doom-guy (from the 2016 game) approach'. What i'm tryna say is, when we as an audience are thinking, what the hells is gonna happen now, are the 2 gonna team up, coz we say Myers leave him alone before, Myers had a Doom-guy moment. It was supposed to tell us, NO, you CANNOT understand what evil is, or what i am. Once the Dr put the mask on, he signed his own death warrant. 5. The film was a B movie, so i thought it kinda fit, thematically.
I just watched the film. It was great in my opinion, Had a really fun time. shame Chris and his slave didn't enjoy it. Maybe they looked into it too much.
Yep! The movie does have a psychological aspect with Laurie's obsession over Michael and we see how it affected her life for the last 40 years, and then we have "the new Doctor Loomis" who's also had an obsession similar to Laurie's and we get to see how in the end it affects him, too. I didn't really enjoy how it paid off in the end with him pulling on the mask etc. but I saw it being pretty clever!!
I agree, I think the explanation for the doctors behavior is that he became obsessed with Michael over the years and lost his mind. Nothing mattered anymore but Michael and if I'm correct with him being taken to the new facility he would no longer be his patient. The scene with the other mental patients and the mask was stupid.
I have to say, your non-spoiler review really affected me. Before I saw Halloween, I had read nothing but glowing reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, which I suspected could be overhype. But I have to say, you were right in a lot of your criticisms. The way I really knew we were not in a the hands of maestro (in terms of directing), was the scene when the granddaughter is lost in the woods and gets freaked out by all the mangled mannequins that Laurie had shot up. At this point, we KNOW Michael Myers is back at Laurie's house terrorizing her. The crazy doctor is dead. So really, there is NO reason for Allyson (the granddaughter) to be scared. There is no threat. That was just like wasted footage.
When I saw this movie, I didn't realize that they were ignoring all the other movies so I was really confused. Once I ignored all the stuff after the 2nd Halloween, I enjoyed it
Easily this is my favorite Halloween sequel because you can tell the people who made this movie cared about the series and characters. Also there is a reference or call back to every Halloween movie in this one, that’s where the Halloween 2 call back was from.
I respect your opinion, but I fucking loved this movie. Even the weird doctor twist. I haven't seen any of the other Halloweens outside of the original in a very long time. So maybe that's why i enjoyed it more than you did. I don't even remember a lot of these scenes from other movies your talking about.
American Gadfly Yeah if you’re wondering specifically about the bathroom scene they refer to where the “woman dies” and is “exactly like” the new Halloween, then it makes total sense why you wouldn’t remember cuz not only was that scene shot totally differently with totally different context but the woman also doesn’t even die.
I thought it was the best halloween since the first one, I think critics miss the point of slasher movies, there not meant to be masterpieces, old classics like nightmare on elm street and the original halloween are great movies but I think ppl are viewing them through nostalgic eyes, and don’t give the newer slasher films a chance. Compared to all the trash that has been released after the scream resurgence like the elm street remake, Friday remake and the god awful rob zombie Halloween’s this new halloween hit all the right notes for me. If ppl don’t give these movies a fair chance it’s gonna be the death of the slasher genre which is a shame, because I’m sick of all the unoriginal ghost films being made...
The original was a more slow-burning suspense film. Michael took his time and did much more stalking. This one had the daunting task of trying to please fans of every movie in the series. In this one, Michael has more of a sense of urgency, trying to kill as many people as possible (because he knows everyone is looking for him), while also showing how much his rage has built over the last 40 years. Honestly, this sequel makes perfect sense to me. Even the crazy doctor, having become "infected" by Michael's evil. They needed a semi-plausible way of having Michael escape, which was obviously the doctor's doing. And the ambiguous ending, leaving the possibility of Michael being alive and Laurie being dead, with Allyson having been passed the torch (still holding the knife). Like I said, I just think it all makes sense as is. To each his own though.
I am one of the biggest Halloween fans I saw it at age 4 and it gave me nightmares ever since😂but as a Extremely huge fan of the franchise I think it is the best sequel this did not disappoint what’s so ever idk what you were exactly expecting from this film chris??
I prefer Halloween ll over this, this movie is great but that shot in ll when he gets shot in both eyes “no pun intended” and the blood comes down from his eye holes in his mask is absolutely beautiful. Then afterwards when he starts swinging randomly hoping to kill something is quite incredible as it shows Michael at his lowest point and that scene has no music, no sound except just the sound of him swinging and Laurie crying and Loomis screaming for her to go! Incredible film!
I usually agree with Chris Stuckmann but definitely not this time around! Wow wow wow is all I can say. Halloween 2018 was BY FAR the BEST sequel in the Halloween franchise in my opinion. It had the perfect atmosphere and the musical score couldn't have been any more perfect. One of the best soundtracks that I've heard in a long time to be honest. It was shot beautifully and was a perfect mixture of old and new. You could tell that David Gordon Green really cared for how this movie turned out. He wanted to pay proper homage to John Carpenter's classic. In other words, I could tell I was watching a Halloween movie all the way through just from the style and unease that the movie gave me. The other cool thing is If you know the films well enough you'll catch some familiar names and little nods to the original. It went above and beyond anything I could've expected!! Even made me jump 2 or 3 times. People are complaining about the comedic scenes in certain parts of the film. Personally I think it gives the characters a more realistic touch. A loving family that jokes with each other, a couple cops giving each other shit, a baby sitter and kid messing with each other. IT'S NORMAL! Plus it gives a good break in between the intense scenes! Think of it as a horror filled roller coaster. Other people were getting into it just as much as I was in the theater. Clapping at certain points and cheering. I haven't had that much fun at a movie in a long time! In conclusion, if you're looking for a good horror movie to see this Halloween season, go see it!!!
Wow I couldn’t disagree more with some of these points. All of these characters were really likeable. Probably the best thing this movie did was set up really quickly a story for each character. Most horror movies characters are there for kills. The score in this movie was fucking awesome. The doctor was definitely the worst character and the twist almost ruined the movie. This movie was really well done, not perfect but I’ll 100% be putting this right next to the original on my shelf.
They complain about the characters mentioning that Michael and Laurie aren't related as though that scene wasn't necessary but how else would you know they weren't related if it wasn't for that scene? Such a lame complaint.
@@SumDumGy I know. I'm talking about the part at 13:09 where Chris complains about that scene. "We're not stupid. We've heard it a thousand times. They're not siblings anymore. We get it". How would you know they're not siblings without that scene? You literally need that scene in the movie to establish that Michael and Laurie aren't related anymore so Chris' complaint about that scene was ridiculous.
@@leroymelancholy3825 Chris is obviously stupid....that scene was basically there to explain to the casual audience that maybe still confused about the brother sister angle.
@@CPSlayer It's not just the casual audience. The scene exists to establish that they're not related anymore. If you take that scene out, everyone would think they're still related. The filmmakers explaining things in interviews and promotional material doesn't count. If something isn't explained in the film, then that's a failure of the writer.
I think you guys misunderstood the doctor’s reason for the killing the cop. Imagine you’re tasked with diagnosing Michael Myers, trying to find a reason for why he does it. Is the only possible explanation that he’s pure evil, it can drive any man insane. The doctor becomes obsessed with trying to solve why Michael does what he does that he’s willing to risk everything just to get a taste of a motive, any sign of enjoyment or satisfaction, not just the lifeless husk of a man he’s seen for 40 years. While the scene could’ve played out better I really liked the idea, and thought it fit well with the other themes of the movie, and what it takes to turn a person mad. Hopefully that makes sense
AJF Studios if they left it to him being upset Michael was nearly killed by the truck, that would make sense But they made him just turn into someone who obviously was prepared to kill and put the mask on?? For 7 seconds and just drop it? That was so dumb and makes no sense even if he was obsessed with his work it was bad writing.
Yes this is absolutely what the doctor represented. He was the opposite of Loomis(who wanted Michael to be stopped) while he wanted to see him on the loose killing . Unfortunately for him, he found out that was a bad idea lol
I'll have to disagree, that was a nice little and scary film and Jamie Lee Curtis knocked it out of the park. Watchable for the continuation of Laurie's story alone imo.
@@streetrat48 no wasted screen time, better kills, better ending, better characters. the only enjoyable part of the 2018 one was the ending. which was still kinda booty.
I don't know what people were expecting or what movie people were watching, but this movie literally took everything the 1st Halloween was to another level. It was scary, it was suspenseful, well acted for the most part, Michael Myers looked great, solid 8/10 from me. I just think some people have this inner director in them, where in their minds they've won 20 academy awards for best picture and they just want to criticize the hell of out a film because it makes them feel.... cool or smart? :-/ just go to the movies and try to enjoy yourselves.
Well said I really liked their reviews but they won too many Oscars and stuff, but then again they really like over the top and idk I wish they didn't criticize the movie
I agree with everything you said except that the movie was scary or suspenseful. I think they really failed in that aspect, there should’ve been creepy stalking scenes and at least one intense chase scene.
Guys. This was great! Loved this review. I agree with everything. Sorry for the hate that’s coming your way for this. You two are the best on TH-cam. Please keep it up!
This movie was horrible so many dumb moments like when Jamie Lee locks the house up but then leans, against the door so he can grab her through the door.
Why do people want to see a replica just watch the first movie if you want to reminisce. This movie was a mediocre 6/10 Michael was great Laurie was great and everyone else was trash. Everyone did the exact same cliche shit from every horror film. I was rooting for Michael at this point, people need to get over the whole "it reminds me of the first one".
i wanted to see a film of laurie confronting her fears because thats what the trailers gave us but the movie has soo many charecters that are just wasting so much screentime, chris is right laurie felt secondary i would even go as far to say that michael was also very secondary it should've been just about Laurie and Michael why have so many screentime dedicated to needles charecters? They make stupid choices and make the plot confusing as the video stated plot devices the boyfriend needed to get mad with alyson so he could throw her phone away, all that teen drama to get to that point and once he wasnt needed he never appeared again , sartain was just there so that alyson could get to laurie and once he wasnt needed they kill him off , the podcasters were there for the mask and once michael gets the mask they die because they're sudenly not important wich is stupid they have so many screentime only to disappear in the middle of everything, and its all this back and forth thing ,theres so much going on and so little at the same time , if i would've made it would be in a more suburban type of street, haddonfield should have a certain atmosphere i would just dedicate screentime to laurie and michael laurie having all the family problems etc while confronting ting her fears and michael being this creepy stalker or laurie teaming up with officer hawkins wich is a great waisted charecter it would be nice to see them looking for michael in the streets with many trick or treaters walking by or even some michael look alikes idk maybe have a scene in where officer hawkins explains to laurie about what happened that night when they caught michael and locked him up or what happened when they took of his mask or what they saw in his eyes how he sort of believed loomis and what was loomis reaction when michael got locked up ,then maybe show a scene in where laurie is becoming like loomis those would be callbacks with a porpuse not just fanboy easter eggs, or show michael returning the Meyer's house it needed atmosphere and suspense but they went for a dumb slasher with comedy in it ,i dont mind comedy but dont have it in bewteen a tense moment have it way before or way after ,they are things that i did liked the cinematography was good , the score is amazing, Michael's mannerism the mask every technical aspect of the film is great but storywise its a huge mess
1. Michael doesn’t kill the woman in the bathroom in H20. 2. I enjoyed the scene with the cops eating their lunch. It painted them as sympathetic and showed a little bit of chemistry they had as partners. It also fleshed out how they viewed Will Patton’s character. 3. When the doctor mentioned he hated Michael being transferred to a facility without proper food, exercise or sunlight I knew something was up with him.
Personally, I really liked this Halloween movie. I thought it was extremely well made and captured the spirit of Halloween very well. I didn't dislike any of the characters except one or two. The doctor segments was pretty good I thought. Hate that he killed Will Pattons character though. Pattons character should have been killed by Myers.
You two :) I love how Chris' eyes get redder and redder from laughter. I actually didn't mind the movie at all but my expectations weren't as high as yours were ha.
I personally loved this movie. It wasn’t the best movie in the world but imo it’s the second best Halloween movie behind of course the original Halloween
I don't understand the Black Sheriffs role in the movie. Not that he's black, or a sheriff. But wtf was his role? Why was he there? He wasn't really trying to derail the investigation, and I think he had maybe 5 lines of dialogue that didn't really do anything for either the movie, the plot, or his character. It was very overacted and just seemed really out of place. Haddonfield didn't have head sheriffs like that, nor does ANY sheriffs office anywhere in the US. I literally do not even remember the characters name.
Also, how the fuck old is Will Patton's character supposed to be in this movie???? If he was a first responder, 40 years ago, obviously a sheriff then? He had to have been at minimum, 21. About the same age as Micheal when he was "captured". So is that dude supposed to be a 60+ year old sheriff? How in the fuck. He would not be doing the patrol route thing. That guy would be a desk jockey back at dispatch getting ready to retire. Old cops are put into offices because their bodies run down from the stress and the job. No way, no fucking WAY he is still out and about doing patrol work. There is so much wrong with the movie, im glad these two are some of the only ones to see it that way. How does a fucking podcaster get Micheal's fucking mask???? WHY are the security cameras in the hospital still using old as fuck tv tube screens??? What the fuck kind of recorder were they using? Nothing from 2018, it looked more like something from the 80's, so during the first part of the movie I thought maybe it wasn't 40 years later, but 10 ish. How does Micheal have enough room in the back of a squad blazer to kick that hard into the back seat?? You can clearly see its properly fenced. Micheal is 6'5" maybe taller, there is no fucking way he had leg room enough to do that. SO MUCH WRONG WITH THIS MOVIE.
If you look at the movie from a thematic POV, it really comes down to this line the sheriff had: “What are we going to do, cancel Halloween?” And while you may be reasonably thinking “Yes?! Like of course?!?” That’s the whole point of his character. Think about how when natural disasters happen, people don’t take them as seriously as they should have, and someone winds up dead. He’s the person who had the power to warn others and do his due diligence, but chose to ignore it for conveniences sake.
I love the new Halloween movie and I have never felt this delighted and more happier than I ever felt so I love the new Halloween movie for a reason so I love David Gordon Green’s take he earned my respect and I felt comfortable with the idea of being able to enjoy the privilege of seeing the new Halloween movie it was a fantastic pleasure seeing the new Halloween movie in the theatre also the new Halloween is better than a couple of movies I didn't enjoy this year
Or the fact that the dad died and not a single person other than the grandmother and Michael Meyers knew he was dead. Like they burned down the house and neither the mother or daughter asked where he was
I went to the Carpenter concert on Halloween day to see him and his band perform his scores, and I gotta say......this is a pretty beloved sequel amongst his fans from what I gathered by talking to people. So I guess that’s what really matters. Well directed, great photography direction and vision, and the score was killer. With how the industry is now, I’m glad we got what we saw!
Interesting. I remember reading once, in relation to Weasel's nightmare in Last House on the Left, that having your teeth knocked out is a deeply rooted fear in many people, that it represents vulnerability.
The reason why the original 1978 film is better than the 2018 one is due to who made it. Not just John Carpenter but the rest of the cast and crew. Alan Howarth’s score ( made with John Carpenter ) set the atmosphere. That 1978 film had a sense of dread in every scene. The 2018 one didn’t.
the ending for me felt like I was watching home alone with all these stupid booby traps and the basement being a cage, plus the fact that Michael Myers has the strength to stomp a mans skull to pieces and rip a table from the ground but cant over power an old woman, a middle aged woman and a teenage girl smh, shit really pissed me off edit: they made that same comparison i was thinking lmao
Thanks for the detailed and informative review! Think I will pass on it. It's been 40 years since the original, and history is telling me they can't come even close to it.
Wow James Wan I've really grown to love his work. Upgrade is so underrated and that blew me away. One of the best Cyberpunk movies ever and it's premise while similar to Venom, even with a much much lower budget it blows the pants off Venom in every way. It was so streamlined and perfect editing. James Wan also had to teach himself everything about directing with Saw because he wrote an incredible script and wanted it done with a specific vision so he had to learn to do it himself, and he's improved so much since then.
I didn’t watch the movie until recently so I missed this review until now. I have to say that I’m really surprised by their reactions. The original Halloween is one of my 2 favorite horror movies ever and I felt this was a worthy successor. The part with the doctor surprised me, but I didn’t feel it was forced and I felt the way Michael killed him was perfect.
I agree with EVERYTHING in this review. I was so disappointed with this movie. But then again, this was a Blumhouse production, so my standards for this film weren't really high to begin with.
The best way I can describe this movie is by comparing it to a meal. Imagine if you had the most amazing meal you had ever eaten in your entire life, you like it so much that you order it again the next time you go back but something is different about it. While it is still good, it's just missing something that makes it perfect like the first time you had it
Because its not prepared by the original chef. Its more like they changed chefs at the restaurant over the years, and while it isn't as best as the original chef prepared it, its better than how some of the other chefs have prepared it over the years.
I saw it as, when you have something the 1st time, it will always be the best. It like drug users getting their 1st high, highs that come after are never the same
Blue Lions TV That is 100% correct. I wasn't bouncing in my chair or on the edge my seat during the second viewing. Nor did I expect to be. The first time of something this good will always be better than every viewing after. It's the exact same with some of my all time favorite movies. The first time watching them was always the best. I don't consider this a problem at all. I still very much enjoyed the second viewing.
There's no way we watched the same movie. Halloween (2018) is one of the best slasher films I've seen since the original and is easily the best sequel in the entire franchise. One of the things this movie did so well was convince me to care about the majority of people killed in the film. This helped to re-establish Michael Myers as the personification of pure evil and ultimately made him scary again. Speaking of which, James Jude Courtney's performance as "the shape" rivaled Nick Castle's performance in the original. As far as the funny moments, they felt natural to me. Never forced or out of place. Even the cops talking about the food they brought on their stakeout felt like a realistic conversation you'd imagine they'd be having at that point. The score/soundtrack for this movie was incredible. It improved upon the original and had a modern flare to it. The cinematography was on point. The acting was solid. The kills were just the right blend of gruesome and suspenseful. The only thing I can see being polarizing is the doctor killing the deputy and wearing Michael's mask. Overall, it was a great slasher movie and a worthy sequel to the OG Halloween.
Michael's such a savage he killed the boy in the beginning but in Halloween 1978, when he grabbed the boy he left him harmless....(maybe because he knew the boy was evil already since he was bullying the other boy)
I love 15:52. John immediately thought of The Dark Knight Rises and wanted to say the line so bad. I thought of the same exact thing and I'm so happy they said it haha
I thought Laurie made it easy for Michael to get in the house because she wanted him there because it was "a trap". So that explains why she didnt board all windows, left the remote on the counter (even though he ended up just ripping the whole damn island off), etc. I also dont think that the doctor just one day decided to start killing and help Michael. He seemed like he was obsessed with his patient and wanted to see him in full form and hopefully TALK, like he clearly stated, when he saw Laurie. While I didnt care for the twist either, I dont think it was quite as random as you made it out to be. And what was up with the asshole boyfriend not dying? The second he appeared on screen I said out loud "Oh this guy is dead." But then after trying to make him the most unlikable characters in the film, he is never seen again, weird. Also, Black Sheriff disappears randomly as well after being a pretty big part in the first couple murder investigations.
I loved this movie . I usually hate these types of super mainstream horror movies with comedy strung out in between but if you watch the original and then this film it works . This movie felt fresh . Micheal Myers is almost like a PTSD victim but also obviously a psychopath. He is constantly driven to recreating the night he killed his sister . I’ll have to disagree with James wan directing this . In my opinion James wan has lost his touch . They kept the super natural aspect of his character based in reality but also that he is sorta invincible. After seeing slender man , the nun and other shitty horror releases except for “Hereditary “ have been awful . This movie is great . I really believe you are being too critical lately with reviews. I understand seeing so many films you have a higher standard to what makes a great movie . I do the same thing , it takes a lot to impress me but this movie is a good slasher with great kills and a good expansion on the lore without being too campy .
I agree that this was a decent movie - but James Wan lost his touch, c'mon man - he's still got it and he didn't make all the shitty spin offs we're seeing at the moment.
After seeing it a second time I agree, but it's a damn good entertainment horror film. Takes you on a ride Plus this whole movie is blumhouse meets first Halloween so I don't know why thought it would be something else
I've noticed Chris gets fixated and hung up on things and allows them to ruin movies for him. I think a lot of it has to do with expectations of what a certain movie should be and being frustrated when those expectations aren't met. When I came to the doctor twist, having watched Chris' spoiler-free, I was surprised that he was that bothered by it. Yes, it was largely a plot device to get Michael to Laurie, but thematically it was interesting. Throughout the film, there's a theme of trying to understand the unknown and the lengths at which you're willing to go to do so. This was established with the journalists. The doctor is clearly obsessed with understanding Michael's mindset. It is why he let the journalists show Michael the mask. He wants to hear him speak. When the turn happens with his character, it didn't seem out of left field and felt like an extension of previously established themes. It also reveals his arrogance that he thought he could control, reason with or understand Michael.
colby s: and the cops got osama bin ladin that night[1979] but they let him go in 2001. ps that's sarcasm for starwars gaming...cuz he's clueless[definition of sw fan]
I saw this a couple of days ago with a cinema full of teens, they were absolutely mesmerized by this film. The comedic relief was scarce and not all of it was bad as you make it sound. I think it was a well done film, beautiful lighting, the pace, edition was spot on! Jamie Lee reprising her role, the weaksst link maybe the granddaughter but nevertheless it was a fun B movie, that's what Halloween is, even the original is a little B movie that got huge attentio in its time. I give it an A-.
Now I want see a collage of scenes of Michael stalking his prey with Liam Neeson’s lines, “Theatricality and deception are powerful agents. You must become more than just a man in the mind of your opponent.”
Complains about scenes being too similar to the original and yet praises the shitty Disney Star Wars films even though they're copy paste remakes of the old films. Just saying.
I love John and Chris together, even when I disagree with them. Film is subjective. Your opinion can't be right or wrong. Their opinion can't be right or wrong. I hear people acting like their opinion is right and their opinion is wrong, that's your belief leading to arrogance.
Um no the bathroom scene is not like H20 at all. In H20 he goes into the bathroom and takes the ladies purse. That's it. In the new one, he stalks the reporter and then kills her. The only similarity is the bathroom. It's not "exactly" the same scene.
Jamiil_2_Trill wasn't the bathroom in the Halloween Zombie!
@@marcohinojosa1191 yes
Denise Walker I believe it was homage to both. What happened to the woman in this film is what we expected to happen in H20
RAAAAAAAAAAGEREE
Also an homage to Halloween The Curse Of MM, when he’s stalking Jamie Lloyd in the beginning, he goes in the bathroom and opens each stall like that. I thought it was a pretty suspenseful scene, myself, but I just wish they hadn’t shown all of it in the trailer lol.
Who else loves it when John and Chris collaborate together? Please make more like these. I love this style!
Me too.
Luke Benson They are missing the whole point..It's about the music, this film freaked me out.
@@capnphuktard5445 The film isn't about the music. What did you just watch, or should I say, hear.
I think flick pick is like a dumbass high school jock.
Luke Benson not really
Is anyone else wondering why they failed to mention how they CAUGHT him the first time? How were they able to actually lock Michael up?
Harris Highlights In one of the trailers, the journalist says " after taking 6 bullets, he passed out in an alley and they captured him "
Not exactly what it was said but something similar
They maybe should have mentioned it in the movie though
I like how they keep locking him up like he's a normal human being. The guy can take more bullets than a kelvar vest, and yet they still treat him so flippantly. I'm surprised he was never experimented on lol.
There's a scene or two referencing that the sheriff in this movie was the one that picked him up. They don't dwell on it much. I noticed more plot the 2nd and 3rd time. I (for one) enjoyed it a lot. haha
@Brian Jones
I literally asked the same question
I didn’t trust the Dr. from the moment I saw the trailer. Pretty obvious.
The movie was shit end of
I disagree, I enjoyed this movie. Not without its flaws, obviously, but it's filmed extremely well and it is suspenseful at times. Michael Myers is intimidating and Curtis is amazing.
@Nigel Nelson you mean Perris Island?
@Niger Nelly But did you notice, the CCTV monitors and computers in the asylum we're grossly outdated for 2018. Plus the kid with the rifle had a flip phone.
Yeah micheal Myers and Laurie strode were barely in the movie and the rest were filled with stupid characters that didn’t need to be there. You could say that the original Halloween had stupid characters but that was made 40 years ago and this movie should’ve just been about Laurie
agree
Jonah Wood it would’ve been boring if it was literally just Laurie the whole time
14:02 Dude, the soundtrack was awesome. _The Shape Hunts Allyson_ alone is a feast for the ears.
Admiral Benson one of my favorite tracks. The soundtrack rocks
Still the original had a better score
@Yeeyee Bubba Are you saying Ray's Goodbye was better than The Shape Stalks and the new MAIN theme was better than the original?
The theme
Best one on the soundtrack is prison montage
He didn't kill the lady in the bathroom in h20 he just took her purse to get her car keys
He's Joe Grizzly Beeatch!!
Babywight
Exactly right.
@@TheBraunMachine2011 he is the fast food approach to movie analysis.
Maggots
My boy Michael got superhuman strength, stomp so hard crushed his skull.
Exactly
And it was hilarious 😂
Survived 6 bullets in chest like it was nothing
Michael Myers is like 70 years old. At that age he should barely be able to lift his foot that high without complaining about back problems.
TheFenerbahceSK He was 21 in the original movie which came out/takes place in 1978 so let’s do the math.
2018 - 1978 = 40 years
21 + 40 = 61 years

That kid Julian literally stole the show imo, my whole theater was laughing their ass off during his scenes.
Yup! Liked when he told the nannies boyfriend don't go upstairs you gonna die while running out the house. Anyone could relate to being that kid in that situation.
I loved Julian. He was killing me when he told Vicky to send Dave up first.
The only problem with the laughs then kid provided was it took away from the shock and horror of the scene where Michael attacks Vicki. They could have pulled back a bit on the comedy there.
Kids like "Nope!".
@@LoganWood121 This is why I feel 70s horror is far superior to 80s (and beyond) horror. 70s horror did not have comic relief or goofy one-liners.
"obvious to me from the beginning of the movie that he weirdly empathized with Michael"
I'm not even so sure that he "empathized" with him so much as he wanted to *understand* him completely.
I mean, i don't think they understand the doctor. Yes he have long year training, but insanity doesn't care about that type of thing.
I agree with howthe doctor became this fixated on him and how it could have been better represented on film. Also, yes it was a pretty clear message that there is no understanding how Michael ticks. There is nothing there to discover. He likes to kill.
Still. They ripped off Halloween curse of Michael Myers.
All I could think about in the motorcycle scene was how much noise he was making so late at night in a suburban neighbourhood!

@@thefenerbahcesk4156 baby killing is too much

rooster73 2 such as?
Same.
I honestly don’t know why carpenter didn’t just direct it himself
@@TheTillmanSneakerReview I would be down for that.

The doctor didnt bother me as much. I kinda saw it as
Lol maybe I should read your whole comment before I respond but you lost me at "doctor didn't bother me as much" 😂
I just watched the film.
I saw it kind of like how Michael affects people. He affected Laurie’s life and the doctors life
I agree, I think the explanation for the doctors behavior is that he became obsessed with Michael over the years and lost his mind. Nothing mattered anymore but Michael and if I'm correct with him being taken to the new facility he would no longer be his patient. The scene with the other mental patients and the mask was stupid.
Am I the only one who just couldn't stop laughing when the doctor put on the Michael Myers mask?
No your not the only one 🤣🤣🤣
God that was so fucking dumb 🤣
I honestly almost stopped watching the movie at that point. It was god awful
“Make room for my patient” lmao
Yeah that was goofy but a good twist though
I loved it personally.

When I saw this movie, I didn't realize that they were ignoring all the other movies so I was really confused. Once I ignored all the stuff after the 2nd Halloween, I enjoyed it
Yeah my mom was confused about that
Easily this is my favorite Halloween sequel because you can tell the people who made this movie cared about the series and characters. Also there is a reference or call back to every Halloween movie in this one, that’s where the Halloween 2 call back was from.
BootherJr I wouldn’t call this movie trash. This movie kept a pace while Halloween 2 heavily drags in certain places but to each their own
stop it
I like both Halloween 2 and Halloween 2018, Halloween 2018 is above Halloween 2 for me.
This Halloween is above H20
This movie erased the other sequels. But yea it makes nods to all of them. Makes sense.
I respect your opinion, but I fucking loved this movie. Even the weird doctor twist. I haven't seen any of the other Halloweens outside of the original in a very long time. So maybe that's why i enjoyed it more than you did. I don't even remember a lot of these scenes from other movies your talking about.
if you remembered the other sequels it would only make you appreciate this movie even more
The twist with the doctor is from part 5 and 6 he's the man in black
Henry Chavez exactly. The crazy doctor was a homage to Dr. Winn
Also I think the sandwich cops, is a homage to the goofy cops from part 5 they even had there own goofy sound effects while they were introduced.
I really enjoyed this movie. Jamie Lee Curtis was great
Worst film in the Halloween franchise!

@UCXM2V50e0MR0lH0XXvut8-g Halloween resurrection enters the chat.
I strongly agree with you
The ending was a rip off of, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, with Corey Feldman
Chris. Please. Do the Hilariocity of Vampire's Kiss already. It's time.
*YES*
Season of the Witch is one of the best sequels in the series. It’s a shame it doesn’t get the recognition it deserves.
I miss seeing videos with you two. You’re energy is so fun together. I hope a collab can happen again soon

This is a sequel to the first film. There was no family relation in that.
@@leroymelancholy3825
Chris is obviously stupid....that scene was basically there to explain to the casual audience that maybe still confused about the brother sister angle.
People who know the films know that they are not related. The sibling storyline was first introduced in part 2.
Not to mention that doctor isn't the first person to go nutty after hanging out around Michael.
AJF Studios I’m with you. He wanted a taste of what it felt like to be Michael, and he got it.
I thought the same, but they really didn't convey it right
Yes this is absolutely what the doctor represented.
Not to mention its a better sequel than any of the others

I love the theatricality and deception joke. Can't get enough of John Flickinger as Bane.
Never Too Old Gaming he had a dope hat lol
Yea that hat was on point. but the rest of him was rather pointless BADUMCHHHHH.

When you have a dream that your teeth are falling out it means you feel like your life is out of control.
@Robin Stiff Simply means you're happy.
Agreed

Totally agree.
Wish I could see these two guys together again
Great review, completely agreed with everything
Michael's such a savage he killed the boy in the beginning but in Halloween 1978, when he grabbed the boy he left him harmless....(maybe because he knew the boy was evil already since he was bullying the other boy)
Hmmmm🤔...pretty interesting.
I love 15:52. John immediately thought of The Dark Knight Rises and wanted to say the line so bad. I thought of the same exact thing and I'm so happy they said it haha
I liked it alot. It was well paced, well shot, and soundtrack was amazing. Just should have deleted the doctor all together.
yes agreed
6:56 this point that John makes is exactly what made Nightcrawler so great
After seeing it a second time I agree, but it's a damn good entertainment horror film. Takes you on a ride
Plus this whole movie is blumhouse meets first Halloween so I don't know why thought it would be something else
My favorite Halloween movie. Loved it! Also love when you guys collaborate on reviews good work!
Very well said man, completely agree!
I agree too. Chris overreacted.
Season of the Witch was awesome, bruh
I always said it was underrated. It has one of the most contained, badass styles of any film. Totally original.
I'm confused as to how the cops even got Michael. He escaped at the end of the first one!
This is the real question
They retconned the ending of the first one and pretend it didn't happen.
Because of Dr. Loomis. Wait, nevermind, this movie completely ignored any connection to him which killed it.
@Colby S Oh thanks for clearing that up.
colby s: and the cops got osama bin ladin that night[1979] but they let him go in 2001. ps that's sarcasm for starwars gaming...cuz he's clueless[definition of sw fan]
He didn't kill the woman in H20. He just stole her car.
Yea he slobs all over Force Awakens.
I love John and Chris together, even when I disagree with them. Film is subjective. Your opinion can't be right or wrong. Their opinion can't be right or wrong. I hear people acting like their opinion is right and their opinion is wrong, that's your belief leading to arrogance.
